There is a narrow paved road that runs through the cemetery. I was expecting to see a much older graveyard, but the majority of those interred here died within the last 40 years. The oldest grave I could find was from 1932. There are a large number of graves belonging to service members and I noticed many graves did not have a head stone, just the metal plaque from the funeral home. One thing that seemed a little out of place, was the fact that there were no family plots and all the graves are basically scattered about and not arranged in any orderly fashion. There is no Texas historical landmark sign, nor is there a kiosk with the listings of those interred here. The photos below add another dimension to this story.

There is no fence surrounding it or a road leading into it. The grave plots are pretty much scattered and random throughout the property with no real order to them. The majority of these graves were placed here in the last 40 to 50 years. The newest grave was from 2021 making this still an active graveyard. Unfortunately the cemetery has not been kept up too well and has a lot of unmanicured trees and lots of weeds. The oldest grave that I could find here was from 1935. This family cemetery is not far off from the busy 360/2244 intersection. It is setback about 100…read morefeet from Castle Ridge Road, which is about a block from that intersection. It was definitely established long before all this western expansion arrived. It is now surrounded on all sides by apartments, businesses and homes. However, the cemetery is not that old and there are no markers from the 1800s. Almost all of the headstones are recent or from a few decades back. It occupies about an acre full of weeds that are occasionally mowed. It is called the Brown cemetery, but the name Cooper pops up a lot here along with a few others. For the most part, this cemetery looks largely cobbled together with graves randomly laid out amongst the sprawling trees. There's a few graves that were hardly marked at all. There was a phone number on the gate, but no kiosk as to whom the deceased that lay here are. There is no Texas historical sign found here either. It is still an active cemetery with some space left, but it's unlikely to be open to the general public. As the photos and video below point out, this place is probably not worth visiting.

The older section of Oakwood cemetery is just as painted by literature and movies - crumbled down gravestones, crawling vines, unnamed dead, multiple generations of families buried together, and wrought iron fencing. Go find the graves of John Henry Faulk, Andrew Jackson Hamilton, and Ima Hogg! I hope I have not disturbed any of the dead during my visits there or my Yelp review. Bio: Susanna Dickinson was the wife of Captain Almaron Dickinson and was the sole adult Anglo survivor that witnessed the massacre at the Battle of the Alamo. On the morning of March 6, 1836, as the troops of General Antonio López de Santa Anna stormed the mission, Captain Dickinson ran to his wife, reported that all was lost, and expressed hope that she could save herself and their child. Although he died at the Alamo, his wife and child Angelina survived. Following the fall of the Alamo, Susanna was escorted from the Alamo mission, interviewed by Santa Anna himself and sent by him with a message to Sam Houston. I've seen some Hispanic graveyards which have been well kept up by family members, but unfortunately this acreage seems neglected. Many of these graves date back to the 1920s, 30s and newer. I do not believe this is an active graveyard as there were no recent decedents to be found here. The most recent grave that I could find here was from 1964. I spotted it on Google maps, so with this review, the photos should make it to Google maps. Unfortunately, it is completely overgrown and uncared for which makes it hard to spot from the road. There is a fence that surrounds the perimeter, but it too has seen better days. To add to the confusion, many of the graves are just randomly laid out and in a state of disrepair. Little to no effort has been made to restore the grounds. Most of the markers are cast in concrete, not granite, leading me to believe this may be an African-American graveyard. It appears some members of the public have set up a few benches at the fence perimeter, but no restoration has been attempted. If you come here in the summertime and the weeds are high, you may run across a snake. You will need jeans and boots to get through all the scrub and stickers. Apart from a Texas historical marker, there is no additional information that I could find other than in the photos below.

The road that leads to the cemetery entrance is run down with some homeless encampments along it. There are about six parking spaces and you can actually drive into the cemetery itself. The one thing that I noticed that was conspicuously absent was a Texas historical sign which you would normally see at older graveyards like this. The cemetery would've been located on the outskirts of Austin in the 1800s, but is of course now surrounded by urban growth. There are quite a number of graves from the 1800s but there are recent burials as well. It is relatively well-maintained and there was even an information booth explaining who is buried where. This cemetery appears to be about 5 acres in size and has hundreds of graves. Many of the graves are from the turn of the 20th century or before, but there are a handful of newer ones. I did find a couple of graves from 2020. Despite looking pretty full, it appears there is still room for those who would like to be interred here. Plenty of pictures below with more information.

This is another one of those cemetery plots in the Austin area that just seem to show up out of…read morenowhere in the middle of a residential area. This cemetery sits at the end of a cul-de-sac on Teton Drive, which is just a few blocks from US 183 on Ohlen Road. Sadly, the cemetery which sits on less than an acre is in a shambles and in a very disorganized state. It is completely surrounded by residential homes on all sides, but this would've been in the middle of nowhere at the turn of the 20th century, which is how old some of these markers are. There are many older headstones here blended in with some newer ones as recently as 2020. Most of the cemetery is primarily green space with lots of toppled over headstones. That leads me to believe there may be many people buried at this location which may have had wooden markers at one time which have long since decayed away. Why there are some recent interments amongst these much older ones in such a dilapidated and disorganized cemetery is beyond me. I suspect this may be a African-American cemetery. Unfortunately, at this time, it does not appear that any attempt has been made to restore any of the fallen or broken headstones. At least the photos below will be added to Google maps.

There are 172 burials at the cemetery that have been documented at findagrave.com. Other documents and websites include various information about burials and family members. The Find a Grave listings include some images of the people buried there and their grave markers, obituaries, and death certificates. The cemetery, once in an open field, was surrounded by the Wooten neighborhood when it was established; eventually the high fence was added. Note: The church's website shows its name as "St. Paul." On Find a Grave, the cemetery is listed as "St. Pauls." The sign on the cemetery fence reads "St. Paul's Baptist Church."
