All you have to do is step in the door and get the fine waffftooo of chocolate essence hit your nose. Its wonderful and a lovely selection of beautifully crafted chocolates. I was eager to try their interpretation of Dubai chocolate so got a bar of that, some almond orange bark, dipped chocolate orange rinds and a hazelnut cappuccino truffle. This would also make a great place to find a special little gift as they take masterful care in presenting their chocolates. Highly reccomend. read more

The most AMAZING vegan Gelato in the world!!!! So decadent and creamy. The chocolate one, the pear, the passionfruit and mango, the strawberry one.... absolutely delectable!!! read more

My husband and I got gelato here while visiting Bellingham, and absolutely loved it! Calla who served us was so kind and helpful throughout our experience! She provided excellent customer service, all while being very genuine and down to earth. The gelato was incredible. The flavors were amazing and you can tell that they do not sweeten them artificially. If we ever make it back to Bellingham someday, we will definitely be going back to visit Chocolate Necessities! read more

Give me a T! Give me an R! Give me a U-F-F-L-E! What does that spell?! TRUFFLE! But who are we kidding? Add an "S" because who can eat just one? And indulge I did recently after a stop at the Chocolate Necessities factory store on the Guide. From the moment I walked into their small chocolate showroom I could smell the sweet deliciousness of wafting out from the adjacent manufacturing facility (and by manufacturing facility I mean the little room in the back where the magic happens). Surrounded by displays of truffles and other deliciousness I beelined my way to the front counter to pick up a special order I'd made for an event later that day. I was handed the most beautiful box of custom truffles, including salted dark chocolate, mint, caramel, and other bite-sized morsels of decadent amazingness. And my event guests later agreed: these succulent treats were all delicious, and the perfect accompaniment to our evening. Little did they know I had seriously considered absconding with the whole box, never to be seen again! read more

So this little hidden gem is well-known amongst the local population. To a tourist driving by on the guide you might notice the sign "chocolate factory " but it's pretty small and easy to miss. If you consider yourself to be a chocolate connoisseur, you simply must pop by when in town. Everything here is super fresh (after all, this is the factory). Whenever we travel to see family and friends out of the area, we stop by to pick up a custom box of truffles the day before we leave. You can choose the size of box /how many pieces and you can choose which pieces to fill it with, milks, darks..every one more heavenly than the last. Then, chose From a dozen tasteful wrapping papers and choose ribbon And you are all Set. Perfect hostess gift as well. Who Doesn't like chocolate? And this is Not your ordinary chocolate by a long shot. The store is small but packed full of all Kinda of goodies, chocolate bars, chocolate coffee, special chocolate shapes etc. I believe you can even order custom Cheesecakes here. Some greeting cards on a rack and lots of small gift cards some of which are hand made. Always pleasant, courteous and helpful employees. read more

Their chocolate creations are even more delicious than they look! I found the perfect, affordable afternoon luxury with a well crafted cappuccino and two truffles. I can recommend both the balsamic caramel and the Tahitian vanilla...and can't wait to eventually try every one. Will make for nice hostess gifts or little treats for friends as well. read more

I was really looking forward to trying a chocolate store as I passed through Bellingham and heard good things about chocolate necessities from my friends I was very disappointed with the overall poor customer service. read more

Found this place by serendipity. Realized I had gone too far to my next destination & was at a stoplight ready to turn around & noticed the sign for this place. It's in a row of industrial buildings with just a small storefront. Oh my gosh! So many choices...bought just a small sample to try but will be going back...for sure! And buy more than a 'sample'. Lovely European style chocolates & worth the price. read more

If you want to experience wonderful chocolate you need to run, not walk, to Chocolate Necessities! Bellingham is home of the world's best!

