Chrome gets 2 stars instead of 1 only because they offer some genuinely cool stuff for the Lubbock area. Honestly, some of what they sell feels more LA-level than West Texas. But that's where the positives end. I've visited the store three times and made purchases on two of those visits. Every single time, I was treated like a second-class citizen. The staff is rude, follows customers around as if they're going to steal something, and responds curtly when you ask questions. If you're reading this review and wondering whether the negative reviews without photos are accurate -- they absolutely are. As an Elite Yelper, I usually know how to filter out unreliable reviews, especially from accounts with no photos or very little activity. But in this case, reviewers like Alex R., Rudy M., Crystal J., Michelle S., Preslie S., Lauren G., and Candice B. are telling the truth. I won't shop here again. I can find the same cute items online or in Dallas, Austin, or LA without having to deal with the attitude. Um...their main doors are broken. The main entrance is roped off to greet you and count you as a customer. We had to wait to even enter the store or be allowed to walk it. It was literally roped off. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen or heard of with a shopping experience. Their stuff has always been overpriced and this just proves to me that it's not worth it. Won't be going back. This place is sketchy AF. I ordered a wireless leather charger in Cognac online. They notified me that they no longer have that color and offered to swap for black. Ok, fine. When I received and opened the item, the packaging was thrashed with components missing, and the item had markings on it and was clearly used. When I contacted Chrome, they feigned ignorance and offered 15% off. No thank you, this needed to be returned. They wanted to charge me for return shipping when they did not send the new item I ordered, but a used one. ThIs place had just opened up when I was in college. I remember thinking how ridiculously expensive it was. Flash forward almost 15 years later and I realize the place wasn't expensive, I was just a cheap college student. Lol I came in here while in town for a game. The store is HUGE now. They have expanded so much. I love that they have a mix of items. It's not just a clothing store. They have shoes, hats, home decor items, perfumes, makeup, Christmas decor, children's toys, etc. It's really a fun store to walk around. You honestly could get yourself into trouble. I wanted almost everything in the store! The girls that work there were incredibly kind and super helpful. I never felt like they were being obnoxious by following me around like in some stores. They asked if I needed help and left me be when I said I didn't. I eventually went to find one of them when I did need help. I appreciate sales employees that don't make you feel rushed or unwelcome. I would definitely recommend stopping in if in the area! read more

Was very disappointed in my experience here today. When trying to make a return, and was denied, the woman helping me immediately gave me an attitude. Following that, when I was still browsing the store, her and all of her employees decided to eyeball me while I shopped around assuming I was shoplifting. As I asked for my return and receipt back, the woman helping me just handed it to me and stormed off, without saying a word. I've shopped with Chrome since 2016 and have never had an experience like this. I've personally spent quite a bit of money and am a regular customer, so it is sad to say that I will not ever purchase anything from this store again. And considering the fact that I work in a leadership role in a large retail business, I know for a fact that customer service is what makes and brakes a company's image. read more

First they have to let you into their store as if you are maybe not worthy to come in. Then they follow you around the store as if you are going to steal something from their store. Chrome is the coolest shopping spot in the LBK, hands down. Unfortunately, unless you have an eating disorder, you won't find clothes in here that fit you. When I first found this spot the in-laws bought me $100 worth of gift cards for Christmas / Birthday (yes, my bday is the day after Christmas), and I was so stoked. Then I realized that they didn't have above a size 29 in pants, and hardly any of the shirts would even PRETEND to fit my rack. Oh well, I got some really cool jewelry, and bought my best friend a dress for her birthday... such is life! read more

