A highlight of a recent Paris trip was a guided secret food tour in Monmartre, and a highlight of that highlight was a visit to Christophe Roussel. our guide said that when the proprietors name is on the storefront, great care is taken to maintain quality as their reputation at stake. Also, when the storefront is black, it indicates that they have chosen not to invest little in marketing, but rather to allow the products quality to speak for the shop. Just finished the last of an Oranges Confites chocolate bar that I've been saving. I have to go back. read more

I don't think I'll ever eat macarons outside of Paris again. Christophe Roussel was absolutely divine. The rose one was my personal favorite, followed closely by the pistachio cherry. The flavors are so impeccably crafted and true to their profile that I ate all four in one sitting with no regrets. :) The shop is super small with only a couple of seats to sit and enjoy should you choose to stay, but it's right outside Montmartre, which makes for beautiful outdoor eating areas! I highly recommend stopping here for a small (or in my case, large) treat. read more

If you're in the Montmartre area and you just absolutely need macarons, this is the place to go! We were taken to this shop on a food tour and I'm so glad we went. I probably wouldn't have known about this place if it wasn't for that. I'm so glad to know they ship. They have typical flavors and then very unique flavors. I decided to go for it and try something different. The rose and lavender were amazingly delectable. My other favorites were the banana chocolate and cheesecake even though they were all very good. I recommend at least trying one unique flavor. We brought back a dozen to the U.S. with us. They travel really well. Not one got smashed or anything, so they're packed really well. They come with a little flavor chart so you don't forget, so handy. read more

This is my favorite Macaron/Chocolatier place in the Montmartre area. Stop paying overprice macarons at Ladurée or at Sébastien Gaudard with their horrible service. When you walk into Christophe Roussel, employees great you with a smile in French and English, they even let you sample chocolate or a macaron! That's unheard of at Ladurée! Well at least in the states, lines were too long at the Champs-Élysées location for me to find out if they gave samples. You can tell that things are made fresh at Christophe Roussel, there are hand printed expiration dates in each box of chocolates and they open the boxes to make sure all chocolates are accounted for before you walk out the store. Their macarons are Divine! The outer shell is just a bit crispy with an airy soft middle and the filling is plentiful as well as flavorful. I didn't get a chance to try their chocolate truffle, instead I bought them as gifts and the recipients said it's some of the most delicious chocolates they had aside from chocolates from Switzerland... well the Swiss are tough to beat in chocolates. I highly recommend, and will definitely be back!! read more

Our nine year old has literally eaten her way around Paris - stopping (what seems like) every 100 meters for macaroons. We've been to chain bakeries, small one-off shops and even groceries stores. We've been to so many places - they've all blended together for me. That is, until we went to Christophe Roussel. We found our way to CR based on the recommendation of Chef Anne who we took a cooking baking class from. The macaroons in CR were - according to our daughter and by consensus opinion of my wife and I - the best we've had on this trip. And, believe me - we've been to a LOT of macaroon shops. read more

Chocolate and macaron shop near Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, Paris. I discovered this shop while walking around the area, as it's very close to the busy entrance to Sacre Coeur. The colorful Macarons will immediately catch your eye but as I discovered the chocolates were just as delicious. The prices here were reasonable, the staff were friendly and spoke English, and they even had samples of some of their items available on the counter both times I visited. Almost everything is available by the piece and nice boxes are also available, the assortment here is vast and great! Final tip, if you visit on a cold day, definitely try their hot chocolate!!! Not only was it unbelievably good, but you can walk a few steps to Sacre Coeur, sit on one of the benches overlooking the entire city while sipping away!!! read more

I had a list of macaron places to try in Paris and Christophe Roussel was not on the list. The place took me by surprise. We just happened to stop for macarons on our way to Sacre Coeur, thinking they would be a nice treat for the top of the hill... we liked them so much we came back to get a box to go. Get the chocolate covered caramel, cheesecake and raspberry. They were by far my favorite of all the macarons I had on my whole trip! read more

The macarons at Christophe Roussel are seriously amazing! This chic shop is located in the heavy tourist area near Sacre Coeur, but it's a little oasis from the chaos of the street outside. Each macaron is €1.60, which seems to be a reasonable price to me. We tried four flavors (ranked in order of preference): vanilla, hazelnut, strawberry jasmine, and pistachio cherry. They were all fantastic, there was just something about the intense vanilla flavor that put it over the edge! Escape the crowds and go give Christophe Roussel a try! read more

I was absolutely blown away by the macarons here! I've never experienced something with so much flavor packed into such a light and delicate macaron. On my first visit, I tried the Cherry Chili and the Passionfruit Tarragon. On my second visit, I bought a box of 16 to take home and tried the Lavender Apricot. These are so delicious! Um, so I liked these better than Laduree and I love Laduree. I know I'm shocked too. These were outstanding and cheaper, 1.40 euro each compared to 2.00+ euro each. I think they only have the mini ones. I didn't see any larger ones. I stopped by on a rainy Sunday and there was a small wait. The women helping me was very nice and offered suggestions on her favorites. They had all the standard flavors and then some non-traditional ones. I had lemon which was fine, I probably prefer the Laduree citron. I also tried chocolate which was super delicious and lastly her suggestion of the cherry with dark chocolate. Wow, was that one amazing! I could have eaten a dozen of those. They also have a huge chocolate selection which I just glanced at but looked impressive. I have no idea if they have other locations but if not, make the trek to this store. It's worth it! read more

Stoped by here to try some macaroons while in Paris. It was my first time because I always thought they had coconut flakes in them. Surprisingly, they don't! I tried the raspberry and hazelnut macaroons. They were heavenly. In addition, the hostess that helped Up was extremely nice and clearly described the pastries and chocolates. read more

I came here looking for a special salt today. Unfortunately they didn't have the salt to sell, but were very generous and letting me taste some of the amazing chocolates and Caramel sauce, which was actually made with that special salt. The chocolates, caramel, and macarons are the best I have ever tasted in my life! Everything made there is the highest quality, and made with the least number of ingredients, which is really important to me and says that it's the healthiest of recipes. There were two people working there, one girl and one guy, and I'm terribly sorry that I did not get their names... they were incredibly kind and courteous and welcoming, and gave me the most excellent service! Besides that, they really know their products! I ended up buying some caramel sauce, chocolate, caramel candy, and macarons. Each product deserves a page just telling about how amazing it is... but suffice to say if you miss out on shopping at this wonderful store you are missing a treat beyond what I can explain! I'm excited to be taking these treats home to California to share with my kids. A total gem hidden in Montmartre. The sales associate was super friendly despite ma grammaire Francaise terrible. The chocolate bars make great souvenirs. The mid sixtieth percentile chocolate bar starts at 5 EU. The associate cheerfully wrapped ribbon (lots of colors to choose from) around each one after I indicated they were gifts for separate individuals. They also sell macarons (so many types from which to choose!) and fancier chocolates (shaped like le Tour Eiffel...around 7.5+ EU for 3 tiny tours; lip-shaped ones for 'kisses' from Paris...etc.). My walk down the street from Sacre Coeur Basilica on the way to the metro station, I stopped in to buy a box of macarons to take back home to Canada. I honestly was never a fan of these treats until I tried them in Paris. This store makes excellent macarons, not super sweet, but the texture is wonderful - chewy in the middle with a slightly crisp outside. YUMM, definitely recommend. Box of 12 costs $19 euros. read more
