First time I checked out this place it was with a friend, who purchased the demello coffee beans they were selling at the time. They have since ceased sales of the coffee and are strictly Chocolate de kat. In and around my first visit, my friend purchased the pistachio raspberry bon bon and I had to go back, within that week I returned and purchased the same one. IT WAS HEAVEN! The chocolate bon bons... Bons bons seem to be all the rage these days... I prefer truffles tbh and while tasty these bon bons are, I gotta say I likely will not be getting them anytime soon again. I will admit there is an artistry to creating such pretty, perfect round chocolate treats... The images in their legend booklet describing the flavours look identical to the bon bons when they are halfed... Such an art I tell ya! Today I purchased, a Stollen, a Florentine, Salted Caramel, Salted Pistachio and Raspberry Dark. The Stollen had a bit of alcohol in it. Not a fan of that aspect of it, yet it was tasty. Gingerbready and delicious. I wish I would've known about the alcohol though. The Florentine was nutty, fruity, salty and imo well balanced. Salted caramel, is hard to mess up... Very delicious! The salted pistachio was noticeably pistachio-ey yet could've also used an extra punch of pistachio flavour. It's got to be strong man! And saving the best for last.... That Raspberry Dark was my favourite by far and the only one worth purchasing especially at over $2.00 a pop. With that being mentioned, they cost a pretty penny. Being a specialty chocolate, it can be expected. A box of 4 comes out to $13.50 or so and the one individual I got cost $3.50... yikes. Perhaps because 2 of them being seasonal flavours (Florentine and stollen) they are priced a little higher... Oh captilasim and turning a dollar at Xmas time... What joy! Either way I would not have known had I not experienced any of this. So I am happy I purchased them afterall. Also their raspberry pistachio, one of their classics is another favourite of mine that is worth the investment. It wasn't available today yet when it is, that one is an absolute MUST! All the best and enjoy!

Hefty without being heavy, flavours varied and complex, each one packing a chewy wallop as you bit into them. My only quibble is that they were all a bit to caramel-y for me, but that's just a matter of personal taste rather than a critique on the quality or concoction. These brigadeiros are definitely the bomb.

The instructions said 4tbsp for mild and 6tbsp for intense. I went 5tbsp. The hot chocolate was very cocoa first, rich and delicious, not too sweet.

I've only had their chocolate bars (where you can find them at select places around the city) as well as their soft serve during the summers. Their store is small where there is no seating. Upon entering, you are met with a display of bonbon chocolates. To the side they have a wall full of their chocolate bars and they also have a freezer with their ice creams/soft serves as well. Their bonbon flavours are quite unique, many of them being Asian flavours (think tangerine jasmine, ume black sesame, coconut pandan, Ovaltine, tom yum lemongrass, White Rabbit, salted egg, durian, Pei Pa Kao (if you know you know!)). Their chocolate bars also are quite unique as well like the mi goreng (Indonesian fried noodle), durian, hojicha, and caramel pork floss). I had their soft serve last year which was a lemongrass gelato with yuzu/caramel & jasmine tea agar jelly. This year when I went, they had toasted milk with Pei Pa Kao (regular cup is $6.50, a mini cup is $5). Such interesting and unique pairings, something I've never had before (especially pair the Pei Pa Kao with ice cream haha!). Overall, a chocolate gem in East Chinatown. I ended getting the 16-piece assorted box and they were $57! I have to say this was one of the most unique and memorable chocolate experiences I had. Each piece felt like a mini adventure, combining bold, unexpected flavors you wouldn't normally associate with chocolate-- but they work beautifully. Standouts for me were the dragonfruit black sesame, Thai tea, and tom yum lemongrass. The craftsmanship behind each flavor is incredible, yet somehow addictive. These chocolates is something to savor slowly. Don't pop these like candy-- smell it, feel it, look at it, and taste it slowly.... Also I love the color on each individual ones!! Makes me not want to eat it. Shoutout to the chocolatier, such an incredible experience! I'll be back!