I have yet to find a better seller of fine chocolates. I love the staff there. I have come to that shop as a chocolate lover, a gift buyer, a baker, and a teacher with a group full of school-age kids. Every time I have been in that shop, I've been greeted and helped immediately. It is a shame I don't live in Bellingham anymore to be able to visit this shop. The staff often puts out samples of their amazing chocolates and are quick with suggestions if you are looking to make a specific type of cookie. The quality of their chocolates cannot be beat. Much of it is imported from Europe and they use Callebaut chocolate in the making of their truffles. You can also buy huge chunks in bulk. The staff also have excellent recipes featuring their chocolate. If you go buy the powdered cocoa, ask about their hot chocolate recipe. It is extraordinary! I like it because it doesn't leave a grainy powdery mess at the bottom of your cocoa cup and the flavor is wonderfully rich and not too sweet. There is also a recipe for peanut butter chocolate chips that is tried and true delicious. The other great thing about Chocolate Necessities is their truffles. I recommend (in the highest) their balsamic vanilla caramels. When I moved away from Bellingham, they were making these and I was getting hooked. To this day I have not tasted any chocolates better than this. Also toward the end of my four years of living in the 'Ham, they started using tea (from the Spice Hut- which is another review entirely) in their truffles. It is in an odd sort of location and you can't see their shop from the road (its a road off the Guide) but if you are a chocolate connoisseur, you should go out of your way to visit this delightful place where chocolate is king! If you're not in the area of Bellingham or Lynden, they also have a website where you can purchase their items. You'll be so glad you supported such a masterful and talented chocolatier! read more

Excellent chocolates, and remarkable customer service. Owner Kevin spent at least 45 minutes with us, giving us taste after taste after taste of the different chocolates that he uses to make his truffles. So generous. The man lives his work, and obviously also really likes people. read more

This is as good as it gets; you won't find better tasting/quality chocolate anywhere else. I lived in Europe for a few years, and I'd rate this place above the chocolatiers I frequented over there. Seriously, this place is amazing. We are lucky to have them in Bellingham!! Also, they serve the BEST hot chocolate in town (probably the state, if not the country!). If you haven't tried it yet, you are missing out. read more

Took my family and friends here over 4th of July. One of my most memorable experiences. The owner wow'd with his knowledge and his hospitality was top notch. We all will definitely be back. He is right on the Guide between Bellingham and Lynden. Stop in and say hello, I guarantee you chocolate bliss!!! read more

When I moved to Olympia in 2014, a friend in Mt Vernon recommended Chocolate Necessities. I began ordering callets as a "breakfast dessert", and as a dietary "necessity". I moved to a another senior residence in 2016, and Chocolate Necessities was undergoing a huge make-over. I lost contact. I haven't found a comparable new source, and today I returned to my favorite chocolatier and placed an order for my four favorite selections. Cooler weather makes shipping easier, even though it's usually only one-day delivery.....south to Olympia. Since chocolate has become a recommended dietary addition (not just ANY chocolate), I'm quite happy to follow that recommendation! read more

This is the first chocolate confectionary I had been to, and I was blown away! My brother and I came in and we order two of their drinking chocolates (not to be confused with hot chocolate). Not only did they look beautiful when they were served to us, but they were the best chocolate-flavored drinks we ever had! And to top it off: the employees and owner are very kind. In fact, when we purchased a gift card, the owner offered us some truffles on the house! We will definitely be coming back here! read more

I absolutely adore the Gelato and the customer service was fast and friendly. The truffles were expensive but also delectable. Even so, I would definitely recommend. read more

I'm online to order some chocolates from this place because I've never had better in my 65 years of flying around the sun. I moved from Bellingham almost five years ago and now get my "fix" only a couple times a year. This time will be the first in over a year as I've got a layover in Seattle of six hours and have convinced my daughter to drive down from Lynden, stop by Chocolate Necessities, and meet me at the airport with my treats. What a great daughter!! What great, great, chocolate!!! Yeah, a little spendy, but there are very few things in life that can't be made a little worse and sold a little cheaper. Those that haven't figured this out know the price of everything but the value of nothing. THIS CHOCOLATE IS VALUABLE!! read more

This is a great chocolate shop! I needed a gift for a friend who "has everything" and wandered in this place after reading the reviews on Yelp. The girl behind the counter was so nice and helped me create a wonderful box of chocolates for $25. She also let me taste the Limetta gelato. Oh my blue heaven, was that amazing! I will definitely go back. Nice atmosphere. Great location. The chocolate was so rich and smooth. read more

I always stop when my son is at a birthday party next door. Best chocolate in Bellingham!

If you are looking for fine chocolates, for a gift, party, etc. Chocolate Necessities is the place to go. They have an amazing selection of various dark and milk chocolates in a variety of styles, flavors, (best of all) shapes! The chocolate is very high quality, rich, and tasty. The chocolate is a little expensive, but it's worth it! read more

I have never in my life had chocolate as rich, smooth, and perfect as this! The owner has traveled the world for the best of the best and you can tell.. It's probably a good thing I live in Portland, or I would be at this delightful shop every day. read more
