We stayed at this bnb in October 2020. The staff is super friendly and catered well, especially considering the Covid requirements. Every morning you get plenty of options for breakfast, which they do by monthly themes. This month was themed for France, and they did a great job. The room was cozy, featuring a nice fireplace, provided wifi, and a comfortable bed. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from a lot of wonderful restaurants in Providence. If we come back to Providence, we will likely be staying here again. read more

This is an outstanding bed and breakfast! Lots of charm and fantastic breakfast. We had large room with cozy fireplace for heat. I would give it 5 stars if it had an elevator. At a certain age stairs are tough!! Luckily I was traveling with my son who was my private bell boy. All personnel were great. We stayed at the Christopher Dodge House twice in a month, due to planned surgery at a local hospital. What an absolute pleasure, the home is beautiful,clean and very well maintained. The area is very safe and everything is conveniently located. This B&B is an excellent choice, highly recommend without hesitation. The staff, specifically Adlyn (spelling may be wrong for her name), is nothing short of fantastic... she was so amazing to us and her breakfasts delicious! I am so thrilled that I luckily found this cute B&B. The staff was wonderful, the inn was lovely and our room was clean and cozy. I was surprised at how comfortable the beds were too. The location is very convenient to Providence and the nearby colleges, which were the reason for our visit. It's on a nice, quiet street, tucked away from the bustle of the city. I loved how you could see the capital lights at night from our window. We are actually hoping that our child chooses one of Providence colleges so we have many more opportunities to stay at the Christopher Dodge House. read more

This is the quintessential B&B experience in Providence! From the moment we rang the doorbell, we were greeted warmly and with a house tour (and cupcakes!). Our room was so cozy and comfortable, with a beautiful fireplace to warm us up. It's a beautiful property that has been renovated, full of old charm and classic structures while being maintained well for us 2015 vacationers. Breakfast was so delicious, with a combination of typical continental fare along with made-to-order hot food. Did I mention it's really good - everything from chorizo omelettes to kielbasa and sweet potato crepes, nom nom good! Staff were incredibly friendly, helpful for recommendations, and made our stay the best. If/when we visit Providence again, we are sure to stay at the Dodge! read more

I was pretty underwhelmed by this bed and breakfast, especially compared to other ones I've stayed at and all the good reviews this one somehow has. They did let me check in 15 minutes early. However, shortly after checking in, they called me and said they didn't have a spare set of keys for my room. They took mine back, and gave me a master key to the place to use while they had a new one made, which made me feel kind of uneasy. The room was very noisy and uncomfortable. It was on the top floor, and I know heat rises, but it was March and I had the AC on full blast just to be comfortable. I would not want to stay there in the warmer months. The room was very noisy, due to highway traffic. Also, the bed headboard was not attached to the wall or the bed frame, so it wobbled and clanked against the wall every time I would move slightly while trying to sleep, only adding to the noise. Lastly, the shower was extremely slow to drain. (The pillows and sheets in the room were very comfortable.) Breakfast was okay, but not very filling. I was hungry again about an hour after eating it. The location was not as central as I would have liked. Federal Hill, downtown, and Benefit street are all a bit of a hike, and at night the area seemed a little sketchy. When I told a bartender it was off of Holden Street, she suggested I take an Uber back at night. It was very convenient to the State House. Parking on site was nice, but be aware that you are not guaranteed a space in their small lot, and overflow parking is a couple of streets away. Normally, I would have mentioned all of the room negatives to a staff member, but not one person asked how I slept or how the room was, which I find shocking for a small business. read more

