A moving moms dream! I've never used a moving company before, having heard so many horror stories about them. But we relocated from Monterey county - Orange County. 2 kids, myself and my mom, we had no choice. Never had a better moving experience . Chris came out the day I called him and did a walk through and verified what went and what didn't. He sent a text quote with a range. I changed plans on a few things a few times and he was always very accommodating. He even offered to have his team drive one of our cars to save us on the tow. They didn't even charge us for having to add a small trailer at the last minute. They packed one day, locked out trucks in a secured lot and drove ahead of us early the next morning. By the time we got to our house the were almost done. It was a substantial downsize for us and we anticipated having to store things but they worked with us on rearranging things to make a comfortable fit, we didn't have to get storage. They made sure we didn't need anything else several times and even helped load stuff into our parking storage box. These guys are great! Based on the reviews I read here, I hired Chris to do a couple of jobs for me. First, hauling a bunch of junk from our garage, then, taking some stuff to my storage unit, taking out a ton of stuff from the unit, then driving to Carmel to drop a few things off with my Sister and then bringing the rest back to my place in Monterey. Him and his partner (I can't remember his name!) arrived on time, were very nice, and did a fantastic job of all of it. I have used Chris' Deliveries & Hauling 3 times and have always been impressed with this company. When I moved from Marina to Monterey I knew that the job was bigger than I could do by myself. I asked around within my circle to see if any of my friends knew a mover, many of them recommended Chris, so I gave him a call. Chris set up an appointment with me to come and survey the items to be moved. He arrived on time and was very professional. He gave me a fair price and offered some advice on how best to pack and stage each room for him and his crew. I followed his advice to the letter and on the day of the move Chris arrived on time with his crew. Chris walked his crew through the place and told them where to start. They were fast and efficient. They started at 8AM, and by noon they were unloading at the new place. I have to say, these are the friendliest bunch of guys I have ever hired. All of them were extremely courteous and professional. Chris and his moving team (henceforth CDH) did a fantastic job helping us move within the Monterey area. As a military family, we're familiar with the moving process and the all-to-common dings and scratches that inevitably accompany such an evolution. However, CDH surprised us on all fronts; professional and courteous, they moved our home goods with great care and skill. Overcoming many unforeseen difficulties beyond their control, they stayed until the job was complete on the day of our move and made sure my wife and I were satisfied with the job before departing. CDH even returned to help us with a few items my wife and I mistakenly left behind on the deck. When everything was complete, our home goods were moved safely and affordably into the new house. I would recommend Chris to anyone that needs help moving. We were in a bit of a bind, coming into town for a week to clear out a storage locker. We called Chris and he was able to come out within two days to help take the furniture and usable items to Goodwill and then the unusable items to the dump. He and his helper - forgot his name :( - pulled everything out of the locker and loaded it into the truck quickly and carefully. He was patient while we checked some boxes in the back of the locker. I have been a real estate investor and property manager for the past 20 years with properties in multiple states. I have had to move several times over the past 20 years dealing with many different movers and moving companies. None of those movers are anyone that I would recommend. I have yet to find a mover with true integrity; that is until I dealt with Chris. Chris assisted my wife (whom is 8 months pregnant) with a 4 bedroom, 2 story move. Chris and his team of 4 guys showed up with great attitudes, smiles on their faces and exuded nothing but help. This maintained the entire day, even though it was a long one. At the end of the move he was scheduled to put together a few beds, but my wife told him that it was a long day and there was no need. There was an oversight with the move where there were a few items in the garage that we didn't inform Chris of during the original walk-through. Chris offered to come back and take care of those at another time. He was a man of his word and he did so a few days later. Not only that, when he came back to drop off the items from the garage he had his tools in his hand and he asked, "Where are the beds?" I had since put them together, but the fact that he asked unsolicited that said a lot. He was all about integrity and getting the job done. Chris is a good guy, with a good heart. I used Chris to move me from Monterey to Paso Robles. he showed up on time and was prepared and ready to go. He was meticulous about how he packed everything into the trailer. Even noticed a weak leg on a vanity and stopped to try to make it more stable. He had blankets to wrap things in and loaded it with care and I'm still amazed at how he packed it all in perfectly. I seriously didn't need to spend as much time as I did bubble wrapping and cushioning everything. He took care of my things like they were his own. Fast and efficient. Get's it done but not in a hap hazard way. He even came back the next day and cleaned out everything I had left there and took it to the dump! UPDATE: After reading my less-than-impressed review on Yelp, Chris contacted me via text. He said that he always tries to leave jobs with a good rapport, and wondered if there was anything on his end that could be done to make things right. I thought this was a good move on his part, and responded that I would update my review to reflect his outreach. ------------------------- I guess they don't want the business. I used Chris' Deliveries and Hauling a couple of months ago. It took a couple of repeated phone calls and messages before he rang me back, but we set up the moving job: transporting the contents of a storage unit to a house. Chris and his newly-hired trainee showed up on the day as arranged, but with a smaller truck than I expected (I had explained the size of the storage unit). He informed me that his moving dolly had been stolen the night before, and would need to drive to Salinas to get a proper one, a trip that would require time away from the moving job. I was unimpressed at the way things were starting out. After some discussion, he decided to get a smaller, cheap dolly at Home Depot in Monterey on their lunch break. Because of the small truck, the move took two trips and significantly longer than expected. He charged the high end of the price he had quoted me, but overall I was satisfied with the work; they were careful, and did a good job moving some heavy furniture. I promised to hire him again in a couple of months for another moving job that I knew was coming. Flash forward. With an overseas shipping container arriving, I called Chris and left several messages over a couple of days but never received a return phone call. I had to confirm the delivery of the container with the trucking company (which meant I needed to confirm that I had a moving crew), and I was feeling frustrated not to hear back to my repeated messages -- especially because I had outlined the situation and that I was waiting to hear from him to schedule. I finally sent a text message asking if he was out of town, whether he was still in business, or simply not interested in doing the job... because I couldn't fathom any other reason why he hadn't responded. By the time he eventually replied via text (almost a day later) saying he was busy, but could maybe do the job next week, I had been forced to make other arrangements. I had already wasted way too much time trying to chase him down and had to move forward. So... a mixed bag for review. I would recommend Chris' Deliveries for the work he actually does: he's careful, hard working, and pleasant. Unfortunately, the communications side of his business is terrible, and he lost me as a customer because of it. read more
