As a coffee enthusiast, I tested the staff and tried a latte, cappuccino, macchiato, and mocha, even a hot cocoa! Every one of the drinks were perfectly drawn and foamed. Exactly why we returned so often and I got to try such a variety. The bagels alone keep many coming, I had several myself. I tried the everything bagel, my favorite, as well as a regular. One day I even tried a sandwich with chicken bacon and avocado that definitely wasn't pre-packaged and thrown in a toaster like some coffee shops we know. we enjoyed the Chit Chat Cafe and will go back. The menu was diverse, and we were able to order off the menu which is nice with kids. We came at lunch time and beat the crowd. The service was fast, considering many people came in after us, and the food was really good. We had different things and everyone was happy. The service was pleasant under pressure. So the food, drinks, customer service and view are great. The only thing negative would be the windowsills and counter corners at window, which are beyond disgusting. I don't like giving any place bad ratings....but yelp has been good to me in many suggestions and I feel I should give something back sincerely... and hence I write reviews..... being a coffee freak...I don't expect great coffee from most places... There are two Chit Chat Cafes. They are both very different. The one on Manor Drive is cozy, artsy, and has great coffee. I strongly recommend their Focaccia Sandwich. The bagels are fresh daily and can be had with cream cheese, etc. There are bagelwiches for breakfast and all day too. Great salads! I love going there and meeting with neighborhood friends. There is a great view of the ocean directly across the street where we watch people surfing and the sun setting. The other Chit Chat Cafe is on the Pacifica Pier. It caters to all the fishermen,joggers and tourists. However, the locals are regulars and come in for coffee & Chit Chat. Two weeks ago, my friend and I were there having their specialty Clam Chowder, and heard the excitement . We went out and saw the 2 whales very close to the pier. It is an overwhelming view of the Pacific and the great sunsets that are always different. These coffee houses are a refreshing step back into uniqueness away from the cold corporate atmosphere. read more

This is a late reveiw, I last went in a few weeks ago. It is a great location, and I love that they support local musicians (including kids)by letting them play there. The coffee and food are ok, and I used to love going in for bagels. But, one of the girls behind the counter is incredibly rude and makes me feel unwanted whenever I go in. She doesnt make eye contact, throws my bagel at me, and then turns around without even responding when I say thank you. And, I am a friendly nice person, so I am always miffed by why she is so rude. It is too bad because it should be a wonderful little community place, and I will miss going in to get a bagel and coffee. read more

I was so happy to find this place while stopping to walk my dog along the ocean. Traveling out of S.F. at 8 a.m. through freezing sheets of rain makes you wanna just stop and take a breather somewhere cozy and un-cramped, and if it has a direct view to the ocean, you've found a home away from home for an hour or so. Which is about how long you can surf the internet on the free network here (2 hours). That's just long enough to update your facebook from the road, map your next route, and savor a steamy double shot Americano (for me, black with a drizzle of honey and dusting of cocoa powder). There's plenty of seating, with benches along the backwall and tables sized perfectly for a laptop and a drink. (And the tables are actually level - nothing worse than those unstable tables at some cafes that threaten to splash your java all over precious hardware). It's Sunday morning and some musicians just came in and started setting up in the corner, so looks like I'll get to hear some live music too! Awesome. read more

Here every Sunday for a cup of coffee and a pastry. The staff and fellow customers are friendly and welcoming. Music on Sunday mornings so a nice start to the day. The food is basic funky little coffee shop food....so if you expect something more gourmet....then find a restaurant of your liking. I arrived today for a simple order of mocha and a latte. I waited in line for 2 full minutes before the server turned around from what she was doing behind the counter to even acknowledge that I was at the counter. The money was laid out over the counter. She was counting the cash register - she said "Just two more minutes." 12 minutes later she was ready to attend to me. The first thing she said was that the other person was late and that she had to do the counting. One customer behind me said, "All I need is a coffee - he even had his own coffee mug! She abruptly said, "Wait your turn." He left. I gave my order, extended the money to her and hafl-jokingly said, "What about a free coffee for having to wait so long?" She grabbed the money and said, "Nope." I then asked for my money back and walked out. Though the cafe has great charm and very folks, because the service is rude and contemptuous, I seriously doubt I will return. I shop and buy local but I cannot in good conscience recommend the Chit Chat Cafe at Manor Drive. read more

