As a female, I'm new to going to a barber. I had only been to a beautician and was quite nervous to go to a barber being a male environment. I must say, it wasn't what I expected and I was very comfortable there. It was a great experience and they did an excellent job. Being new to short hair, I got a real education about what I needed to know about short hair, something the beautician did not give me. I've only been to the Elkridge shop but I'm sure Columbia is equally nice. It's very clean and scheduling is very easy. It can be done online, my preferred way of doing anything. Probably the worst shop! Jeffrey cut my sons here and he didn't do a good job at all! His hair line was not straight and got irritated after his haircut. Jeffrey is nice but doesn't pay attention, you have to remind him to clean the clippers and talks a lot. read more

Sad that the owner is disrespectful to his own kind. I still tipped him $20 cause I felt bad for the man. Chris definitely messed up my hair cut on purpose. He spent 10 minutes on my cut. All his employees saw the way he treated me. I hope they realize the kinda person they are working for. So I paid Chris $60 for a 10 minute hair cut. The fact this man was talking about how other customers couldn't afford his $40 hair cut in front of me was just sad. Maybe he thought I couldn't afford it too, but I am very well off. Just moved down here. Although I appreciate the appointment service their website offers, I will not be returning. I asked for a LOW Fade, ended getting a high fade with a crooked ass shape-up. Its more disappointing after explaining what I wanted prior to the cut. Specifically asked to keep my handle bars low/long, he pushed my shit up and gave this whack ass C curve. I went to the Elkridge location as a walk-in about 2 weeks ago and waited a long time. One barber had to go pick up his son from daycare, the other folks had a ton of people come in for appointments and bumped me out the way even though I was there first waiting for them to arrive. The barbers just stared and didn't ask me if I was waiting for a chair. The owner didn't say anything until I finally stood up and wondered what was going on. He said someone would get to me soon. At that point, I was done and left. I found out that they just opened a new shop in Columbia and I figured since it was near where I needed to go, I'd give it a try. That turned my experience around. I saw Devin "Nephew" Hall and he had me in his chair in about 5 mins. after finishing up a costumer. He cut me a nice, even buzz cut with the crispy lines. I liked my fresh cut and he was quick without being sloppy or careless. The price wasn't bad either. For Devin alone and his good service, I would go back to the Columbia shop. Don't believe what anyone else says they are strictly friends leaving good reviews. I was absolutely set up and had my hair jacked up and lied to about the price. It originally was 25 and all of a sudden it went up to $40 that is entirely too much for a haircut and nobody should be paying that. very bad customer service, they even cut the back of my head open with their razor, and tried to say nothing about it like it didn't happen, and when I brought it up, they ignored me. a very weird vibe when you walk in the door, overall not a good place, avoid it. I had been going to the Asian barbershops in Columbia. While they were inexpensive and decent, they definitely operated in a "get-in-get-out" manner. Christopher's has a very relaxed, enjoy-yourself-while-you're-here feel. They take their time with your cut, making sure it all looks good before they release you back into the wild. I usually get mine done by either Rick, Kent, or DJ (the young guys towards the back). I've tried everyone there except Christopher and prefer those 3 gentlemen. Don't be afraid to try something different such as an undercut. Rick has a good handle on how to cut this style. The cuts are a little more expensive than the Asian barbershop, but Christopher's definitely stresses quality over quantity. There are televisions playing to keep the waiting patrons occupied. It's located next to a Domino's pizza and a frozen yogurt place so you have a spot to grab a bite before, during, and after. ;-) They take walk-ins but you can also reserve a appt with your barber of choice on their website. read more

I found this place while running errands in the Columbia area. I was definitely pleasantly surprised with my cut and I appreciated the fact that they had movies playing so customers don't get bored during their wait. The one downside though was that the owner was not aware of any check in deal through yelp. So that free shampoo offer after the cut is basically worthless. I have been going to Christopher's since they opened. The shop is always neat and clean. The shop sits within a mini type strip mall area. There is a place for pizza, coffee, ice cream, and spirits (to name a few), with ample parking. They have several television to keep my company while I wait. They have 3 other barbers available and the bathroom stays clean. He is very popular and he stays busy, however he has appointments available. He has never disappointed me, my sons and friends appreciated his technique. read more

