I wish I read reviews of this place before walking in... I was working in the area and was craving a bagel and cream cheese. It was about 10am when I walked in with my coworker. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese and some type of pastry with mushroom filling. I had high expectations of Chocolatte and the shop was adorable. I waited and waited... waited some more after paying. The guy behind the counter tells me they ran out of bagels. It's 10am and I've been waiting for 15 mins for you to toast a bagel and spread cream cheese on it. He asks if he could substitute it with the house baguette. I said sure! At this point I'm starving and angry. The guy taking my order should've known if they ran out of ingredients. Actually the shop is tiny, every staff should've known. Baguette with cream cheese: Poorly made and where's the cream cheese??? That is not a schmear. I gave half to my coworker and I'm not sure what she did with it. Mushroom pastry: Pastry was flaky, but the mushroom filling was super salty. The pastry was cold too. I wish I walked a bit further down the block because other bakeries were filled with customers and bagels lined the windows.

The customer service is great. You will always find a friendly barista at Chocolatte. The food is amazing. The coffee is the best in Crown Heights. But if you order food make sure to tell them you want salt and pepper (if you want it) because on certain things they don't add it because some people don't want it. The great thing about this place is you can custom order things the way you like them. So for example today I ordered my caesar salad with no croutons light dressing and with avocado on top.

This is an accessible, pleasant coffee shop located inside the Jewish Children's Museum (and in the heart of the Jewish community of Crown Heights). The space is bright and airy, decorated with Illy products and clocks showing the time in various cities around the world (Jerusalem, Milan, Paris, Rio...), a flatscreen showing nothing but nature scenes, and Hebrew pop music playing over the soundsystem. They have every coffee drink anyone could ever want, and I appreciated the fresh mint they added to my tea. I have yet to try the more substantial food options (sandwiches, salads, etc.), but I can report that they have plenty of decent snacks available (pastries, Kind Bars, Naked Juices, and more). $3.75 is bit steep for a plain croissant, but perhaps kosher croissants cost more. I don't really know. Chocolatte also boasts free wi-fi, but there is limited (but comfortable) seating and the counter is a bit higher than ideal for laptopping. Although, I can't blame them if it's purposeful, and they don't want the likes of me sitting there all day long.

Where do I even start? First off, I tried to call the store to make an order. However, the guy on the phone, for whatever apparent reason, did not want to take my order, told me to order online, and then hung up on me. I went on their website, but it was glitchy on my phone, so I ended up walking to the store. When I got there, there were people in the store giving me rude stares and talking about me.. Why, because I was not Jewish and I had red hair and tattoos? A great way to feel welcome. Great customer service. So I gave my order, and waited awkwardly in the store. I took my order and left. When I had gotten home, I looked at the order, and they had given me rotten avocados and old olives. They had also given me two eggs, instead of the three that was specified online, and those two eggs were not even cooked properly. If you are not Jewish, don't even bother coming to the store because they will give you horrible customer service and give you the left overs that they wouldn't give to somebody that was Jewish. I wasted $16 at this store. Thanks, no thanks.

Excellent place to have a Latte, coffee, green salad, sandwich and milkshake, Starbucks kosher style. Located in the Jewish Children's Museum building and have additional seating outside.

I chose to visit Chocolatte on Thanksgiving morning prior to making a long train trip to far western New Jersey. It has a very convenient location next to the Kingston Avenue subway station. I was fascinated by the vibrancy of the bustling Jewish community as opposed to my homogeneous South Florida suburban neighborhood. I found the staff to be quite friendly and I didn't feel any discrimination because I'm not Jewish. We just had coffee and it was quite good. I liked being able to order an espresso shot to add to it. I thought the seating inside was too cramped so we opted for a sidewalk table. Although it was cold out (by my Miami standards) the entertaining "street theater" more than made up for it. I'll be trying this place again on my next visit.

I went with two friends so were able to try three different sandwiches and to be honest, they were all just alright. The food: Roast Pork Special- Fried Eggplant, Provolone, Broccoli Rob- The texture of the pork came off a bit dry, the eggplant was good but kinda gets lost in the sandwich so if I literally had it on it's own I would have appreciated it more but who eats fried eggplant by itself? The rob was nice it added a nice crunch but didn't offer that much flavor. Giuseppe Special- Eggplant parm, meatballs, melted mozzarella. I couldn't get over how soggy the bread was. It was like wet paper towel to me. Soggy bread and everything kinda tasting the same made it underwhelming. Nicky Special- It just tasted like salad in between bread. There was so much veg, that was the main thing I remember in that sandwich.

There's a cooler with drinks and salads as you enter on the right. The sandwiches, however, are something special. On my first visit I went with something familiar, the Mean Streets (their Italian sandwich). The bread itself is fantastic (locally baked), and the toppings delicious as well (if I recall correctly the dressings are house made). Pleasantly, they also give you a paper plate with your order, which is a nice touch compared to eating off a wrapper. I enjoyed the first sandwich so much I came back the next day to try the No Sleep Til Gravesend. And one of the greatest chefs I've ever had the pleasure to know. And I've known my share of cats who made their livings and their names in a kitchen. From the very first day I discovered Brancaccio's I felt a magic a connection that I knew would change my life, make my belly really f--kin' happy and set my soul a-dancin'. On that first day Joe and I talked about the great food of NY; most of it gone but not forgotten by those who were of the time. We both lamented the lose of the legendary Zito's bakery on Bleecker. I can't tell you how long it had been since I'd ran into someone who even remembered Zito's much less was intimate with the place. I knew I was home. This was well over a decade ago. I won't go into specific things on Joe's menu that are worth trying because quite literally... everything is amazing. It just is! Soul satisfying beyond my ability to do justice to. I'd also like to throw out as an example of the humanity of the joint and it's capt. Joe... Joe treats his employees with respect, R E S P E C T as Aretha belted, dignity and the aforementioned humanity which is beautiful and virtually non-existent these days as far as I can see... and you can taste it in his food. That's just a big-ass Right On! Finally I like to say two or three things: First that as I initially identified myself as "used to being a regular" as and this is by no means a boo-hoo thing simply a fact... I fell pretty ill for a while and am just now beginning my reentry into the world. And as a matter of fact during the recent drag of days for me a thought kept slamming into the walls of my head and that was that I couldn't wait to once again sink my teeth into Joe's food. Well that day is here and I'm salivating at the thought. "I'll take one of everything my man!" Secondly, understand I've never written anything like this... I'm actually down on the whole review culture. So if this sounds at all "over the top"... or written by a cousin who Joe owes money to, get that thought right out of your head. All of I said is sincere and one from the heart. And lastly an additional "oh yea baby" to Joe's taste in music.

The owner has the typical New Yorker vibe--blunt and a fun character overall. We went with the chicken cutlet with prosciutto, artichoke, fontina, and herb sauce, along with the sausage with cheese and added broccoli rabe. Between the two, I'd get the chicken for sure. It was pretty tasty, but I must say I wasn't as blown away as I'd expected. The sausage sandwich got a bit soggy from all of the marinara (which I wasn't expecting based on the description), so I was less excited about it. It was way too much food for two people. Like one sandwich is plenty for two, but I got greedy with wanting to try too much. We had a ton leftover! I would have probably rated it 3.5 stars, but the German roach running around pained me to see and stole my appetite. I'd want to say I'd come back and try one of those delicious sounding breakfast sandwiches, but roaches are a hard sell for me.
