He saved me from getting four teeth extracted unnecessarily. I only truly needed one extraction for an implant. Instead, he performed osseous surgery (I wasn't a candidate for LANAP due to the advanced stage of my condition), and everything went incredibly well. I was sedated and didn't feel a thing. The level of professionalism, honesty, and skill here is unmatched. If you're looking for a periodontist not only in the Crofton area but in the DMV, Dr. Bruce is the one you want. Cutting away gum and grinding on bone to expose more of your teeth and then sewing up my gums caused me some concern but Dr. Joe Passaro, my prosthodontist assured me Dr. Mugford was great at these and many other dental procedures. I was pleasantly surprised that after localized numbing I didn't feel any pain during both procedures. For a day or so after each procedure I felt minimal soreness. I had 2 (Maryland) bridges, one done by him and one done by another doctor years before. I recently had an emergency where my Maryland bridge done by the other doctor had came out. With my sisters wedding in 2 days I had called Dr Sfondouris just a half hour before they were closing and expressed my issue. He told me to come to his office that day and even stayed late for me. He managed to help me and gave me a temporary flipper. Dr. Sfondouris went out of his way to help me, he is an amazing person and even a better doctor. I had no expectation that I was going to have a tooth and he made sure that I was equipped for the wedding. I full heartedly give them 5 stars keeping every aspect of my previous experience with them and my most recent one. They always strive to be the best and the staff there are so genuine and personable that I love giving them my business and will certainly be back at the drop of a hat. I 100% recommend their services and skill as Dr Sfondouris and the rest of the team there do phenomenal work.

I was self-pay, but the dentist offered a financial payment plan that dramatically reduced the cost of cleanings (2 per year. at about 50% of the listed fee) and x-rays ( every other year). So why am I complaining? My long-time dentist, Dr Berger sold his practice in Annapolis and retired... I suppose if I hadn't left Maryland in five years ago and I miss him I suppose that if I had not moved to NC 5 years ago... my trust level would have matured by now. I have constantly called the office to schedule an appointment, and the staff would always say they will call me back. After two months of waiting for a call back, I still do not have an appointment. Despite multiple uncomfortable interactions with Dr. McEnroe over the years, I never made a formal complaint--just asked to have my account noted not to be scheduled with her. At a recent appointment, I had no choice but to see her again since Dr. Vargas was out. When things didn't go well, I calmly asked to speak with her to share how her attitude has made me feel as a long-time, paying patient. No yelling or cursing--just expressing myself respectfully. She acted shocked, interrupted me, and didn't take ownership. A few days later, I received both an email and a letter saying they would no longer provide care, claiming the relationship was no longer "conducive to a congenial atmosphere." Sadly, it seems this is how they respond when patients speak up--something I've since noticed mentioned in other reviews. Also worth noting: after every appointment, they push hard via email for Google and Facebook reviews, which may explain why their Google rating is high, while their Yelp page tells a very different story.

First of all they schedule each procedure separately and never together. We have would been told that we have an appointment for one thing and when we would arrive, it would be for something else entirely different. Secondly, Shannon is beyond rude and unprofessional. She is belittling and sarcastic. She has NO customer service skills. They have a 4.7 rating in Google. I am not sure how when their rating is 2.1 on Yelp. Maybe some incentive for posting a good review or family and friends are doing the reviews because there is no way they have earned and kept such a high rating. Sure the office is aesthetically pleasing but the professionalism is beyond lacking. I wish I checked Yelp before deciding to go to Vargas Dental Associates. You have been warned. Stay away from this place or you too will find yourself unhappy with your dental experience.
