I had a very disappointing experience at the Chuck E. Cheese on Union Deposit. The place was dirty, and about half of the machines were not working. What made things worse was the treatment I received from a Caucasian male employee (looked about 40-50 years old). I stood in front of him, less than 100 feet away, and he never once looked up to greet me or even say, "I'll be right with you." His dismissive attitude felt racially biased and unprofessional. Also chuckee was nowhere to be found. The only positive part of my visit was the staff at the front and counter. The young lady working the door was extremely kind and welcoming, and the girl behind the counter with braids was just as sweet and helpful. His response was that it wasn't his problem and that I had to wait, while two other employees who had already seen me come back for the third time started laughing. This happened in the kitchen area. I took my six-year-old and three-year-old here and they absolutely loved it. It is really overpriced but they offer a pass for the summer. I would not pay their normal prices. The summer pass is $50 - anyone in your family can play 40 games a day, every day for two months. Since we got the pass, we have really enjoyed going there. We decided to try the pizza yesterday. It was comparable to a low quality pizza chain except it was quite expensive at $15.50 for a medium. It was enough for me and my two kids while we were there but when we got home we were still hungry an hour later. The crust was really thin and not very flavorful. The cheese was really good though and the pizza was nice and hot. I will say it is nice to have the convenience of eating pizza while your kids run around and play games. Today my family and I had the time of our lives . But for me it definitely took me back to when I was a kid . We went despite the reviews seen online to visit Chuck E Cheese out here as we are New Yorkers originally. An Employee named Adam made our day the most smooth sailing and kept smiles on my siblings faces . He was patient and kind. He laughed and joked with the kids. He even helped me make my decision on whether or not I wanted to do my daughters second birthday there which I definitely will be doing . I have to review Chuck E Cheese because I have been there more than I would have liked to be due to my children. Now this Chuck E Cheese is known for some fights breaking out in the past, but I have never seen this kind of thing. Though I am not normally there later at night on a weekend. The times I've been were random weeknights or late morning/early afternoon for a party. I think the later you get on a weekend day the worse it gets in there, so I wouldn't go then. The cleanliness isn't TOO too bad. I am a germaphobe so I can't even believe I allow my kids in here. But only one time did I go where it smelled questionable and the other times I've gone, not bad. Plus they have sanitizer throughout and I always bring my own too. I also don't let the kids climb up in those tubes. ICK I don't even want to know what's growing in there. The pizza is deliciously crappy and they have other menu options like wings and salad if you want something other than pizza. I wish they had beer. I know some do now and that has created quite the controversy. But frankly I don't think there's anything wrong with having a beer while the kids play. The games there are cheap and the prizes are too but at least you can get something fun for the kids for not a lot of money and if they need more tickets for a different prize you can buy them for .01 each. Alright, well I figured since our very own Chuck E. Cheese has been making headlines across the state and the region, now is the time to review it. Where a kid can be a kid. Remember that slogan? It was sort of true when I went to Chuck E. Cheese as a kid in Maryland. They have pizza, all sorts of fun rides, games, video games, prizes and a mechanical theater with Chuck E. and his friends. Back then, while it was still a little on the "ghetto" side, at least you could go there and not feel like you had to watch your back. Well, Chuck E. Cheese has grown up. And they didn't turn out to be for the better. This location in Union Deposit is right next to the Weis and Starbucks shopping center. You would think the clientle would be decent. It's not. The place is perfect to run into your baby mama's cousin that slept with your step-brother. And better yet, after you duke it out in the middle of the restaurant, you can really determine who won by playing a round of skee-ball. Sound like a good time? Well, my daughter is about the age that she would enjoy the rides so we took her here for her birthday and she did enjoy it, but we didn't stay long. We had random kids coming up to us asking to pay for their rides and games and assuming it was perfectly normal to not only ask a stranger to do that, but then tell us they wanted to go to another ride and we needed to come to pay for it. Ahhh.... a kid's paradise. Anyway, we didn't eat here but they have pizza and such(thank god they don't serve beer anymore like they did at the one when I was a kid) and now their tickets which you get for doing well in a game, are counted electronically!!! So cool. Best part of the whole thing was that every family entering the place has to be stamped with the same black light stamp so that when you exit they can check that you are leaving with the same children, and not someone else's. I am biased because I am an adult. To sum it up: Loud Loud Loud. HOWEVER, from the perspective