There used to be a lot of these around Jacksonville but this is the only location that I know still exists. I've worked in the area for years and this has always been a go-to place. Food: * Gyros - one of the best traditional gyros in Jacksonvill. Get comfy and enjoy. We got a falafel pita sandwich and lamb gyro, both with fries. Falafels were balled up and fried fresh to order! Fries also fried to order with seasoning. And I was surprised to see organic ketchup .. unopened, even! The lady provided samples of the lamb and I understand it's delicious. I know the falafels are! Ordered the Lamb Gyro Combo $15.99 to-go with the Salad plus the Lamb wrap with the Tzatsiki sauce with rice and beans for $10.99 Both were very delicious and the white sauce was excellent with the 6-piece grape leaves. This is my 1st time here and there is plenty of parking, and the place may not be as big inside but the ambiance and service is great. Finally found a good spot in Jax for a traditional gyro. Yum! This was loaded with tasty lamb and they had lots of toppings to pick from. The hummus was delicious- very smooth and creamy. And despite the tiny store front, I found the inside with lots of seating very open and cozy/welcoming at the same time. Nice people here. read more

With no real family owned Greek options near Nocatee, it was nice to find Choban just a short 15 min drive north on US1. Lamb Gyro was fantastic, Falafel was fresh and nice finish with homemade baklava. Will be back soon! read more

This tiny grill is literally a hole in a strip mall wall. While tiny in size, it's huge on taste. The grill uses a counter order process with ingredients in sight. We decided to share a gyro with sides and our server suggested the platter instead because you get way more with the platter. It included hummus, Greek salad, tabbouleh, rice with black beans and peas, stuffed grape leaves, and a generous amount of Tzatziki sauce. We chose lamb and chicken combination for our platter meats. Both the lamb and chicken were plentiful and flavorful but dry. However, the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and perfectly enhanced the meats. The Greek salad was cold and fresh. The tabbouleh was loaded with chopped parsley but light on tomatoes and bulgar wheat. The grape leaves were lemony and tart. The hummus was a surprise. read more

The food was great! We had chicken and lamb gyros and they were the next best thing to eating one in Greece. The cheese rolls and falafel were also wonderful and I watched the nice lady form the falafel by hand and drop them in the oil. Everything was so fresh and tasty. My wife and I tried Choban Grill for the first time today for lunch. It is a cozy, relaxed, and unpretentious little place, which is what I appreciate. The owner and chef, Ilham, is wonderfully cheerful and welcoming. Her passionate and masterful culinary skills are evident in every menu item. We opted for the Lamb Platter and Lamb/Chicken Combo Platter. Each dish included Ilham's superbly fresh Tabouli, Hummus, two Dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), seasoned rice, black beans, soft pita, and topped with magnificently flavorful shaved lamb and lamb/chicken combo. Ilham gave us each a free sample of her uniquely bright tasking yellow lentil soup as well. We also shared a freshly made Baklava for dessert. Everything was out-of-this-world DELICIOUS! It was the absolute best Mediterranean food we have ever had, even better than Greek food I ate in Crete. The food was so good, it literally gave me goosebumps! I was on Phillips Hwy doing some cabinet shopping and needed to find a quick place to grab a bite. Being vegetarian and gluten free usually makes it tough to find a decent place to eat. I found this lovely restaurant and was pleasantly surprised to have one of the most amazing meals ever! I had a huge serving of hummus, beans and rice, salad, 3 fresh made falafel, stuffed grape leaves and the cook actually made me a special batch of tabouli without the bulgur wheat! Choban is one of my go-to cheap eats for a gyro is Jacksonville. Their menu is simple, chicken or lamb. You can either get a gyro, wrap or a salad. When I'm feeling a lighter lunch I'll opt for the gyro. If you're looking for a massive lunch for under $10 get yourself the wrap! Essentially a massive lamb burrito and you'll leave satisfied. Looked all over Jax for a legit Gyro and finally stumbled across this place. Excellent food. The shaved lamb is 60/40 lamb/beef and tastes perfect. Fries are awesome as well. My wife likes to get the bowl or platter and swears by the chicken . The two ladies that run the place are super nice and are quick to offer up a sample of the meat if you desire, and the portions are more than enough. Don't forget the baklava ! Everything was going well until the lady who was preparing our food answered her cellphone with her gloved hand and then placed the cellphone on the surface where food is prepared. True story...I had my delivery apps open and was looking for lunch when a scent wafted in my work area. It smelled delicious and it was making me hungry. I stood up and saw my coworker eating a thic-boy pita-looking thing. I asked her what is it and where did she get it from and she said she got it delivered from Choban. I'd never eaten from Choban, even when all my team go out to lunch there. I usually stay behind and hold down the fort. She offered her 2nd entree to me and I gladly took it without even asking what it was. It was a Lamb Gyro (tzatziki, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, red cabbage salad) and I did a little happy dance because you know, free lunch. It was love at first bite and didn't even mind the red cabbage tzatziki pink sauce dripping all over my hands. It was well worth it and I was full after that. I was hoping for a delicious chicken wrap/shawarma and this was nothing but a plain chicken wrap with chunks of chicken, not thinly sliced like it's supp to be, on a tortilla wrap. My friend with me had the special of baked chicken on rice which she described as very bland. It is so hot in there that it's almost unbearable to sit and eat in. Prices were a lil steep for the quality and quantity- only had a few fries that came with the combo. We came here instead of another greek restaurant and upon entering the customer service of the heavy set woman behind the counter immediately turned me off. She was rude and to the point until she noticed me taking pictures (fancy that). Then her attitude did a 180 and all of the sudden she found her customer service skill. Because of her first few actions I didn't order any food but I made sure to taste my friends food so that I could still give a thorough review. They were out of quite a few things as well but I must say their lamb was tasty but I was a fan of there taziki sauce. This place has a chipotle style feel to it only the Greek version. As I begin to tire of home cooking, my mind started telling me that it craves gyro! Looking online, there seemed to be a few decent spots to choose from, but I settled on Choban Grill. Going in, there wasn't a wait when I got in, but customers started flooding then after. There also was a good amount of seating available inside. Tonight I settled on ordering the gyro platter! Although, kinda pricey ($16), this meal was clearly enough for 2-3 people and packed with flavor! The plate included everything that you can ask for, from tender cooked rice (I got the brown which was very fluffy), black beans or chickpeas, greek salad, stuffed grape leaves, hot pita, gyro, taboleh salad, hummus, tazikki sauce, and house hot sauce (boy that's a mouthful - literally)! I really can't complain as everything was super fresh. I really liked the herbiness of the taboleh salad and the addition of cucumbers, hummus was very creamy, salad possessed freshness (did not taste like bagged greens), gyro was well seasoned/tender, tazikki tasted super homemade (can taste the greek yogurt and shredded cucumber), etc. Moreover, there was this woman working all by herself in the front, and although super busy, she was super friendly to chat with me and prepare my meal promptly.
