Just like GFL this company is beginning to fail in their service. Twice in the last 3 months they failed to empty on one of my trash receptacles. I call twice that same day, they said they would come back and do so by the end of the day but never did. This is beginning a trend of failure just like I experienced with GFL that caused the switch. read more

I started with Choice because of a door-to-door request. I found them honest, dependable and way cheaper than the service I was using. There was a 33.00 difference in price for a 3-month service. They also gave me 3 months free for signing up for their service. They notify you because of weather or holidays. I am 71 and without a car, so I am unable to get to the county convenience site. Yes I was skeptical at first but they have more then proven they are here for the cutomer. This company is one of the few right decisions I have made in the past couple of years. Based on my experience I would recommend them. As in all decisions ask questions, get it in writing and make sure you understand the terms. Their door to door salespeople have a very predatory set up and will sign you up even if you say no; I recommend telling them to leave immediately, and call the police if they don't. A salesman came by my house, in June of 2025, asking if I wanted to sign up for Choice Waste Services. I told him explicitly, no, I did not have the money or want to pay for trash services as they are included in my rent. He was very persistent, and asked if he could have my information in case I changed my mind. I reluctantly gave my name and phone number so he would leave. A few weeks later a Choice Waste can showed up on my property. Evidently he went ahead and signed me up for services despite me saying I did not want them. The can sat unused on my property until Choice Waste came and retrieved it, around October. Now, in February of 2026, I am receiving a $65 late fee. They did not send a bill prior to that; they waited until it had accrued the largest late fee possible. Had I received a bill prior I would have called to cancel services. When I called them, they were able to take the late fee portion off, but the supervisor Jose was very short with me and said that it was on me for not calling, despite the fact that I told the salesman from the jump I was not going to sign up. Now I have no choice (no pun intended) but to pay an $18 bill for a service I did not want and never used, unless I want my credit to be impacted. Great "small local business" practices guys! Unbelievable. They took over or merged (with American hauling) I don't really know because I was never told my trash service was being switched until it was switched. I asked if they would honor my arrangement that I previously had due to complications with where my trash bins needed to be placed. They told me they would need to do a survey and get back with me and that it would be at least 2-3 days. Now take into consideration that my trash hasn't been picked up for almost 3 weeks now. GREAT. To make matters even better, I don't even know how much they are charging me because they never told me. This is only one issue I have with this company and the other issue really %$#^$%& me off. They don't provide back door services. So if your elderly or family members are and can't or are unable to get there cans to the curb they are SOL. They WILL NOT provide even the smallest courtesy to your elderly family members to get there trash for them if cans cannot be taken to the curb. You ask how I know this? They answer the phone when you call, it's a crazy idea in this day and age! plus, the drivers take extra items if you set things aside of the cans. Finally, I missed garbage day one day and the truck came back after all of their runs!! Just amazing service! read more

During 2022 and earlier years, I used Choice Waste Services for my weekly trash removal. Early on, they provided regular services and then they began to miss pick-ups. After several complaints with a mixed response, I was forced to change my service provider. In February 2023, I cancelled Choice and requested that they remove their trash bin. It took several requests for them to remove the trash bin and they continued to charge me for their trash removal service during this period and beyond even though I was essentially providing them with storage of their trash bin for the period. When I discussed this matter with them, the only response I received was that there was nothing in writing; therefore, be sure to create a paper trail with this company. read more

Got my invoice for May - July. included was a recycling charge for June even though recycling service doesn't begin until July. When I inquired about this, I was not given any explanation. Presumably, all customers got this extra little charge and most likely didn't notice it. read more

I switched to these people from County Waste. Yes, they are cheaper for the dmsame stuff. BUT...... BEWARE OF THE FOLLOWING: They want you to sign up for a 3 year contract that is in itself OK. But they ask you to sign up BEFORE they send you the contract online. I asked about if I needed a mattress picked up... She said "I think it's about the same as County. About fifty dollars". It wasn't. It was FIFTY DOLLARS PER ITEM. If I could get out of this I would. So..... BEWARE OF WHAT THEY TELL YOU. GET THE CONTRACT FIRST. We were thinking of moving out of state way before this. We have had the service for several years, mostly well pleased. Several years ago our trash was not picked up on Wednesday even though it was out Tuesday night. No biggie, mistakes happen. We had no more problems until this week. Again, I put our can by the drive way on Tuesday afternoon. It was not picked up on Wednesday. When I called the woman answering the phone said, according to the Driver Record he was at your house the 0834 Wednesday morning. I said, how do you explain him not picking up my trash,no explaination, So I asked another question, how do you explain them not picking up the trash of anyone on my street,again no explanation. Yesterday by 1530 it still had not been picked up. When I called I was told that we were on the list to be picked up yesterday and it was just before 1600. Again, I asked why it was not picked up Wednesday. I was told that according to GPS/the Dispatch sheet the Driver was there Wednesday at 0834 and GPS does not lie. So I said, explain to me again why it was not picked up Wednesday. She again mentioned the GPS. Once again I asked to explain why nobody on the street had their trash picked up. She said I cannot speak for the rest of the street but we show our driver was at your house Wedneday. We also had a phone message which I missed yesterday that said according to their records the driver was here Wednesday. None of this makes sense. I know this is long but let me add, I asked one of My neighbors today. He said he did not put out his trash this week but he as well as me could see that no one on the street had their trash picked up on Wednesday, read more

