It's pretty dang good, I love the authenticity and the fact that it is a hidden gem. Tuesday's AND Thursday's are $0.50 tacos--so just in case you don't get your fix, you can go twice in one week! The reason I'm not giving this place an incredible review is just that the tacos aren't to die for.. I can get the same taco and flavor at any of the other Mexican restaurants in town, but it's always the sides and salsas that set certain ones apart. This one only offers only one type of salsa and it just doesn't do it for me. The television is always turned up really loud, and the workers, although very helpful, don't really make a lasting and fun impression. The bright side: they sell delicious baked goods, so be sure to grab one if you're feeling it! Bread, cookies, and pastries. And they do supply you with a heaping of chips and salsa, which always does it for me. TIPS & TRICKS: * It's right next door to the sushi place, and the parking isn't the best. Tasty, authentic, affordable..this place is great! Chispita serves up one of the best burritos in town for a mere $3.99. I prefer the carne asada, along with a Mexican Coke and one of their tasty Polvorones tri color cookies for dessert, mmm. All of their food I've tried so far had fresh ingredients, cooked hot off the grill and had max flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. It just can't be beat. Service is usually fast, the cook always friendly. I just wish the girl behind the register would smile even once haha. Dining area is clean and usually has adequate seating, though a bit small. TL;DR Super cheap, clean tasting, great customer service. On a random "let's-browse-yelp" day, we picked this one (because it had the word "bakery" and because the pictures made the food look clean). We were pleasantly surprised! We got a super-burrito and a torta -- they were, unfortunately (because I would've loved to try more variety), both carnitas... and they both arrived bigger than our face. This is definitely a biggest bang for the buck (if that's what you look for, #firststar) sort of place. The carnitas was succulent (#secondstar), the other dressings were simple, and the entire affair was clean (so clean, #thirdstar). One note: if you like your food heavily seasoned, your deadened taste buds will probably find this place on the bland side (we thought it was perfect). Also, impeccable customer service. Story time... We felt bad - we ordered 'to go', but decided to dine in. When the restaurant realized we weren't 'to go', they came and asked us if we wanted chips. We declined, but we heard him tell the back to send 'un pequito' - and a pile of chips arrived. It reminds me of classic Chinese hospitality and just, in general, taking care of customers (#fourthstar) - which we appreciated (we did our best finishing the chips). We were too full to try their pastries, but next time because there will be a next time (#fifthstar). [They open at 7 AM, so my plan for someday is to bring some coffee and starting out my morning with some pastries]. I love tex-Mex (the dirtier, oilier the better); so, if you're looking for tex-mex, this isn't the place to go. Chispita is one of my favorites. If you like Mexican food, they won't let you down. Be patient, with authenticity in the food comes a small communication barrier. Be kind and understanding and you'll be fine. Everything tastes fantastic, the food is well priced (sometimes even a little less than you planned on spending.) everyone there is friendly, the atmosphere is clean and fun. And the menu is fun to experiment with and explore. Don't forget those 50¢ tacos on Tuesday and Thursday either. That's a steal. Totally recommend. read more

If you love cheap, authentic Mexican food, you are going to go nuts over Chispita Bakery. Trust me, I know. It happened to me!! Came in a Saturday or two ago, and soccer was playing on TV and several families were seated, watching it over lunch. There aren't many tables, but we were lucky enough to get one that was recently vacated. After taking our order, the highly effusive owner zipped back out to quickly wipe down the table. I can't ignore the words "super burrito" when they appear on a menu. It simply isn't possible. I hope you don't, either, because the super burrito at Chispita will cause you to have an out of body experience. It's that good. And so is the salsa. And so is the ice cold Mexican Coke. After writing this, I'm sad that it's 2 a.m., and that tomorrow is Sunday, because I have NO idea why I've failed to return to Chispita Bakery for almost two weeks. It's criminal. Stopped here when I saw the Open sign, and was glad I did. Small but cute and clean little dining room. Self-serve shelves with pastries, pan dulce etc. Got a couple churros (good), a vanilla cream filled cono (very good), and some sort of turnover with red berry flavored filling (I don't think there was an actual berry in it; flaky and good). But then again, in my book, you really can't go wrong with pastries. Got burritos to-go and they were enormous and tasty (they even had a meatless one). Made fresh to order. The salsa was more of a hot sauce, good flavor. Can't wait to try more of the menu! Update 1/25/15: I've been back several times. The chile relleno is delicious, as are the enchiladas and the cakes in the refrigerator. Love this place! You can't beat the prices, either. If you eat in the restaurant, you get chips & salsa as you wait for your order. The owners/staff are also friendly & efficient. Chispita Bakery is super yummy and great prices! I was a little displeased because we got there at 8:15 and they were only taking to go orders but closed at 9. They don't offer chips and salsa unless you are staying. Two men walked in after us and got chips and salsa after we were told we couldn't stays. That was pretty annoying. read more

Absolutely delicious and authentic food! Best Mexican in town hands down. The prices are equally excellent, especially for their selection of baked goods. We tend to stick to their burritos, every bite of which is an explosion of flavor. I love their al pastor and steak burritos, while my fiance prefers tongue, which is cooked so perfectly it melts in your mouth. I only had a combination plate once, and the portion was kind of stingy. I did take this to go, and based on pictures it seems the portions are bigger for those who dine in. Nice little hole in the wall place with good selection of baked goods and kitchen churning out a variety of burritos, tacos and more. It is small and tight, so plan for take-out in case there aren't enough seats for your group. Service was friendly. I ordered a large steak burrito to go with both red and green sauce. The order came with an adequate serving of fresh quality chips. I also selected a couple baked items - both delicious. I enjoyed the burrito - there was certainly nothing to complain about. But at same time, compared to similar I am used to, there was little meat compared to rice and other ingredients. The burrito also struggled to stay in shape - needing significant coaxing to be eaten as intended. The flavor of the sauces was fine, but they lacked any kick, were runny and appeared as though heavily strained - again not quite what I consider top notch from small authentic places such as this. All in all not a bad experience - I'd certainly return to try something different. Given choice however between an old favorite and Chispita, the old standby wins by a long shot....at least when it comes to carne asada burritos. read more
