I selected the Small Farmhouse breakfast which consisted of sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and a slice of toast with butter and jam. My husband selected the Farmhouse breakfast which had the same ingredients but twice as much. Of special note are the sausages which were very meaty and that the breakfast was cooked to perfection with none of the grease that can often be present. They also serve a full range of hot drinks so I was able to select a decaf latte. The menu includes some sandwich-type options and there were a few scones etc. for those who don't have our appetites. Service was fast for us. We arrived soon after they opened so only about 4 tables were already filled, so I cannot speak to service speed when they are busy, but they looked to have plenty of staff on duty. The reviews appeared to be good on both but sometimes you just never know with reviews. However, this time I'm happy to report that both sites were correct. Bill's was absolutely busy when we stepped in for a late breakfast/early lunch timeframe. We were greeted promptly and sat at a table for two. To our delight, we were able to order from both the breakfast or lunch menus, so that is what we did. My husband got the full breakfast and I got chicken entree with vegetables. Service was attentive and prompt. It shows that they are a good chain restaurant because of the care and organization that is evident in how they run their establishment. Decor is comfortable and interesting and I was glad to see servers working hard - not just standing around. While we don't come down this way to Newbury often, if we ever do again (and we may to go to Winchester Cathedral) we'll probably make Bill's our stop and go to for good food. A paid car park is around the block and close by so no worries on parking either.

This is quite a big barge and seats about 20 people comfortably, offering a great range of cream teas, sandwiches, breakfasts and drinks. A little quaint, traditional barge tea shop. The cups and saucers are just fabulous and the coffee mugs are varied - all adding to the variety and experience of this wonderful place. The tea is served in leaf form so you have your own strainer, which is really cool! I opted for a full breakfast today which was just right! Unfortunately they had ran out of bacon but I got an extra sausage for that! Locally sourced food which was cooked perfectly from the kitchen you can see at the end of the barge. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, offering their advice and explaining the food options as well. The service was excellent and relaxed. The most important part of finishing the meal is the separation of the bill, especially in a group. However they offered to spilt this and each of us pay separately, this worked great! Overall, this is place is highly recommended for anytime of the day, relaxing on the Thames, in wonderful surroundings, watching the swans swim by.

It was super busy and I had to wait longer than last time, but it wasn't just me, I was surrounded by others like me who patiently waited for tables to free up. I was impressed by the manager who kept checking in with patrons who were waiting and I reckon it's service like that which keeps people coming back, apart from the great food of course :) They didn't have the Jaffa cake I had noticed last time, but this time I took a brownie cake as a takeaway!
