Hate to give away NYs best kept secret but this is the best place for handcrafted and innovative chocolate flavors. These are a huge hit for holiday gifts and especially take the advent calendar to a whole nother level :p The Japanese inspired collection was a winner- mango caramel with vanilla bean is my fave.

To find Chocolat Moderne go to 27 east 20th st and travel to the ninth floor. This boutique Chocolatier that makes great stuff. I did a nine piece sampler and the two that I tried were great! Caramel with Bananas and Cognac, and Toffee Banana Ganache. This is better than Stick with Me by far. Nine pieces cost $44, expensive but worth it.

Great chocolates. Wonderful service. You take an elevator to the 9th floor which feels like a boutique chocolate adventure. Open the door to find a pristine operation with a beautiful display. Welcome to the chocolate speakeasy. Free samples and I was sold. Planning to order online next. Highly recommend.

Truly a hidden gem in Flatiron, I would have never found this location without Happy Cow. Located on the 9th floor of 27th West 20th. Sometimes they leave a sign out on the street. 12 beautiful options for vegan. I tried the hazelnut praline which was incredible! Chocolate itself is not too sweet which I like, packed with flavor. I also bought a 24 piece with two of each as a gift. Note some flavors contains liquor. The Joan, chocolatier has been working out of this location for 20 years. She and her associate was so sweet and helpful. You can also order online!

Cannot recommend this hidden gem highly enough! Run by a lovely husband and wife duo, they make some of the best gourmet chocolate I've had in NYC. Forget the overpriced chocolatiers on Fifth Ave, they have amazingly unique and creative flavors at a reasonable price point. Tried the key lime, toffee, and salted caramel - all excellent!

A hidden gem! This place has unique and very flavorful chocolates! Loved the fruit fillings and the presentation is gorgeous. A bit pricey, but very good. Will definitely be back for more!

Yes the Chocolate Moderne is quite pricey but it is worth every pretty penny. The location changed since I last visited but the quality is still supreme. My favorite avant-garde bar is the lover in white chocolate bar, and I don't even like white chocolate! The passion fruit completes the bar albeit I am a sucker for passion fruit. I have tried a couple other things here and have never been disappointed so I will return to buy more gifts from here.

This place has been on my bookmarks for ages, and I finally visited right before Valentine's Day. It's a husband-wife operation, with the former (Jim) behind the retail counter, and the latter (Joan) making the chocolate magic happen. Jim was very patient with us, ensuring the selection process was a special one. They are also generous with samples! Overall, this is a great choice if you want an unconventional shopping experience. Definitely will be back for the baklava chocolate, which they had run out of when we stopped by.

Don't be fooled by the modest setup of this place - it's a hidden gem in the city! It's on the 9th floor of some building, the expectation and excitement build up as the elevator moves up! Lol They have extensive selection of chocolates with unique flavors and artistic designs!

What an amazing little hidden gem this place is. Tucked away on the 9th floor of an office building, one would never know there's a place selling amazing chocolates!!! We were greeted by Jim who was so kind and wonderful enough to tell us all the different types of chocolates on offer. We opted for a couple of different bars of chocolates - they were approx. $9.50 each. Good quality tasty chocolates made on premises. Such a dangerous discovery for a chocolate lover like myself. Thankful this place is not next door to where I live or work as I would probably have to join a gym!

Find Chocolate Moderne on the 9th floor. You're in for a real treat!

My fiancé and I had a lot of fun looking at all of the choices they had. There were some regular flavors like Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate but there were also some fun flavors like Pumpkin Spice, Milk Chocolate Sea Salt. On top of all of this, there is an option of prepackaged Lindt chocolates as well as different chocolate barks by the entrance. Definitely a fun thing to do with your friends as well!

They're also across the street from a flagship Ghirardelli store, which they also own, if you aren't aware. In general, I find Lindt too sweet, but that is also coming from someone who is a dark chocolate lover. For this location specifically, the staff here are friendly and give samples, which is a plus. Anyway, if you're wondering why you'd want to stop here instead of just going to the literal CVS around the corner which sells their products, you can customize stuff better here, and there are many more options. Along with the standard truffles they are famous for, there are flavors available only at this location, as well as seasonal ones. Some current ones include shortbread, made with milk chocolate, as well as a snickerdoodle, which I didn't realize was made with white chocolate, or else I wouldn't have purchased that one (it was still tasty,) and others. The truffles are around 62¢ post-tax for a single one, so it's a little cheap and tasty treat. Outside of truffles, there are bars, some fancier chocolates, and bark, among many other things. Of course, there's a Dubai option like every other chocolatier in case you want to purchase a cheapo version here. Obviously, the chocolates in general are not as high-quality as Läderach, Li-Lac, and other spots, but they are at very different price points, so that's to be expected. The latter spots are more artisanal, while this is a step up from Hershey's "chalk-olate" and other cheaper brands. If you're looking to buy a gift without paying an exorbitant price but still want a step up from Hershey's or similar places, I would recommend going here.

The great reviews and overall rating along with the fact they had an emphasis on sour beers (my wife's favorite style of beer) made it a no brainer. Also as you have likely seen they are a women-owned operation so another positive. We did mistakingly walk by it at first but quickly found it. It's a beautifully designed space and more unique than your typical brewery space. Also speaking of they have lots of drinks other than beers, including wines, ciders, cocktails, coffee and a couple NA beers. Due to the impending storm they were closing early but my wife and I each got a beer. I got their New England IPA called Sun Up which was citrusy and juicy with a touch of bitterness/hoppy notes. Then my wife got their fruited sour Peach Berry Punch that definitely had a punch of pink guava and peach but the berry was more subtle. Two great beers with plenty of other styles available too. Service was friendly with a smile and took no time to get our beers. Such a positive experience we plan on returning to give their cocktails a try! An absolute must visit for beer lovers who find themselves near Bryant Park! (Also non-beer lovers since they offer so much more too.)

I am a devotee of dark chocolate, and have tried every dark offering it has. Each is superb, even flavor combinations I haven't historically adored (like orange and chocolate - I know it's popular, but it's just not my favorite). That said, my personal favorite is the Anastasia, a hazelnut and dark praline enrobed in dark chocolate. It is exquisite. Service is always excellent. I've ordered in person and over the phone, and have always been so pleased with the staff. The website is helpful when ordering a variety, but if you'd like an entire box of Anastasia, for example, you have to call the Rockefeller Center store and place the order by phone. They ship once a week, and I always have my box fairly quickly. Boxes make terrific gifts ... including for yourself. If you're walking in, I recommend sitting down to enjoy a few pieces of chocolate, then taking the rest in a box with you. There is a cozy but comfortable seating area in the back just for this. This area is also an ideal place to enjoy some of their drinking chocolate. Highly, highly recommend.
