I will definitely have him back for tuneups. And the price was very reasonable.

With the distance and the variability in quality between instruments, I wasn't sure how I could realistically try multiple pianos without driving all over Southern California. Fortunately, Kim's Piano made the process incredibly easy. They have a huge inventory of Yamaha pianos, and I worked with Steve Rivera, who was responsive, knowledgeable, and very fair throughout. He helped me narrow down several strong options over email before I made the trip to their Stanton warehouse. When I finally went in, I brought along a piano technician to evaluate the instrument I selected. He was also impressed with both the quality of the piano and the breadth of their inventory. I ended up purchasing a 1971 Yamaha U3 that plays and looks like new. I couldn't be happier with the quality, value, and overall experience. Steve was patient and helpful every step of the way. I highly recommend Kim's Piano to anyone looking for a high-quality instrument at a fair price, backed by excellent service.

If you are a serious musician, I do not recommend James…read more He quoted me $300 for a tuning, well above the roughly $180 local market rate I had been seeing. Given the neighborhood and the piano, the pricing felt opportunistic. I specifically requested a well temperament. He was unable to do it and did not appear familiar with the temperament systems I was referring to, so no tuning was performed. I literally sent him home with an article on temperament tuning to read. I also asked him to investigate a buzz. He removed the action, found nothing, and was unable to diagnose the problem. He then tried to charge me $200 for simply removing and reinstalling the action. We eventually settled on $120 for the 45 minutes he spent at my house. So, to summarize: no tuning, no diagnosis, and a $200 attempted charge for pulling an action. For someone with a serious instrument or specific musical requirements, I would look elsewhere.

He also was great about sending his availability. I booked a date then switched it and then switched it back. He was very accommodating and it was very easy to schedule via text. Next is that this man is a professional. He showed up early and with shoe covers. Whenever anyone shows up to my house with shoe covers, that is already a great first impression. Would it be awkward because there's a stranger in your house? What do you do? Do you talk to them or not? But Schrager was so cool that it felt like hanging out with a friend while he tuned our piano. He is amazing and no wonder he has so many 5 star reviews!
