It came with a strawberry and a side of fresh whipped cream. The flavor was a little unique, not as sweet as I expected, but it worked really well. The service was good throughout the night, too. Unfortunately, significant operational issues lowered our overall experience: Cons * Inflexible Tasting Policies: Before signing our contract, we were told there would be both a food and cake tasting. However, we weren't told until later that food tastings only take place on specific Saturdays during certain times of the year. Because we observe a Saturday Sabbath, we could not attend, and no accommodations were made--forcing us to choose our menu blind. Additionally, cake tastings are limited strictly to whatever flavors the chef happens to prepare that weekend, regardless of what you actually want to sample. * Dietary Restriction Oversight: We clearly communicated several guest dietary restrictions in advance, including severe shrimp allergies within our wedding party. Despite this, shrimp was still served to those individuals. Thankfully, the staff corrected it after it was pointed out, but a mistake involving severe allergens could have ended much worse. * Timeline Delays: I shared a detailed schedule with our coordinator weeks in advance. However, the venue deviated from the outline in several places. For example, salad service was delayed, which pushed main courses back and created a domino effect, forcing us to rush our schedule toward the end of the evening. * Lack of Active Coordination: The coordination felt passive. During the ceremony, the pastor had to call for the ring bearer multiple times before he finally wandered out, confused. Later, the wedding party was left scattered, leading to a late start for the reception introductions. * Cleared Plates & Communication: A bride and groom should get to eat at their own wedding. I was so busy managing details that I hadn't eaten a single bite. My wife explicitly asked an attendant not to clear my plate because I wasn't finished, yet they threw my full plate away rather than covering or packing it. When I asked if anything had been saved, I was simply met with only a apology Summary: The Riverview is a stunning venue with great food and friendly staff, but their event coordination and flexibility left much to be desired. The course is in fantastic shape and in a picturesque setting. The autumn foliage was still present and many holes were simply breathtaking. Oh but those hills! I am 64 and in good shape. I always walk and push a cart. Next time I will definitely rent an electric cart! I was nearly exhausted by the end of 18. The woman in the golf shop was super friendly and super helpful! A true people person whose love for golf and the course were obvious. One of my favorite courses in Connecticut. I will definitely be back!

A simple order - Johnny Walker Red on the rocks, and a whiskey sour. Bartender looks at me and grabs the bottle of Jack Daniels. I explained, no, Johnny Walker Red. I pointed to the bottle on the shelf. She proceeds to grab a bottle of vodka. Finally, she understands Johnny Walker, and asks which one - "I have two kind." Finally, she pours the correct liquor and moves on to the whiskey sour. First, she fills a collins glass with ice, and grabs the Jack Daniels again. I told her Seagrams. She gave me a blank look, and grabs the bottle of Johnny Red. "No! Seagrams 7." I pointed to the bottle of Seagrams. She gave me a dirty look, and pours it into the glass. "And coke?" she asked. "No. Whiskey Sour. Sour Mix." Another blank expression, and she picked a button at random. My friend took the drink and tasted it. Nothing like a whiskey sour - she put tonic water in it. Buffet food was ok. Green beans were more gray than green, and the shredded carrots mixed in were more white than orange. Other than that, everything else was acceptable. What wasn't acceptable was the lack of attention to the room. The two servers stood at the foot of the buffet table and watched as everyone went through the line. Some people went up to the bar, and they finally had to call the bartender over to make drinks (good luck with that!) It was well into our business part of the meeting (about 45 minutes later) when they started to remove the stacks of empty plates from tables, interrupting the speaker. After that, they broke down the buffet, clanging the chafers as they cleaned them up and carried them out. Usually, this would be done when the room was empty. It was a major distraction. As the meeting dragged on, the servers kept peeking out from where they were hiding, looking at their watches, and shaking their heads. Obviously, they wanted to be someplace else. If I wasn't required to attend these meetings, I would spend my time at a place where I can get my drink order correct, and I don't have to worry about the papers I'm working from falling into my dirty dishes from dinner. I don't know why the experience has changed so much from when I first attended meetings there a couple of years ago. New staff, maybe? Everything seems to be such an effort for the people working the event, and they really seemed miserable. Maybe put on servers who enjoy the job?

For dinner we ventured out to downtown Litchfield on one night and to Bantam the other. We didn't get a chance to use the pool which has just opened, but can confirm it is beautiful! And they had a snack area that we could access and a better than average complimentary breakfast, with an omelet station and Arethusa Milk. The only issue we had was with the water temperature in our sink. It never seemed to get warm. In any event, overall it was a good stay.