of a 2 and a 6 year old... FANTASTIC!!! --------------------------------------- As a non-loud lover (except when it's heavy metal music playing) there are some specific Chuck 'e Cheese (CC) phases I distinguish: There is the pre-CC state, where the kids are happy, excited about the prospect of playing games and subsequent tickets, then there's the at-CC state, where the kids become hyper from all the external stimuli, ball tossing, computerized games, etc. Then come the two cry-phases. The first one when you tell the kids it's time to leave (personally, my favorite moment), but they can somewhat be consoled by the fact that they still get to pick their prize! Which brings me to the second cry episode after the kids find out that they cannot have the 5000 point prize but will have to (likely) settle for a 200 point prize, e.g. a pencil, due to not having acquired 5000 points! PLUS the kids come to find out that you were really serious about that leaving part also! No kid wants a pencil if there are TMNT play sets to be had but I am no going to fit the difference between 200 and 5000 points ($48.-) for a cheap toy... so, more crying as I am not successful in explaining this predicament to my kids. I am very hesitant about spending my time at this establishment; however they have done us well in streamlining our children's birthday parties in the past and it appears some what clean'ish and well maintained. I don't know. It ain't the best. But I'll always embrace that childhood love I had for CEC. No. This location is no where near as nice as some others I've been in. But it is what it is. It's located next to a Gabriel Brothers and a take-out chinese place for cripes sake! And you think it's going to be a non-ghetto, upscale establishment?? Come on. The employees could be nicer and do their jobs better. The place could be WAY cleaner (my main gripe since kids pick up germs and sickness so easily). The food could be MUCH better, especially seeing how much moolah you pop out. But that's what we see as adults. The kids don't see these things. They see an amazing ball pit, a mezmorizing electric band, video games, tickets, prizes, pizza, soda, cake, costumed characters, et al. They're ecstatic on the drive over, forget to look both ways when crossing the street to reach the front door, and always have fun. They leave smiling. Ghetto and dirty... the only cool thing worth mentioning is that they still have the old school motorized band on the stage like they did when I was a kid. My kid touched the counter under where sodas are filled and her hand was brown and slimy/sticky. Ew, ew, ew. Floor was dirty. We witnessed an unsupervised kid (by kid, I mean probably 10-11 years old) drinking straight from the soda fountain with his mouth (no cup)... the other customers were rowdy and were dropping trash all over the place. When Chuck E. comes out in costume and throws tickets all over the floor for the kids to pick up after dancing with them, those little animals were shoving smaller kids out of the way and grabbing tickets out of other kids hands with no reprimand. Their trashy parents were down picking up tickets, too. Really? A quarter to play each machine is reasonable but wont be going back due to the trashy area/customers. I'm glad there's police presence there, but it makes me nervous that there's a need for police presence. I wish my kids could experience the clean and fun Chuck E. It was cool when I was a wee lad, but now I'm scared to death of the place. I remember when I would go to practice my Mario Bros. skills, but now it's more of an arena for practicing hand-to-hand combat skills. They don't serve beer anymore, which I just don't really understand. Seriously, how much worse could it be? At least if someone takes a swing at you, they might miss if they've had six-pack or so. I only gave this place four stars because the amateur level of fighting is more sad than entertaining. I completely forgot about the Animatronics because watching the people is so much more enthralling. Once they start having Muay Thai Friday's, they get the fifth star. 3/6/16 at 11am: This was our first time taking our 4 year old (and 10 month old) to Chuck E. Cheese. We'll never go back to this location, and maybe not even to another Chuck E. Cheese. There are places that do it WAY better (Hoopla's, for instance, and they are almost an hour closer to our house), but my son kept seeing the commercial for Chuck E. Cheese and we decided to go. This location was filthy everywhere. Very sticky at the soda fountain. Garbage was half or totally filled even though we got there when they opened. When we arrived we weren't greeted and had to ask how the whole thing worked. We ordered our food and they didn't have French fries, which were still on the menu, but had tater tots instead. We had to ask 3 separate times for our son's apple juice to be delivered. The staff did not care at all that kids were there trying to have fun and this is not the cheapest form of entertainment. Each prize my child picked from the display case wasn't available and when we pointed out how frustrating this was we were met with a shrug from the employee in charge of the prizes. At one point the costumed mouse came out for the 'show' and we were the only table in a large section and we were completely ignored. The employee had to work hard to totally ignore us. My poor kid didn't get it. The employees don't have to be fake happy but for god's sake this is a place for a kid to have fun and feel good. IF we ever go to Chuck E.