Would love to come here again! Kind staff, spacious and cozy rooms (with gas fireplaces for heat, which were a nice tough), folksy decor, virtually home-cooked breakfast. My only caution would be that the entire building has New England-style steep staircases, so guests with limited mobility may have difficulty getting around the building. My wife and I stayed at the Christopher Dodge House on the night of our wedding in April and it was a GREAT experience. The room was incredibly clean and comfortable, the view was great, the ambience with the fireplace and the quiet of the house was lovely---for someone who really does not enjoy the city, it was truly a private escape for the night. The breakfast was excellent. The staff went above and beyond, leaving a note and waking in the middle of the night because my Bride and I returned almost at midnight. The young man opened the door and helped with luggage and said nothing of the fact I (apparently) missed a note with other check-in instructions that would have disturbed his sleep less. I would recommend this place highly. P.S. I thought Yelp was for reviews. Apparently for some it's a forum on which to whine and degrade nice businesses and decent people that, despite their efforts, might not make everything PERFECT for a guest. Gimme a break. Some people are impossible to please and should just stay home...and off of Yelp. read more

This is hard because I don't think I've ever written a negative review for any service or venue in my life but this place is my worst nightmare. I am a seasoned traveler not unaccustomed to inconvenience.I am presently a guest against my wishes and better judgment. I arrived in Providence today for a conference at Brown (my alma mater) after a day of being sick in the airport and multiple messages from my doctors asking me to return to Chicago immediately for testing. Upon my arrival, I mentioned that I probably wouldn't be staying the whole time. The manager Kate advised me that she couldn't help me since my reservation was through Travelocity. I went to my room and immediately called my doctor and Travelocity. The folks at Travelocity were wonderful. My compliments to Ian and the his team at Travelocity. They did everything they could to accomodate me given that this is a medical emergency. Kate, the manager at Christopher Dodge, on the other had was adament that policy is policy and charged my credit card for two days anyway. The Travelocity folks offered to send her the texts/emails from my doctors but she didn't care. Policy is policy. It's all about the $$$. Humanity and compassion be damned. I pray that Kate and her loved ones never have a medical emergency or crisis. And if she does, I hope she is met with more kindness and compassion than I was shown. The Christopher Dodge House got my $$$ for tonight. Is not charging me for tomorrow really going to bankrupt them? Shame on them! read more

Our stay at the Christoper Dodge House was very warm and inviting. The staff was very gracious and hospitable. Our room was very cozy and comfortable with a fireplace to keep us warm during the evening and early mornings. The king size bed was fitted with luxurious soft sheets, a soft blanket and quilt. They have a pillow exchange closet to suit your pillow needs. The breakfast was delicious. They offer a continental and daily featured hot breakfast. Daily, they bake muffins, pound cake and pastries. They amazing smell of baking consumes the house making it smell like Grandmas. We were given breakfast to go on two occasions. It consisted of a pot of yogurt, fruit, muffin or bagel and a boiled egg. My husband and I overslept one morning and we were still accommodated for breakfast. The inn is within walking distance to Providence Place Mall and the Dunkin Donut Center and Restaurants. I highly recommend the Inn, you will not be disappointed. read more

This place is so charming! I stayed here with my 6 year old and the staff took great care of us - they even made her a special breakfast when she didn't like the hot meal being offered. Our room was spacious and clean, and the bed was so comfortable. There are lots of thoughtful touches that set this B&B apart from a standard hotel - a common room with snacks and drinks, free cookies by the door, and books to borrow. Free on site parking was also a big bonus - we left our car in the lot and walked to most things we wanted to see. There was some noise from the nearby highway, but the room had a white noise machine that drowned it out. read more

EDIT 11/21/2016: Management got in touch with me finally and refunded the entire air mattress cost. They were very helpful throughout the process. Overall, the place is adorable, historically interesting, neat, and comfortable. ------------------ Cute place but management and housekeeping have communication issues. Housekeeping neglected our room one night even though we took down the "do not disturb" sign before we left, leaving us with dirty towels and a deflated air mattress that my sister was sleeping on. The leaky air mattress deflates by itself- as a result of housekeeping not refilling the mattress my sister had to sleep on the floor. No refunds offered for that awful experience. read more

Although this bed and breakfast is not a budget establishment,I felt staying there was a delightful experience.I spent 4 quality nights in this very comfortable hostelry.My room was classy,the breakfast was superb,and the staff were very devoted to its guests(everyone was a true Providence goodwill ambassador).Being Close to the Rhode Island State House and the Roger Williams Historic Site was an added bonus. read more