Soma chocolate maker is by far one of the best chocolatiers I've tried in the city. The flavors they have available for truffles and chocolate bars really make it a sensorial experience. It was HARD to not try and get every single thing they have -- including the hot chocolate and ice cream flavors. If they have it available, you MUST try the comet. there's just something so dreamy about chocolate and fruit. the comet is essentially a macadamia nut covered by milk chocolate, pistachios, passion fruit flavors, and dusted in cacao powder. I'm literally gonna go back before they close in an hour just to get a couple more to take home for friends! It's THAT good! We also tried a few truffles like the cacao nib, milk chocolate almond, and yuzu with white chocolate all in all, if you're looking for quality, thoughtfully crafted chocolates -- either for yourself, a lover, or to gift, I strongly reco stopping by.

Overall, it seems more like a takeout spot to grab and take to with you. They have a selection of coffee and hot chocolate to choose from as well. Purdys no matter how it's ordered (online or by phone) manages to send me chocolates that I didn't order in my mix and match EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY GET THE ORDER WRONG! And I have to give away those chocolates. One of my friends bought me the coconut mango cream filled chocolates $12 for the 5 pack. I went to exchange it. I found out they have a NO RETURN/EXCHANGE POLICY. The clerk stated, "even if you just bought it and changed your mind, I can't even exchange it for you." For chocolates as expensive as these are I would expect better. That's the worst policies for a high end chocolatier I've heard of. I would expect you to stand by your products, not tell your customers to suck up your distasteful failed chocolate "creations". My last reason for shopping here was the sustainable cocoa farming they spout about on the website, fooling into believing they have some ethical framework they follow. This unfortunately doesn't go as far as putting any efforts into stopping child labour from their cocoa producers. Hopefully we can grow a conscience, because with the prices you charge, you can afford to act ethically.

This Purdy's location is pretty busy because of the foot traffic in the mall. It also keeps longer hours than the one at Sheppard Center. I think they need more staff! There was only one lady there to take orders so people had to wait. This location also has ice cream, which is popular with kids of course. That makes it more busy than usual. Anyway, the experience was perfectly fine. I waited only a little while & then was served. I will say that I was expecting the chocolates to be put into a small box but they put it into a bag instead. A box would have been nicer. The chocolates are a bit pricey but I was okay with that.

The best place for filled chocolates!…read more A day before valentine's day, this year I decided to try this place for a gift for my partner. Glad to finally try this well-reputed little chocolatier! I tried coming here a few days prior after work, but I couldn't find a parking and gave up. Street parking is only available until 4pm on Queen S E. So I came here around lunch time. The store was full of customers with the same purpose! They got pre-packaged gift boxes (mixed with milk, dark and white chocolate with more milk kinds), but I wanted to select on my own as my partner loves dark. I picked 12pcs. Here are the memorable ones. # Cupidon (dark chocolate ganache) : Simplest but best!!!! If you like dark, it is a must try. # Grand Marnier: Dark chocolate filled with super light Grand Marnier flavored whipped butter cream, with chunky nuts. Yummmmm!! # Truffle: Dark chocolate truffle filled in cocoa powder - loaded with cocoa flavor. So smooth. Loved it! # Scotch: Be prepared. It has real scotch inside. Don't bite. Liquor runs on tongue as chocolate melts. Eyeopening and delish! #Rum: Same as above! # Tresor : white chocolate truffle cream, classic. # Iresh Cream: Super creamy filling. # Moka: OMG. Usually milk chocolate is not my favourite but this one is excellent. Mild milk chocolate (outside) releasing cacao flavour then I met really really smooth buttercream coming out next. Delicate....! # Citron: Rich lemon buttercream is perfectly matching the dark chocolate. # Caramel : Smooth, not sticky! The dark chocolate shell brings out the sweet caramel flavour. Another delicate one. All the filled chocolate had thin shell and smooth fillings. Flavour of the shell (dark, milk and white) is delicately matched with the character of the fillings. I personally think their buttercream ones are excellent with super smooth texture. What I liked most about this place was that their texture is not monotone. I did not get bored at all. Appreciated each pieces flavour and delicacy. Highly highly recommended!
