There was no one in the store when we visited, and no one behind us waiting so we took our time choosing. The lady working behind the counter seemed slightly exasperated with us. Regardless, we ended up picking a 9 piece box, which was $27. The subsequent times we visited, it was a different employee, who was more friendly so your experience may vary. Regardless, pretty good chocolate overall, albeit pricey, but the store feels kind of cold and sterile.

My absolute favorite is the Dang Dazy milk chocolate--its velvety texture paired with crunchy almond and hazelnut bits creates the perfect balance. The Earl Grey dark chocolate was also incredibly good. While the richness of the dark chocolate leans slightly dominant, you can still catch those subtle, fragrant notes of Earl Grey in each bite. At around $3 per bonbon, it's definitely on the pricier side--but considering the quality, creativity, and variety of flavors, I think it's completely justified. It's especially heartbreaking to share that this is widely considered one of the best artisan chocolate shops in California, and they're now closing their only store in Yountville due to slow business and rising costs. Losing a place like this feels like losing a true gem. If you're anywhere near Yountville, make the trip and show them some love while you still can.

I also ordered an iced coffee, and while the flavor itself was really good, I was a little disappointed to find quite a bit of coffee grounds/sediment at the bottom of my cup. Once I got toward the bottom, it made the coffee taste pretty grainy and unpleasant. I went back and asked if they could remake it, and the staff was kind enough to do so. Unfortunately, the second coffee still had a small amount of grounds at the bottom. It was much less than the first one, so I decided not to go back for a third time. I'm not sure if this was just an issue with the batch or the way the coffee was prepared that day, but it was a little disappointing, especially from a bakery with Bouchon's reputation. Aside from that, the coffee itself tasted good, the macarons were delicious, and I'm glad we stopped in. I would definitely return for the pastries and macarons--I just hope the coffee preparation is a little better next time.

BIRTHDAY DINNER AFTER TWO WINE TASTING…read more One week ago last Saturday night after the second winery my sister, her husband, and my relatives came here for dinner to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived our party was 30 minutes late. On a Saturday night I was concerned if we were going to get a table. Fortunately the receptionist was able to find a table for our party around 6.:00 PM, but he stated we would have to be out by 8:00 PM. I looked at the menu. Since I was going to a steakhouse in Las Vegas in late September I decided not to order steak. For the entree I decided between the branzino or beef short rib. While I am at Vegas I will be going to an Italian restaurant where they serve branzino. So I decided to go with the beef short rib at Bottega. I asked the server what pasta would go well with the beef short rib. He suggested the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren. I'll be honest I thought after seeing pictures of the spaghetti the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren would be bigger. The portion was smaller than I anticipated. If the portion is small the flavor better stand out. The spaghetti was al dente. What I liked about the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was the cherry tomatoes as they were sweet not tarty as tomatoes can be. Even though the portion of the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was small I wasn't full for my main course. Next was the main entrée the beef short rib. I really enjoyed this dish. The beef short rib was moist, but not too rich that I felt bloated. What also cuts the richness of the short beef rib is the polenta. Out of the two dishes I ordered the short beef rib was tastier. I was too full to order dessert even though some of the items were enticing. However I got a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Overall I fun enjoyable with my family for dinner at Bottega.

We were a table of three and ordered three appetizers and three entrées. Unfortunately, our server forgot to put in one of our appetizers, which we had been patiently waiting for. By the time we realized what had happened, it actually ended up working out because we probably ordered a little too much food to begin with. Aside from that, I would say the service was pretty standard. For my entrée, I ordered the braised short ribs and substituted the polenta for potatoes, and they were absolutely delicious. The short ribs were incredibly tender and easily fell off the bone. The potatoes were a great substitution and paired really well with the dish. This was definitely the highlight of the meal for me. At the end of dinner, they surprised me with a complimentary birthday plate with an assortment of small desserts and fresh berries, a candle, and "Buon Compleanno" written in chocolate. It was beautifully presented and a really thoughtful touch that made celebrating my birthday there feel a little more special. Overall, it was a nice birthday dinner. Nothing was particularly out of the ordinary, but I really enjoyed the romantic atmosphere, my short ribs were delicious, and I appreciated the birthday dessert plate at the end. The ambiance is definitely what stood out most to me and made the evening feel special.