Just stayed here for the weekend. Came in from Jersey for our nephew's wedding. Absolutely would recommend this B&B! Quiet, quaint and very good location to the town of Providence. Within walking distance of many fine restaurants and shopping! Definitely a must to eat in Federal Hill section, "Little Italy'. Friendly staff greeted us upon our arrival. Suggested a few places to eat that were within walking distance. Clean, cozy, beautiful rooms. My son and I both commented how nice the shower felt. The breakfast was awesome. My son, who is not the biggest fan of vegetables, loved the Vegetable strudel. They also had a nice display of seasonal pastries and breads. Finally, the price was very reasonable for the area and the place. read more

I recommend this nice, cozy, and quaint little B&B to visitors for a bunch of reasons: not generic, less hassle for check in/check out, free parking, free breakfast that actually tastes good, convenient location to the highway (nothing much going on in the neighborhood though), quiet, safe, proprietors are friendly, inexpensive compared to a chain hotel. This B&B is a little bit nicer than the Mowry Nicholson a street over (sister B&B) b/c of the in room fireplace, the period furniture and breakfast is in the same house. I liked staying here so much and I stayed here for so many weekdays when I was commuting back and forth to Providence that my boss started to wonder if I was even trying to find an apartment. read more

We booked 4 rooms for the Brown Commencement weekend and were thrilled with the accommodations (the rooms are beautiful), the friendly hospitality, delicious breakfasts, and the option of walking to the campus. I was also here in 2012 and loved it and must say that I would stay no where else in Providence! read more

We had a wonderful weekend in Providence staying at the Christopher Dodge house. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was really delicious, and our room was so cozy! We stayed in room 1, and our room had a nice gas fireplace and a comfortable bed, and plenty of space. A couple things about the room that could be fixed are that the drain in the bathtub was a bit clogged, and the fireplace was a little loud because the grate in front of it would vibrate. But overall, Christopher Dodge house is a charming bed and breakfast, and great for a relaxing weekend. read more

One of the best B and B's I have ever stayed in. Facilities were charming, well preserved, maintaining period details, décor, etc. but still with updated necessities (bath, hvac, etc.) Our room was large with gas fireplace. Breakfast was delicious. I did not see an elevator so probably not appropriate for those who can not handle stairs. read more

Great for everything except sleeping. This B&B overlooks interstate 95 and it is LOUD! This should be noted on their website so that guests can make sure to ask for rooms away from the highway. We would have asked to switch rooms except we didn't realize until we were in bed to sleep and it was too late. I agree 100% with the review by Amber, who had the exact same issues with the noise and the level of heat in the room. Even with freezing temperatures outside, it was way too warm and we tried to open the windows but of course, with the noise, it was hard to keep them open. No way around the situation. When we tried to tell the office about some maintenance issues in the room upon check out, they chided us for not calling maintenance in the middle of the night. Impossible to understand why there are so many good reviews of this place; leaving two stars in the hopes of a more balanced and accurate rating. read more

We wanted to find a relaxing place to spend an evening in Providence. What a great surprise this was! Arriving from the highway, we had to pass through what seemed like some sketchy roads and got nervous, but when we drove a few more blocks and saw the beautiful historic building, surrounded by other "classic" Providence homes, we were very happy. The location seems to be minimally run by two hospitality people, so don't expect anxious bellhops at the door. But that is part of the charm too. It is a B&B not a hotel. The rooms we had was beautiful, with a great view of the neighborhood and historic furniture, and extra special soft sheets. There was a small modern fridge in the room for those who need it. There is also a public room with free coffee, tea, and baked goods available and an honor system to buy other snacks. And....boy....was the breakfast delicious! Again, they had set out baked goods, then brought a lovely cooked meal. It was a little tougher for my vegan boyfriend, but they had instant oatmeal and brought him an abundance of fresh fruit.