Let me explain something, first of all I don't take the time to post nothing, especially not about a haircut. I needed to find a new barber because the lack of professionalism....so I decided to search for a new barber. I hate changing barbers, because they will easily jack up years of waves and the pattern. Man I walked in told them I need a good barber and there response was you in the right place. So I explained what I expected from the cut and what I don't want. Do not have high expectations, and they don't even greet you when you get there. I've been there twice. The first time Moc did cut my hair and trim my beard. Good service very polite but he doesn't know how to style and use the blow dryer. But still, I consider him good enough. The disaster is KENT!! All he did was talking to other coworkers while cutting my hair (this is on my second visit) and talk about topics that go back as he said to 3 years ago and paying more attention to the TV, forgetting what he needs to do with my hair and how I want my beard trimmed (I kept on reminding him) and still he managed to mess it up . On everything I know, I own and have seen-do not believe the post that Moc the barber has skills. Omg I was set up and jacked the hell up. Now don't get me wrong everyone in this shop are professional and courteous but I waked out damn near in tears by Moc. My fade had all types of patches above my ear. My hairline was gone. Like ran away gone..... I immediately had to go to another barbershop to fix what he did. They had to cut allllllllllllllllllllllll my hair off. This happened 3 Saturdays ago. The only reason I went was because my barber got sick and I was in a jam. I came on Yelp and saw people talking about Moc's skills. They lied! There was a teenage kid starring at me when I sat in Moc's chair like noooooo don't do it. It seemed like he was a usual or the son of the owner. I have been coming here for quite a while. My barber Jeff Hall typically takes great care of me. However the most recent visit (5/14/2019) I requested a 2 around with a temp and one inch off the top. I typically have long hair. After my haircut much of the hair from the top was gone. I said to him in a polite manner "Hey Jeff I usually comb my hair, I asked for only and inch off and now it's so short I can't comb it. His response was "oh I thought you wanted it like this I was wondering why it was heavy in the front." I replied and said yes it's heavy in the front because I like to comb it and style it. What bothered me most was not that he had made a mistake but when I paid for the haircut and gave him 5 dollar tip, it didn't seem that he was bothered by the mistake he had made. He didn't offer a free haircut or say "I messed up this haircuts on me." We aren't talking about a small mistake. I walked in being able to comb and style my hair to leaving without the ability to comb it because he cut it so short. It appeared that Jeff was busy carrying side conversations with invidious who walked in the shop and were not there to get their haircut but were there jus to chill. I didn't want to speak up there and then because I wasn't sure how he would take it considering it was a pretty bad mistake, and that a friend of the shop was there to chill (appeared to be a friend of his) & (I never want to tell someone in front of ppl their mistake-it can be embarrassing and I never liked it when ppl did to me.) So I decided to leave a review instead I thought since I had been coming there for sometime one: He would know to never cut my hair that short on top because I have never had it that short. And two: the common courtesy to maybe say this haircut is on me or I got u next time. Other then that got much love for the shop. I tried and tried and tried to like this place. Really. Now, I'm all about supporting black business but I can't if the service is just plain horrible. I've had my hair cut here several times only because theres no other place around here (I know of, anyway) to get a decent clip so I kept coming back. The shop itself is nice, well laid out with contemporary decor. And the barbers cut very well, actually, I don't think you can get a better fade in ho co. The problem is the service. It's horrible. Every time I come in, there's this arrogant air from some of the barbers. Sometimes they speak, usually they don't. The wait is usually excessive too. And just when you think you're about to get in the chair, in walks an appointment. Or a homey of theirs that they decide to cut before you. Damn, I hate that. At least tell somebody you got 7 people ahead of you. And they just raised their prices like they weren't high already! Maybe theyre too comfortable. I don't know why I haven't gone here sooner because I'm very pleased and satisfied with my haircut I got from here! All my life (ever since I started to care about my hair more) I've been going to the hair Cuttery in Hanover Maryland until one day, my barber I always go to, no longer worked there and left without a trace - so my searched commenced to find a new cutter. Through months and months of searching and my hair being butchered, I now can say I found a permanent spot. I am asian so I do have that thick hair that is hard to maintain and cut - so I am picky when it comes to haircuts. Now I can say I found my new permanent spot. 1. The atmosphere is filled with outgoing people; few flat screen tv for customers to watch; nice and smooth lighting; comfortable seats for waiting customers; 2. They ACTUALLY listen to your request on how you want it cut. Other places that aren't barber shops do listen, but usually follow the book whereas, places like this, follow the book, but keep up with the modern trends of haircuts. 3. My wait time was roughly 10mins, but IF they have appointments, they will take them first so I urge you to book one (with a specific barber). Now, I work in the same building complex with them (but downstairs) so I don't mind waiting. Lastly, I got my haircut from Chris. I will be going back from now on. Took my boys there. It's the day before back to school so I expected a long wait, no problem. The pricing seems to be inconsistent. My 15 year old was charged $17 for his haircut while my 13 year old was charged $25 for the exact same haircut. They are happy and asked to return but next time I think I should go inside with them. The diversity amongst the barbers is unlike anything I have ever seen. Like most barbershop each barber here has built up a certain level of loyalty amongst clients that enter the barbershop. I would suggest establishing a relationship with a barber you like and make appointments to ensure you can get in and out as quickly a possible. This barbershop is pretty nice, I must say! I was a walk-in since it was my first time visiting, but I only waited about half an hour. They were very professional with the cuts. I watched several barbers before deciding which one I would go with. I chose Mr. Jeff Hall, second from the front on the right. He was able to meet and exceed my expectations which isn't easily done when it comes to barbers. I've been wearing a low fade with a high top and he was able to touch it up to give it that "extra-crispy" look. He even finished it off with the black-out edge up (they apply a bit of black dye to the hairline in order to give it that holy-crap-sharpness that's ever so desirable!) I walk in on a time crunch and was told I would be seen by the next available barber. Knowing they have appointments set up I was understanding that some people would come in and be seen before I was. Where the issue lies is that there were 3 barbers sitting around doing nothing and I had sat in this shop for 2 hours and still wasn't acknowledged so the next time I asked when they would have a seat open the response was very dodgy.....so overall I wasted hours in this shop to not get my hair cut at all. Not only did they have barbers sitting around or on their phones doing nothing, but the ones that were actively cutting hair were walking around and talking with their coworkers and continuously leaving the customer sitting there. I would not recommend this place to anyone trying to get a haircut in a reasonable amount of time. read more