DO NOT GET THIS. If you are not wanting to pay the extra for the county/city. PLEASE reconsider. The underhanded actions of this company are not worth the "savings". I called back in January, to tell them I was moving and would no longer be in need of services. They then informed me that I'm in a AUTOMATICALLY, SELF RENEWING 3 YEAR CONTRACT. And that the only way to sever this contract or STOP it from renewing itself - was to send a handwritten letter with; my name, residential service address, reason for cancellation, last date of service, and forwarding address. Well, as insane and as shady as I thought this was. I sent the letter. I moved. And went about my business. I called today to check on the status... as I had not received anything to my new address stating it was cancelled and they are CLAIMING they never received my letter. I know mail is behind due to COVID. And I'm a very understanding person. But this has been well over a month. And it feels like blatant robbery. They then had the nerve to tell me they wanted to collect their cans since I was no longer at the address (so they can redistribute them to another home). Which means they would be DOUBLE charging for these cans, while REFUSING to cancel my "contract". I will be mailing it directly through the post office with proof of sending instead of just placing in my mail box. But if I can save just ONE person from this UNSCRUPULOUS business. I've been with this company for long time. They have been increasing the price in the last 2 years steadily (additional $15 per quarter). I sent the payment, and they didn't receive it, so they picked up the garbage can. They tried to charge me $25 to re-activate the account. I called them back because my bank told me the check was cleared, but they still said that they haven't receive the payment. They are still making charges to the account for late fees ($7.50) that I never agree upon. They don't provide a list of charges and I don't have a contract. Looking for a new company. read more

Nice people. Always on time and no problems. They are not the least expensive so check around for other prices, after all it's just trash. The one very irritable issue I had was when, I needed a open dumpster of 30 yds. I was ripping the up the lumber from my old deck. I called several companies, including my trash company, Choice. The best price came from an independent vendor who only deals with these bulk items. Ok here is the itch, the dumpster arrived, with a $100 savings. The big name on the side was Choice. So the vendor saved me $100 on a dumpster from my trash company. This is just wrong. read more

I read the other reviews, and am not sure if it is fair to rate this business low because they do not pick up in the backyard. If they forget to pick up then call them. I am also not entirely in agreement with the other poor reviews based on my own experience, which has been very good. That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion on these types of sites. I used Duck's Disposal, then County Waste, and I thought County Waste was awful, because they kept raising their rates every three to six months. Then I used a small local business, and they were absolutely horrible, not picking up on certain dates and not notifying customers, they would forget to pick up at least once a month, they would pick up leaf bags sometimes and other times not - very inconsistent and unpredictable. Choice Waste has been responsive and consistent and the price is very competitive. They notify customers about holidays and delays and they will correct any issues. They close at 5:00 p.m. during the week and today I had an issue with my pick up. I called around 5:15 p.m., and received a call back at 5:30 p.m. This rarely if ever happens when you contact a business after hours and they reach out to you. They are coming back tomorrow to pick up the rest of the waste, because a box had prevented them from emptying my waste bin. I was asked in the future to break down and leave boxes outside of waste bin which is an easy solution all around. All I ask is to have reliable service at a reasonable price. I think that Choice Waste has met this expectation, and in addition to that they have demonstrated to me based on this recent set of circumstances that they value their customers. read more

I just want to let anyone moving into the Midlothian area of Chesterfield county that choosing "Choice Waste Services" is one of the most important decisions you'll make. They are THE best waste service in this entire area. I have neighbors who use other services and their trash sits in front of their houses for days sometimes without any communication from their company on why they didn't show or when they'll be there. I know this because my neighbor is one of them and we've had discussions about it. Many don't pick up on holidays and well, God knows when they'll show up. Just, whenever they want to. Choice is different. Not only are the always prompt, but they will pick up on almost any occasion regardless of the holiday and even in those rare circumstances where a holiday falls on their pick up date, they'll text their customers and let them know when they'll be showing up. And by the way, the only time I've experiences them not coming on a day they were supposed to after living in this area for a year was Thanksgiving day. Why? Because they wanted to make sure their employees had time with their families. If you can't love a company like that, I don't know what kind of company you'll love. Not only is the great service incredible, but their rates are competitive with their counterparts and in many cases even lower. You always get more than you paid for with this incredible company. I love this company! I have been with them for a couple of years now and have always been pleased with their level of professionalism and service. Today I missed my pick up and I called the company. The customer service rep was so polite. She tracked down the driver and discovered he was around the corner from my house and stated she would send him back but I had to "hang up the phone and run" to put my canister out. We chuckled about it but that is exactly what I did lol and a few minutes later they were there in front of my house waving and smiling! I so appreciated this. She could have said sorry we will catch you next week but she took the time to provide me with exceptional customer service. Thank you so much. I wish I had gotten her name to personally thank her. I called and asked about them removing a mattress prior to my next pick up. Supposedly, the landfill won't let them dump mattresses there. Their website needs to be update to reflect that they only pick up household TRASH and not bulk items. read more

This company was good until they would pick up my trash and not all my leaf bags that was required when I complained they really didn't come back to pick up my leaves. They claimed bags were too heavy, and that I had to put them in the container myself and they would be back that day. Two (2) days later, no leaf pick up.
