I normally make it a point to support local businesses, but unfortunately, this meal was very disappointing. I ordered the fried chicken with field peas, greens, and a cornbread muffin. Unfortunately, each item had an issue. The field peas were so mushy that they practically turned into a purée when I tried to eat them with a fork. The greens were the complete opposite--they were extremely tough, and I found myself chewing them for several minutes. The flavor was also unusual and difficult to identify. The fried chicken was seasoned, but the seasoning seemed to be mostly on the skin. The meat itself was bland, and the chicken had a burnt taste while the skin was still undercooked. The cornbread muffin was probably the biggest disappointment. It was extremely hard, to the point that I was concerned about breaking a tooth. The picture really speaks for itself. I understand that an occasional meal may not turn out perfectly, so I'm willing to give this business another try. I sincerely hope this was just an off day and not representative of the quality they normally serve. I believe in supporting local businesses, but customers should also be able to expect good-quality food and consistency. Hopefully, my next experience will be much better. read more

We stopped at Chism's on the way back from Natchez. It was a family win. Kids got grilled cheese and chicken strips. We got the fried catfish which was the Platonic ideal of fried catfish. The collared greens were also on point! Couldn't recommend more. The folks were kind and welcoming. read more

What a treat we had finding this little gem off the beaten path in Brookhaven, MS, as we traveled south to New Orleans. Born in the Delta, this southern gal knows her catfish and chose the catfish poboy. It surpassed my expectations with two large and plump filets laid on a butter toasted bun and dressed with tarter sauce, pickles, mayo, lettuce and tomatoes. Crispy crinkle cut French fries completed the meal. My German sister in law also enjoyed the catfish, on ongoing request when she visits. This place was awesome!! The building isn't in the best of shape but the food and staff is amazing. So glad we finally got to try it. I have a family of 5 and the price was under $50 which was including the extra sides we tried of hushpuppies and fried green tomatoes so that's pretty dang good. Only things I would change is maybe spruce the building up a tad and it would have been nice to be able to self refill our drinks but I will be recommending this place for sure! read more

Family owned restaurant that is a good alternative to the many chain offerings here in Brookhaven. Also a great option for people traveling down I-55 who would like a sit down meal with some local character. I can vouch for the hamburgers here, one of the better ones around town. Haven't tried any of their Cajun fare, other than the Gumbo, but they have some good looking Po Boy's and I'm eager to sample the Panfried Trout. Gumbo was tasty. I stumbled upon this little joint by accident. I ordered the catfish plate which was plentiful, crispy and delicious. Just a little greasy, but still prepared very well. The coleslaw is a good compliment and I could taste a little sugar in the dressing. Excellent. Don't worry with the fries. Tasteless and limp. The fried green tomatoes were also good, but probably better when they are offering inside dining again. Tomatoes don't keep well in styrofoam. The German chocolate cake was moist.