Near his other great restaurants and bakery. Which we had to stop at to. I had made reservations since we live so far away and made sure to have a spot since I knew it would be very busy during this special weekend. The parking lot is a good size but it was full for the celebration weekend. They have street parking too. They had a special brunch & lunch menu as well as a dinner one. We were here for brunch on the second day, Saturday. We were seated right away. The service here is always amazing and our server was Byron who did a great job and always had my iced tea full. Very attentive. Their menu is always a tasting menu and the 20th was no different in that style. The first item was the Little Gem Lettuce Salad which was included in Keller's cookbook page 142. It was such a nice presentation and tasted perfect. Everything here is scratch made. We of course had to add the French onion dip with homemade kettle chips. Love them and worth the added charge. The two mains were the Steak and Eggs which was a tri-tip cooked perfectly and poached eggs on top of creamy marsh hen mills polenta. It's the only polenta that I have ever tasted that I really enjoyed. So creamy. The poached eggs were nice and runny. Next of course was his famous fried chicken. Which my wife and I love and drive all this way for all the time. It is crispy , juicy and the best fried chicken ever. Truly so flavorful and amazing. To finish it off they server the Blueberry Cobbler which was also in his cookbook page 296. Crisp topping and hit the spot for that sweet ending. Loved it all. The only thing that was a hiccup was that I ordered a bucket of chicken to go since we love it so. I wanted all dark meat and aske Byron to include it. But when we got home it was all white meat. Oh well still loved it but dark was what I asked for. TIll next time and another 20 years.

Madeleine's Macarons is right across the street from RH Yountville. The interior is clean and minimal. They also offer a variety of sandwiches and crepes, in addition to drinks, gelatos, and the large pastry case of macarons. Service was friendly, but could be slow because it's just 1 person manning the whole shop. As noted before, Madeleine's offers your standard macaron flavors, in addition to some fun sweet flavors like Watermelon Tajin, as well as savory flavors. I honestly don't know why more spots aren't offering these savory versions, because they are AMAZING. In addition to my friend buying a pack of 6 elote macarons, I tried the: strawberry balsamic, thyme & feta with hazelnuts, apple gorgonzola & almond, watermelon tajin, passionfruit, and orange creamsicle. With the exception of the apple gorgonzola, all the flavors were perfectly balanced and delicious. I especially enjoyed the watermelon tajin and the thyme & feta. The elote was also amazing, and had a slight tang. I would have loved more apple in the apple gorgonzola, but it still had a wonderful texture. Of note, however, is that the matcha latte I got was a bit underwhelming. I added the pistachio rose syrup, but could barely taste it. It can be hard to stand out in Yountville among all the other bakeries, but Madeleine's offers something truly unique.

They have a combination of standard flavors (think espresso, pistachio, chocolate) and unique sweet and savory options. It's a small storefront with two tables inside and some outdoor seating. The service was friendly and quick as well. We got 3 macarons to try for $10 - a lavender, watermelon tajin, and apple gorgonzola. Surprisingly the lavender was my least favorite despite us choosing it as a "safe" option - the filling was almost soapy in taste and felt slightly gritty/oily. The watermelon tajin had the flavor of a jolly rancher and also bubblegum and was very unique and interesting to try. The apple gorgonzola was likely my favorite, with the macarons have a sour apple taste and the filling being more creamy with buts of funk and umami from the gorgonzola cutting through. Overall, lots of unique fun flavors at Madeline's and I'm glad I gave it a try! I'm definitely impressed by how they were able to capture this wide variety of flavors in macaron form, and the macaron cookies themseslves are wonderful in texture.

What I got for $14 was two slices of very dry bread, a stack of thin turkey slices, two curled pieces of mild cheddar cheese (on a turkey sandwich?), a single limp leaf of lettuce and a packet of yellow mustard (Heinz) and mayo. No tomato, no seasoning, no balance of flavors. Just dry bread, turkey, and cheese that doesn't even belong on this type of sandwich. The wrap didn't list ingredients and the deli counter was closed, so there was no way to ask questions or customize anything. I ended up stuck with a premade option that felt like something from a hospital cafeteria rather than a market in the Napa Valley. The bread could have saved it, but even that was just a bland sweet roll with no texture or character. For $13+ they could at least use a decent bread from one of the many local bakeries. As a local, it's disappointing because visitors assume places in Yountville will reflect the food reputation of the area. Unfortunately this didn't come close. I've seen similar feedback in other reviews for the deli, and after this experience I understand why. The sad part is those reviews date back for years and they have obviously fallen on deaf ears. Vote with your dollars folks. If you're heading up valley and want a good sandwich, you're honestly better off stopping at Genova in Napa on the way or continuing just a few minutes up the road to Oakville Grocery. If you only need a quick bottle of wine this is a place for you. I rarely say this, but this was a "never again" for me.
