I began following Dr. Alkon on IG (@dralkon) and found him to be extremely blunt and informative. He answers all questions in a way that a lay person, not familiar with medicine can understand. That made me feel extremely comfortable because he responded to my DMs and helped me understand what I was getting myself into. Additionally, when I went for the consultation he was realistic with me about my goals and didn't seem concerned with only money. He told me I needed to lose weight and was unwavering about the 31 BMI. He also told me my procedure would be done in a hospital with an anesthesiologist. Some of the other places that I inquired into were performing procedures in their offices or small clinics. The morning of my surgery I was nervous as hell. Dr. Alkon once again took the time to answer my questions which put me at ease. The staff at the hospital including the nurse and anesthesiologist were extremely pleasant. I'm beyond pleased with my results! I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Because he encouraged me to get my weight in order pre-surgery it became a habit that I am maintaining now. Mike has had painful knee issues for years, and for many of those years, medications and injections were able to help. But by the summer of 2017, Mike was in pain all the time. We wound up cancelling vacations and other activities we enjoyed, because it hurt him just to walk up a couple of steps. Our lives got smaller and smaller, and Mike spent more and more time on the couch. Because we are only in our early 60s, we realized that this could be our lives for the next 30 years! Like most people, we have healthy concerns about surgery, but decided this was no way to live. We met with Dr. Rojer and together, made the decision for total knee replacement. We selected a date for surgery, and Dr. Rojer's experienced staff took it from there. The segue from Dr. Rojer's office to Trinitas Medical Center (and beyond that, to post op care and rehab) was seamless. Much to our amazement, Mike was up and walking around the patient floor with his physical therapists, three hours after surgery! When he was discharged from Trinitas, an at-home physical therapist and a home nurse arrived on our doorstep the next day. We didn't have to make any of the arrangements! Surgery and recovery went so well that we scheduled his second knee replacement, and that went just as smoothly. Mike finishes his last week of physical therapy tomorrow, and for the first time in years, he can walk pain-free. We have already made travel plans to take full advantage of that fact. For example, after booking my initial appointment with Dr. Mina, I received a confirmation email that included a link to the website. The website has an employee portal where I could enter my medical, demographic and contact information online. So when I arrived for my appointment, I didn't have have to fill out all of the paperwork that typically precedes consulting with the doctor. The doctor and staff had the information ahead of time. The office environment is clean, bright, quiet, organized and comfortable. Signage clearly welcomes and directs newcomers on where to go from the parking lot. The office is staffed appropriately with receptionists, nurses, technicians, and support staff so that you don't waste time waiting to be examined. Everyone was friendly, yet professional. I didn't feel rushed, but I felt that things moved along quickly. Dr. Mina is personable, smart, and great at explaining his diagnoses, recommended course of treatment, options and potential outcomes. I received an email confirmation of my next appointment, and a separate email offering me an opportunity (via a link) to provide this feedback. There is an apparent disconnect between the doctors and patient expectations with the staff. I would suggest the doctors; but go to a different office. The experience I had with the Union office was the best ever. The experience I had with the Linden office was the worst. The office staff is not honest; nor do they care (except for the surgical coordinators - they are great). Once again - doctors yes - Linden office - not if you want to be frustrated, aggravated, or deceived.
