This is the second time on our trip that we visited an ice cream shop selling the same brand of Wisconsin ice cream. The creaminess and quality is excellent. This shop only offered about 8 flavors compared to about 24 flavors at the other shop. Six of us, after visiting the National Eagle Center, stopped at the Chocolate Escape for a cold snack. My wife the Mint Extravaganza and I had a combo of cashews, chocolate chunks and caramel in the ice cream flavor. Both were excellent. The establishment also offers many kinds of chocolates and candies for sale. Service was great. read more

5 stars for the service! A surpsingly tasty dirty soy chai. My partner had his first soy latte and was in love. The woman taking our order and making it was just great. Recommendations as well as personality all around. (Which is not what I can say about the young woman working at the ice cream counter). The gift shop is expansive and disjointed. On the cafe side it's tchotchkes and junk really. The Chocolate Escape is an awesome chocolate shop in downtown Wabasha, just a short drive from Highway 61 - well worth the stop! We found this place by chance. Yelp sent us to the business next door, looking for an antique store (Bird-Brains Art & Antiques) that no longer exists. The bright spot in our journey is we found this wonderful chocolate shop next door. This place is truly overwhelming...so many choices!!! And the displays are so beautiful. We also had fun talking to the staff. (I think they might have been owners.) They also gave us some tips on where to find the best antique stores. An awesome experience all the way around! This local sweet & treasure shop is a gem itself. Full of wonderful choices for treats, drinks, and hand crafted gifts, you can spend hours here. My favorite part was the cozy seating on the backside of the store with a fireplace and warm decor. The large windows overlook the river so you don't forget the beautiful city you're in. It's a perfect way to enjoy Wabasha during the winter. I'll be back many times! read more

I bought a package of sea salt dark chocolate caramels and they really were fantastic. What killed the small town experience of a hand made chocolate shop was the fact that there was no one at the counter to say hello to, or have small talk, or even talk about the chocolates. People just kept pacing the glass shelf and around the corners, looking for someone to pop out from the kitchen/restaurant on the other side to help. Kind of odd. But I did walk out with a darn good caramel with delicious bites of salt on top of it. read more

Mixed Feelings Our visit this past fall left a sour taste in my mouth. No, it wasn't from the chocolates or ice cream. It was from the customer service. Being a city of 2,500 people, I would expect a business in Wabasha to be more like something from Mayberry. This business is not. From my experience, half of a business is what they offer, and the other half is how they do it. With the Chocolate Escape, it's not the product; it's the service. My wife was asked for photo I.D. for a $7.00 credit card purchase. While in a big city this may not be an odd request, I found it odd and insulting at best. Unfortunately, I wasn't standing near the register when this occurred -- fortunately for the store. In small tourist towns, a smile and a friendly attitude are essential to a successful business. The Chocolate Escape could use a seminar on customer service, or ask themselves this: "How would you like to be treated?" I don't think carding customers for $7.00 purchases is going to bring them back into the store or generate word-of-mouth business. read more

I bought a bunch of chocolate here that I planned to eat over this whole coming week. It was sort of a lot of chocolate. Its gone now. I ate it all. The sea salt dark chocolate caramels? Gone. All eight of them. The dark chocolate and caramel pretzel sticks? All gone. Even the sweedish fish and the milk chocolate cashew turtle. There gone and they were DELICIOUS. Awesome little place, wish I would have tried the coffee. Recommended. read more

We visited the Chocolate Escape after a late afternoon lunch @ the Flour Mill Pizzaria. The pizzaria & chocolate shop are connected... all my favorites in one place: pizza & beer, & chocolate & coffee. Wow! The Chocolate Escape is located in downtown Wabasha & offers a nostalgic experience to chocolate lovers of all kinds. There are tiny truffles, big truffles, turtles, almond bark, fudge, ice cream, & a coffee shop! Great service, wonderful coffee & deliscious chocolate. Try the tiramisu truffle or the rum truffle! Very, VERY good chocolate but the only thing is it's super expensive. Lots of items to buy so I assume this place is there basically for tourists as opposed to locals. They are connected to a Native American store which is also really interesting. Lots of little trinkets and handmade jewelry. The owner was cool and inviting and the place was really clean. They have a a little dining area which was nice too. read more

Want a Hershey's? Look somewhere else... This place has very authentic chocolates from Africa. I have been here a couple of times and one time we took a tour. The tour was very interesting and informational. I mean, it's a chocolate store and has something for everyone, from dark chocolate to malt chocolate. read more

Amazing hand made chocolates. You could also get some ice cream, cookie...or wine. Not to mention, an education on quality chocolate and the whole process from the owner, Brian. Walk towards the back of the store for your coffee or espresso fix. Coffee brewed just right with a lovely deck out back to relax with your cup of joe! Most definitely a worth while stop! Huge variety of chocolates and treats, even if you don't like chocolate much. Attached is a coffee shop in the back overlooking the river and next to it is the Flour Mill Pizzeria. The neat thing about the shop is that a lot of them are made in their own kitchen and they allow you to sample the chocolate they use. In addition, they have imported chocolate (that was way too dark for me) but still interesting to check out and try. read more

The unfortunate part about this store is that it's very cute and the chocolate is great but the owner doesn't know a thing about customer service. In 1 visit I witnessed him barrate a customer for wanting to use a credit card for less than $10 and then he yelled at me about my kids' sticky fingers - that is ofcourse after they got done eating the chocolates that he sells. I have to be pretty moved to write a review - unfortunately i was not moved in the right direction. After a wonderful day at the Eagle Center my family and I shared a pizza at Flour Mill - four stars for the food and great service. On the wall in the restaurant was a "for sale" ships whistle which during our meal we watched several other adults and kids come by and try via an attached pull cord. I finally said ok to my kids - the restaurant was cleared out by this time - and as my 10 year old son was trying it the guy behind the counter in the candy store - not even in the same room! - came charging in and yanked it out of his hand right in front of us. SO RUDE. When I followed him into the store to ask for an apology he stood arguing with me in front of customers. What kind of Candy Store worker can't tolerate kids? Absolutely ridiculous. I am still fuming. And it's really unfortunate this is now my perception of dumpy Wabasha. DO NOT waste your money here. read more
