I must say parking sucks- there is a lot right next to, but there was a dark skinned man sitting in the lot basically patrolling. He told me I can't park there after I said I was running into deli to quickly pick up.. I found this a major turnoff. I'm 9 months pregnant might I add and the deli is basically on a narrow steep road with minimal spots. Not ideal. I also wouldn't consider the Area extremely safe so I didn't want to park too far away. I ended up just parking illegally and running in. I ordered (a whole) Favorite Joe, fries and macaroni salad. Everything tasted fresh once I got home and was good! I wouldn't say it's better or worse than Millburn deli - I can appreciate both places having a quality sloppy Joe!! If you're in the area, I would recommend you stop in!!

Millburn is the flagship store, so naturally there are menu items exclusive to this location. I've noticed that the hours of operation here are slightly different than all of the others (this one opens and closes earlier). There's minimal parking in front of the store, rarely available. Your best bet is to park on the side of the store in the small parking lot. It's free for the first 30 minutes, but there is a meter. I love that the lot is also connected to Taylor Park, a cute neighborhood open space with a fountain. The 5 stars continue to stick for me because I've never had a bad sandwich here. My favorite two are The Griller #8 (with extra pesto or garlic mayo, depending on my mood). And the Friday Joe is always a hit! This time I opted for the Egg Salad sloppy joe with red onion. They could be more generous with the pickles. But the sandwich is a hit! I always appreciate that if you ask to sample anything, they're more than happy to oblige. The service is efficient and even if it's crowded they move pretty quickly. It can be a bit overpriced, especially if you want to substitute or add anything. But it's always satisfying and worth it in the end.

The gobbler sandwich is yummy, The Godfadda, The Gossip Girl, I also have had an egg salad with layer of tuna salad Sloppy Joe-that is amazing! The Cobb salad is also a fave. My friends rave about all the sandwiches they have tried. They are very friendly behind the counter and the order takers are fast and efficient. It gets crowded but moves fast.

John's Market has been at this same location since 1917 (103 years-WOW) when 85 year old Paul's father, John (as in John's Market) opened the Market. You sometimes hear that some of these places are like taking a trip into the past. In this case, nothing could be truer. John's is a no frills, cozy, friendly, nostalgic, neighborhood Italian eatery certainly reminiscent of the 1920-1940's. The walls are covered with photos of old time police, firemen, sports figures, visitors, etc. which certainly add to the classic Italian ambiance and vibe this place puts out. Old wooden tables lined in 3 rows offer a communal eating arrangement for John's customers, who clearly were pretty much all regulars and who knew each other. A lot of Italian language conversations going on here. By the time we left we also were friends with everyone around us. It's that kind of place. As soon as we entered we were met by the current owner, Paul, who is John's son and who was celebrating his 85th birthday today. He even shared his birthday cake with everyone. Our waitress, Grace, could not have possibly been nicer or more accommodating. We started off with a complimentary oil based spread of vegetables which went perfectly with the nice fresh Italian bread which we all shared as we waited to order. We started with a choice of white or red pasta fagioli. I had the white and I have to admit it ranked with some of the best pasta fagioli I ever had. (Paul says that he didn't want to brag but his escarole and beans would be the best I ever had-next time.) My entree was a simple Chicken Parmesan sandwich which was well filled with two nice pieces of chicken covered in a very tasty and tangy tomato sauce (gravy) served on really delicious Italian bread. Outstanding! One in our group ordered an egg, pepper and potato sandwich on Italian bread, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Said he hadn't has one in many years which made it all the better. We then enjoyed Paul's birthday cake with some complimentary coffee while talking with Paul about the history of his establishment and the many pictures covering his walls. Great lunch, great time! I highly recommend stopping by John's if you get the chance. You won't be sorry. By the way John's is a BYOB. Thursday is his Special's Day' where you get served what he makes that day. Paul did say it may be very hard to get in as he gets quite a crowd on that day. I can understand why. Street parking only but we had no trouble finding a spot. 03/13/2020

I had overlooked this place 'til now as it sits in a row of more obvious eateries with sidewalk seating. A cold case with interesting and tasty looking salads convinced me to give them a try and I am not sorry. I ordered through the kiosk and was tickled to see my favorite fish sandwich on the menu. Served on a nice hamburger bun, the crispy fresh white fish was perfectly cooked and piled high with fish. All the condiments--lettuce, pickle (hold the tomato) capers and tartar sauce set the fish off wonderfully. Staff is friendly and efficient. Everything is prepared as a "to-go" order and served up in a nice package, but there are tables where you can sit and eat your "to-go." I was eager to get back home to my pup, so I did take it home and it was still hot when I got there. The corn salad I had as a side was awesome and in a lovely light lemon dressing.

I ordered a sandwich and it was exactly what a deli sandwich should be fresh bread, generous portions, and ingredients that taste like they were prepped that day. They don't skimp on anything, and the flavors were spot on. Prices are also very fair for the quality you get, which is always a plus. Whether you're grabbing breakfast, lunch, or a quick bite on the go, G & S is the kind of dependable local spot you're happy to have in the neighborhood. The energy is also open enough where strangers will have a convo while waiting. Coming from Brooklyn, I'm happy to have this spot so close to where I am now. Savory: My go-to is the chickpea tuna sandwich. I've tried it on a roll, long sub, and gluten-free... highly recommend the long sub. It's way too messy on the roll for me. Typically get it with the works. The potato salad is also very good most of the time (sometimes the potatoes are a little undercooked). I've also had the macaroni salad and the fried mushroom sandwich which are also good. I definitely enjoyed the thanksgiving special with stuffing (highly recommend that if they bring it back this year). Tip: if ordering a hero and you don't see yourself eating the entire thing in one sitting, I recommend requesting for the sandwich to not be cut so you can cut it evenly on your own For baked goods: the peach cobbler is good and it comes in a cute cup with a little spoon. I've also had the lemon cake & rum cake. Would order all 3 again. Would love to see donuts or cinnamon rolls (hopefully without cashews or walnuts due to my allergy). DRINKS: I haven't had a drink there that I would get again. The teas are overwhelmingly sweet; hibiscus punch was a lot like kool-aid to me. I also don't recommend the matcha if you are a matcha snob. Harper's Cafe is a great black-owned spot for a consistently good latte and they use quality matcha if you want quality nearby. Great spot with lots of options, especially if you're looking for a black-owned spot to support.
