Coming home from spring break I ran over something on the highway that damaged one of my tires. I was 2 hours from home still, we found our way to Choisser auto services near closing time on a Friday. They helped me right away, took care of my tire and had me back on my way home in no time. They went above and beyond by checking all my tires, including my spare to ensure I didn't have any other tire issues. Everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. I used to like this place, until I didn't. They know I do most of the easy maintenance on my own vehicles, as you should, if you can and have the time. Ie. Air filters, oil changes, even brakes. The first problem was getting an oil change I didn't have time to do. I have an easy access panel on an after-market skid plate, that they over torqued the bolts, and when I went to do it myself, I couldn't get it off. I took it back to them (after I went to do my own and realized the bolt was stripped) and told them to get the stripped bolt out and replace it and do an oil change since I'm not taking the whole steel skid plate down myself just to change the oil when the point of the access panel is to make it simple. They returned my vehicle. Never fixed it. They took off the entire skid plate and now left a bolt out of the skid plate completely. Next, called to ask for a brake quote. I did my own last time (cross-drilled rotors for cooling in traffic), but have much heavier tires now and can't get the things back on solo. They won't replace the pads without the rotors. Um, I just did them and just need pads. Maybe they're mad I do some of the work myself? or maybe they're just getting cranky, but I've taken both my vehicles there since I moved here. Now I'm looking for another place. Ps. There used to be a blonde lady who worked there that was awesome and friendly. Now you just get nasty comments when you ask them to fix something they broke. read more

My son and I dropped off his 2005 Ford Escape because of a bad alternator. He didn't trust the shop that just replaced it(went bad in a day) so we looked for one that got rave reviews. Good plan? Long story, shot: They claimed the transfer case had to be removed in order to replace the alternator and the part would cost ~$500 and labour ~$1500. More than $2000 to replace a part that retails for less than $300 and an insane amount for labour that only requires about 1.5 hours according to the Ford Service Manual. It does not require removal of anything related to the transfer case at all. It requires the R/F wheel and axle be removed and then the alternator. They claimed that is impossible and that their "Ford Master Tech" has never heard of such a thing. I suggest he try reading the Ford Service Manual. I guess they have to make their $$ somehow, but they're not ripping off my son. I'll do it myself in the driveway...I tried to avoid working outside in the cold, but so be it. Good luck to anyone who goes to this place. My son ended up paying ~$70 for their "diagnostic" which had no basis in reality. read more

My Toyota Prius was not heating the interior cabin so I asked Choisser to diagnose the problem and repair. The "technician" said a bad thermostat was the cause. They charged me $ 500.00 but didn't fix the problem -still no heat. Next they said it needed a coolant diverter control valve for an additional $500.00, so I decided to call it quits. Had difficulty understanding a $500 difference in estimates that were obtained for comparison from area shops. One estimate being from a dealer was $400 less, with three hours less service charged. Same job, same parts, different time and labor requirements? Does not add up. Ended up going to the dealership after researching approx 10-15 pricing websites (1 was recommended by the owner himself). Despite having a claim of great customer service/experience, it's just tough to understand the justification of that big of a pricing gap. Do your homework folks, especially if things just do not seem to add $$ up. read more

Excellent in every possible way! My car overheated 45 miles from home and I (thankfully) selected Choissier to have my car towed to. From my first phone call, their #1 priority was my safety and how they could help. We didn't arrive until after the shop was closed but the Service Advisor Chris had not only waited but offered me a lift to the metro so I could get closer to home, completely out of his way. I was contacted with a quote early the next morning that was fair and transparent and the work was quickly completed... including several test drives to make sure it would be safe for me to get home. Additionally, I had just had related service done on the car prior to the overheating and needed documentation for the other repair shop. Not the place to go for Maryland State Inspections. They did a very thorough job and staff is very nice but way too nitpicky! They failed my car for rust on the brake lines but they don't do that type work so had to go somewhere else. Took it to another shop specifically to have the brake lines replaced and they basically refused to do it. They said it was a waste of their time and my money. They couldn't believe Choisser would fail me for that after they inspected the brake lines and "guaranteed" me no other inspection station would fail the car for that amount of rust. So I took it to another inspection station and it passed with flying colors, no mention of the rust on the brake lines. I told Choisser what the other shop said but they wouldn't budge on their assessment. Choisser seems to have great reviews for other services but stay away from them for Maryland safety inspections. read more

This was my first visit to Choisser's for diagnostics on my car. They were professional & courteous and extremely thorough. I suspected I needed brakes and was pleasantly surprised that their testing revealed I did not. They were honest, provided me with pictures documenting what they'd found.
