At first, I was puzzled as to why there were broken glass on the floor. Was there a burglary? Is it the next downtown space being renovated? Is a new business coming in?
Then I found out after looking MUCH closer that this was an art gallery. Yes, the giveaway was the small picture frames that lined the walls in the back. And I was glad.
An art gallery is an awesome addition to a day strolling around downtown. I did some eating, shopping, getting books from the library, seeing some street shows, and... looked at art - all while walking around a few blocks in downtown proper! I didn't think this was possible, but small places like these do make it very popular.
And Christopher Miro gets a big kudos for being downtown's first art gallery!*
*This is excluding those facilities that have hosted art exhibitions while functioning as something else - an office lobby, restaurant, etc. And of course, I'm overlooking the Miami Art Museum in this case, whose current building is tiny and could also be considered a gallery until they finish the construction of their new building.
There's also a small room in the back that showcased more art - and I liked this section more as they consisted of creative and hand-made lamps with a gadzillion of bright-colored plastic parts. I'll definitely come back and check this place especially since they're changing exhibits every month. read more