One of the employees was mean and sassy with the customers. She had blonde hair tons of makeup and was wearing a N necklace. I was talking to my family about it and all said she had a mean demeanor and was sassy to them for asking simple questions. I find the bad reviews of this awesome boutique laughable. If you think Tom's are fashionable and you're looking for a cheap to-go top, this is not the place for you. They carry an enormous range of clothing, jewelry and accessories in all price ranges. Most definitely the best brands in Lubbock. The staff is extremely helpful and you can tell that they actually have a passion for fashion. Every business has different return policies and rules, If you can't read what theirs is then that's your problem. People in Lubbock can be a little behind in fashion trends and Chrome is always fashion forward and pushing boundaries. Love this place and I never leave empty handed. THE RUDEST STAFF EVER. I will go into this store a few times a year to give it another try but every single time I walk out feeling like a second class citizen. The girls follow you everywhere as if your a criminal and just overall have snooty/rude mannerisms. This particular time though, me and my sister were inside shopping with no one else in the store and one of the girls came up to each of us asking if we would pull up our mask above our nose. On the way to the airport my car had to hang a hard right so I could see what folks were yakking about. For Lubbck, a gem of a place mostly in location. The place has history and one of the reasons I wanted to see the layout of the store. Adequate selections, somewhat like the boutiques along Guadalupe in Austin but way pricier. I agree with another yelper the prices insane and quality not. Fashion is not about the rag on your back it is how you rock the rag. Some staff were snotty, some were kind. For a petite frame selection was good. The different jewelry designers comparable to other boutiques but no wow factor. Pick up a gift for a friend, or a home decor this place does ok. I encountered this store visiting an old roommate. My first impression was of how beautifully the store was merchandised and the friendly staff. There is nothing stuffy or overly upscale about it, just a nice open store in the mode of an Urban Outfitters. Unfortunately for my wallet they were having a ridiculous summer sale and with a store as big as this in a little town like Lubbock, I was thrilled at how much I scored. So happy that I could come here and casually browse so many fabulous items in my size at more than 1/2 off the retail price. (I mean, Free people bralettes for only $10...whaaaat?!) I was shocked--I live in New York City and if this store with this sale existed here it would be picked dry to the bone within a 30 seconds of the sale starting. For those of you who are wondering, the clothing at full price is not "marked-up," it is aligned with the recommended retail prices for those brands. As another reviewer said, this fantastic boutique is not for the casual mall troller looking for a fast fashion find, but someone looking to invest in a higher quality piece. They have a large selection of youthful, on-trend product. Some of the brands they carry: Irregular Choice, J-Brand, entire room of Free People, minkpink, Ella Moss, Seven for All Mankind, Jeffrey Campbell, Steve Madden...the list goes on. They also had 1/2 off Nars when I was there, but it looks like they're phasing it out. Only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because, all told, I do think that if they weren't having this huge sale they might do well with a few more items (like accessories or tops) at a slightly lower price range full price to hook in a wider range of Lubbock shoppers. I can't afford to shop here full price and probably wouldn't. But as I understand it the Godbold is a kind of classy place so it probably fits the clientele. I love that they carry fragrance and wish they would expand on that. Also I tend to agree with another reviewer that designer jeans and shoes (and I'd add accessories) are their strongest suit, I didn't find a lot of their other product nearly as much of a must-buy. For Lubbock, this store is great. They have an amazing shoe section, and a good selection of designer denim. However, the clothes just arent good. I've never found anything there I liked besides jeans and shoes. The staff can also be kind of pushy and hover around you while you shop, which i find annoying. It's not everyday I come across something so amazing! Yesterday I found out my favorite perfume of 20 years is out of stock...everywhere! They are having a shortage, and aren't sure when they will be making more. Could be weeks, or months, or even years! Now if you are one of those people, you understand the heartache I felt. When I found out there was a "Stella" drought ( perfume is Stella McCartney) I started googling to see if I could find a bottle anywhere. I would've sold a kidney to get a bottle. That's how I stumbled across Chrome, and they said they had it in stock. I called immediately, and they in fact had 1 bottle left. Not only did an ANGEL named Kennedy listen to my sob story, and sympathize with me, but she helped me get that last bottle AND then she even sold me the floor tester with what was left!! Kennedy went above and beyond to help me, and the owner went as far as to call her distributors to see if she could find me answers as to when and if they would be getting anymore product! I live in Utah, but if I'm ever in Texas I will definitely be stopping by this store to give them my business. Until then I will be shopping on their website. The buyer has unique taste and a keen eye for apparel, shoes, glasses and novelties (for men and women!) serving a diverse age group. I always thought Chrome was cool because it was located in Lubbock but honestly this "high fashion clothing shop" would not suite any other city. First off, they mark everything up 3x actually cost...I know this because some of the other clothing shops near them sold the same brands for less. Second, for such "high fashion" their clothes look cheap. Sure I'll buy a dress for $200+ if it's tailored and made well, but in Chrome you could buy a dress and drop 200 on it and go pick up something better from Forever 21 for $20. I haven't even mentioned the customer service but the dress I was looking at buying had a mismatched patten that was clearly obvious (the bottom pattern of the dress was off by at least 2 in.) and when I mentioned it their response was,"well it's not like it's a high fashion designer dress so you can expect that "...oh excuse me for thinking a dress that I'm paying 200 for, designer or not, would be made right! Moving on to customer service....omg I couldn't even browse for 5 minutes without someone breathing down my neck telling me they were already pulling items for me to try on. I'm sorry but looking for a dress for a wedding should not entail a girl bringing me a multi color sequence jacket. Wedding 101 you don't wear sequence to a wedding, get with fashion. Anyways, my experience involved me actually leaving because I couldn't handle how pushy and annoying the sales staff was. I should have listened to the BAD REVIEWS I read about this store. I was in town on a business trip and stopped in. The manager sold me a pair of jeans, and when I got home and showed by husband, he told me they looked really bad on me. When I was back in town on business 2 weeks later, I tried to return the jeans. The store would not process the return because it was past 7 days, and "it's stapled to the receipt." I explained nicely that I did not know the policy, that I was from out of town, that it was my first time shopping there. The manager Holly refused to even offer an in store credit or make a first time shopping with them exception. When I tried going above the manager, she was extremely rude to me and acted as a guard dog for the owner Lindsey. She constantly screened my calls, saying that the owner could not talk to me unless she knew who was calling and what this was about. Excuse me! I went by the store and called several times to reach Linday, but Holly would not let me through. I finally persistently called and reached Lindsey. Lindsey was equally rude saying, "If you wanted to return something to Nordstrom, you wouldn't get to speak to the owner." She obviosly does not know what she is talking about. (1) Nordstrom has a return policy that you can ALWAYS return items, (2) Nordstrom understand that the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS right, and (3) Does she really think her shitty little boutique in Lubbock, Texas comes anywhere close to Nordstrom? It was my first time shopping in their store. The policy was absolutely NOT explained to me. For the sake of good customer service, they should have made an exception this once and allowed me to return this $220 pair of jeans that I will never wear. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! RUDE MANAGERS AND OWNERS! I do not recommend this store! I predict if they keep running their business like this, they will go out of business soon, and I hope they do. read more