The ocean IS right outside, but putting up with what goes on here otherwise isn't worth the walk inside. There are really old dudes framming on guitars and singing in warble-y sad voices at ridiculously profane decibels for this early in the morning. The owner only pays two staff to handle the rush which is unfair to them and you. The coffees are ok - I like the Chai Latte with a pumpkin shot - but the crowd is old-ish. There is actually a super older dude that seems to live here because most days I come in - he is here and asleep in some embarrassing pose usually situated front and center of the cafe on display in all his drooling, snoring glory. Doesn't do much for the appetite. Right now, a clucking group of elderly women is doing their damndest to talk over the aging hipster singer - and I'm about to go militant on all their asses. If this sounds like fun to you - and it might - come on down, ya hear?!! (I should get some audio of this. It is NOT to be believed. First off, this place STINKS. And I mean SMELLY STINKY. Like mildew and sweat. I am not sure if it was the patrons that were there, or the cafe that stinks-whatever it is, omg, please please please clean up this place because it is DIRTY and covered with dust. It just REALLY STINKS!!!! I had the clam chowder in between holding my breath because who likes to eat food while smelling something that STINKS?! the chowder was pretty good-not sure if it is homemade-I think they just added in their own potatoes to make it look like it's homemade. Hubs had chicken sandwich-not bad for the taste and the bread was ok-but the lettuce was brown around the edges so we just took that off. Child had the doughnut, he didn't complain, but really, what Child complains when they are offered a doughnut? I want to write a nice review for these people but honestly can't. They're independently owned (ie not a chain); they support local musicians; and the place has that comfortable, slightly run down ambience that spells "coffee shop" to me. Unfortunately after multiple visits the reality can't be ignored -- service is often (but not always) indifferent; coffee ranks worse than Starbucks (which to me personifies bland and boring) although still better than the Pier (2100 Beach Blvd) location; baked goods are stale and/or soggy; and although they don't pay their musicians (who play for love or tips) they're too cheap to add an extra staff person to keep up with "crowds" who show up for music, resulting in excessive waits and garbled orders (well that could just be the counter help which seems to change on a monthly if not weekly basis). When your order finally does show up they do make a decent sandwich, although nothing worth making a special trip for. Buy a bottled drink, and tip the musicians well..... read more

This is a great place to go.. If you want to wait 25 minutes to get a plain bagel with cream cheese, when its not even busy. I was sitting for 20 minutes before i asked if it was almost ready, she had absolutely no clue what i was asking for. I probably wouldn't have posted this review if the the girls working were sincere at all (and I'm a very polite customer, because I work in the service industry as well) they had no excuse to be as rude as they were. It was completely unacceptable...acting like its my problem. Because its totally my fault I wanted a bagel. Went to eat while we were in town on some other business. Sorry we stopped by. The girl at the counter was on the phone talking about her work schedule and turned around to see we were waiting to order. She just turned back around and kept on talking. Had my traveling companion felt like going elsewhere to eat I would have gladly jumped ship. She stayed on the phone for about five minutes while we waited for her to finish her conversation. We ordered food and I was very surprised to see that the chicken sandwich I ordered was cooked in a microwave. I was at the counter paying for my coffee when a man who had been seated at a table approached and told the lady behind the counter he had been waiting for a bagel sandwich for 20 minutes. Her reply was curt, " I put it on the counter, someone else must have taken it." She did not apologize for not making sure the customer received his order, she was very dismissive. we came in this morning on our way to drop b off at the airport. i had the pesto and creem cheese bagel on sesame. it was super yummy. the boyfriend had a white chocolate mocha and "it was not bad". it was our first time there and i thought it was super cute. although we got plenty of stares b/c of boyfriends tshirt "foot print of the american chicken" and it has a peace symbol on it. i dont think they liked him too much and will leave him at home or in the car on my next visit. read more

Hah ! My kind of place, right on the pier with breathtaking views! Had a tripple late which I really thought was good coffee and I m a coffee- holic so I think I have a clue. Hubby had the tuna sandwich and my little one and I shared the plain grilled chicken on rye yummy! Coffee price was fair- sandwich prices a little over the top. I think next time we ll just bring our sandwiches and grab the coffee from there. Did I mention the awesome view ? We so strolled along the pier which was great, it being a clear sunny day...
