Yummy! This place came up many times when we searching for "must-visit" locations during a recent Ludington camping trip. Advice we were given, and I would confirm: 1) call ahead and don't be frustrated if the line is busy 2) it may take quite awhile for your pizza to be ready, but that's ok, just plan ahead 3) you can take pizza and drive to the beach or pull off alongside the road to look at the beach/sunset 4) a small is plenty for two people to share :) Enjoy! If I could leave 1 star I would. Pizza took almost two hours to arrive. Waitress was extremely kind, the manager was not. I tried to have a simple conversation and she was off putting and extremely rude. We also witnessed her treating the wait staff poorly. The only hope for this spot is new management. We had a pizza delivered last night to the condo we're staying at about ten minutes away from Chuck Wagon. I found Chuck Wagon doing a Yelp! search, and based on the reviews, we decided to give it a go. The delivery man brought our pizza in 30 minutes, and pulled up curbside so we could run down to the first floor and meet him. He was friendly, and funny. As for the pizza, we both agreed this might be the best pizza we've ever had. Loved the thinner but not too thin crust and homemade sauce. And there was an abundance of toppings! See the photo. We ordered artichoke, black olives, onion, green pepper, and mushroom. We opened up the wrapping and couldn't believe how much toppings were on the pizza. Quite a bit. When in Rome...(turn on Google Maps!) This is a real local fav (not sure I saw another tourist in the place!) that is easily missed if you're buzzing up Lakeshore Drive like a wide-eyed tourist (guilty!) and not paying attention. The sign by the road says "Open at 4" or something like that so it's not instantly apparent that the associated building is actually "Chuck Wagon" (or at least, that was my lame excuse to the spouse). Hence, pay close attention once you head North from Ludington beach. Once inside, things are buzzing. The locals are hungry and the incredibly charming family team that runs this place is cranking out pies faster than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest. Don't worry, you'll receive excellent service here because it's a small place, you're a tourist and you stick out like a sore thumb. The pies are Michigan big here. Huge, actually. If you're from out of town (and let's face it, you are), you need to know up front that this is not fancy razor-thin burnt crust pizza from a 900-degree wood-fired artisan oven imported from Italy. Nope, this is just the owner and his family serving up some great (NY style-ish) pizza with, um, crazy generous toppings. When I say crazy generous toppings that means if you request "hamburger" on your pizza you just might get 1 pound of the stuff (not kidding) so pick your toppings carefully. (There's no shame in asking for a small amount of hamburger, but they aim to please so it may get reduced to just 3/4 pound). After we ate a piece or two, the owner caught my attention while he was glued to the oven and flashed me the "was it OK?" sign with one hand while balancing the pizza peel with his other hand. Popped in here as the sky opened up, and the place was mobbed. One taste of the toasted veggie sandwich explained why. Came back a couple of days later with the family, and the pizza was on point perfect. You can see the crusts being rolled out from the dining room. Purchased 2 16" two topping Pizzas, a small cheese pizza and breadstix for 62$. Pizzas were like thin crust (not between medium and thick as described on website). All Pizzas were overcooked. Entire top of cheese pizza was brown and crunchy instead of gooey cheese, edge of crust on all 3 Pizzas were black. Ingredients were plentiful BUT only covered about 6" diameter of the 16" pizza. I tried to complain in store at time of pick up but the cook just said "those are not burnt, look at the bottom". Okay, bottoms were not burnt but Cheese was so dark it was hard to the touch and edges were black. I was literally told " those are how all our Pizzas are", however photos of same pizza on here indicate otherwise. They offered to make a new Cheese one but I would have to wait an hour. The cook (who was also the manager) just shook his head and chuckled. Needless to say customer service if you have a complaint is non existent. My daughter ate 1 bite of her pizza. I ate 1 piece, my husband who will eat anything ate 2 slices and said I should go get our money back. Would strongly advise to make sure you enjoy a thin crust with dark overcooked Cheese, black edges and plentiful topping which may or may not be evenly spread on your pizza (one we had was, the other wasnt). Waste of 62$ as all the rest went in the trash. Not sure what the left the biggest bitter taste in my mouth - the poor customer service or the black edges of the pizza. read more

Don't go through Ludington without stopping here to eat or take it to go. This is one of the best pizza places in the country in my experience, the only complaint is how small the restaurant itself is. The servers have always been courteous when I've been able to get a seat, but sadly the last time I had to order it to go. They stack the toppings almost an inch high even on the meat pizzas, and in 15 years of coming here on vacation I've never had a bad pizza or bad service. Rick cooks up the best pizzas in the state - and my favorite from around the world. If you love toppings, just go ahead and grab a Super Pizza and just enjoy the heck out of the piled high mushrooms, ham, sausage, pepperoni, and cheesy goodness. Also highly recommend picking up a family order of Rix Stix. You cannot stop eating them once you start. Pizza is very greasy, totally not a pizza you can put in fridge and eat next day with all the grease. Bottom crust is so thin that when you pick it up it flops and toppings practically fall off. Pizza is hard to mess up, but people still do. This place serves a quality pie. Lots of toppings, good ingredients, and cooked correctly. If you want the same pizza every time then you go to a chain restaurant. If you want to try one that is a little different then you go to places like this. You won't be disappointed, but here are my tips. Go in early, order to go, then go downtown to the nice little market on the main drag. Pick up what ever else you want to go with it. Then go back and pick up. It will take at least 45 min if they are busy, and they will most likely be busy. Then find a shady spot in the park and enjoy. Smaller pies are sent out in a bag, so if you want leftovers have a container. If yours comes in a bag do not bet on the thin cardboard to keep it safe, use two hands. If you drop it you will be waiting a long time for a remake. read more

Camping on a rainy day we decided to try them out--pre-COVID---walked in (not a lot of seating) but we were able to get seated pretty quickly. Waitstaff was friendly, told us pizza would take a little longer than normal as they were backed up on orders...and gave our two girls some pizza dough to play with while we waited, which was so nice. They both loved playing with the dough and being able to watch the chefs from our table do their work. They'd often try and mimic them too. Food came and the amount of toppings is outrageous. If you love toppings this is your go-to place. Crust is cooked perfectly. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the sauce but I'm picky. Everyone else loved it. Definitely suggest if you're getting tired of hot dogs and tonka pies...you won't regret it. read more
