Extremely disappointed with the swim program at YMCA Chino. We pulled our child out with four classes still remaining even though they don't offer refunds. We would rather give up the remaining classes than continue wasting time here. The entire operation is very disorganized and unprofessional. Coaches are frequently rotated, and many coaches are clearly unprepared. One coach even asked the kids what swimming level they were at after the class had already started -- this is not just careless, it is completely unacceptable. The class arrangement is extremely chaotic. Six kids were squeezed into one narrow swim lane, with no enough space for real learning. It felt chaotic from start to end. This is not an environment where kids can truly learn to swim or build confidence in the water. If your child likes swimming and you take swim instruction seriously, please don't waste your time and money at YMCA Chino read more

The Aqua fit instructors life guards are wonderful The negative is that the water temperature is to cold for seniors with special medical conditions the pool is outdoors we've expressed our concerns to management. I am a disabled, senior, woman. The director of the Chino YMCA has reduced the temperature of the pool to below the federal requirement (83 and above) of the temperature for Aquatic classes. I feel that this is a deliberate discrimination against disable, seniors. The director is very rude and has told some of the seniors to get a wet suit and even told us to go to the Upland YMCA pool. I can not jeopardize my health and well being by using this pool. They also take a false temperature reading by hanging the pool thermometer in the sun, just below the surface of the water ( federal requirements is at least two feet under water in the center of the pool) Be Aware ! read more

It has everything, a big well-maintained Gym, exercise classes for all levels including chair exercise, child care, dance, and my favorite the heated pool, water aerobics classes 6 days a week, lap swims and any level of swim lessons. For senior citizens they accept most Medicare advantage that include Silver sneakers and other Medicare physical fitness programs for payment. read more

Ok. This is a Small ymca compared to others. This ymca has 2 rooms whre in one room they have treadmills, and bicycles and some other small equipment..etc Then on the other room they have one of each machine, for legs, arms, tummy, etc, just one of each, they have lots of sets of dumbells I really love love the babysitting area. Mia, she is really lovely with the kiddos. She's there M-W-F. I really love this ymca is not crowded like others. I usually go here every morning around 6am- or 8:30am and i only seen like 3-4 people working out in there, love that! All machines for me... I can't say anything at evening because i been there only once and it had a little bit of more going on , around 10 people working out , but still not that crowded compared to other gyms...this ymca offers another amenities like Zumba class, yoga, body sculp, etc.. read more

I signed up my 7 year old for swimming classes here. The instructor seems patient and nice. However, they had 2 different classes (different levels ) going on at the same time right next to each other, so it was difficult to focus on 1 instructor at a time. It would've been helpful to separate the different classes out, so there aren't 2 instructors (1 very loud) talking at the same time. They also have a sign in the women's locker room that says no boys over the age of 5. Do they expect moms to send their young boys into a locker room alone where men are changing and showering? NOT OK Also can parents who are waiting for their kids get a tiny bit of shade? There was absolutely no shade read more

I really love the offerings for kids. Swim and dance are awesome. I wish they offered more and also more time slots would be nice. I don't love the facility. It's definitely showing it's age. In some ways, the facility seems to be stuck in the 80s. I think more class offerings and updated construction, etc could help a lot. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

Aside from the rude lady who helped me register my kids for swimming lessons, I really like the swimming teachers at this facility. I have a 6 year old and 7 month old, and so far the teachers are great with my kids. I will definitely continue to take them here for their lessons. I have yet to utilize the other services for members. Although I do so a lot of people using the gym. The equipment seems fairly new and in working condition. That's always a good sign. Maybe I'll decide to get my lazy butt to the gym one day ;) read more

I only recently discovered this YMCA during the pandemic. I have tried it out a few times for the pool only. The pool is a real gem for swimming. While my daughter prefers the Upland YMCA for the kiddie pool, I by far prefer this location for the lap swim. It's so peaceful and well organized. The lifeguards are so friendly and attentive! They run a tight ship these days. Whistle to get in, and a whistle to get out at the end of your reservation. You get in the lane they assign to you. I LOVE that you can reserve a whole lane and swim outside. It seems so much safer this way. I hate the feeling of being crammed into a lane with someone else with COVID19 on the rise (as always happens at the Upland location). The few other patrons visiting at the same time have always courteous. read more

This place is amazing for kids.. first I signed up my 4 years old daughter for swimming lessons here, They were so patient with her since she was too scared of water, they helped her to break her fear. Then I met miss Crystal the kindest sweetest person ever... she provides classes for preschool kids like cooking, art, tiny tots.. I have put my daughter in all of them and it was the best decision I've ever made. My daughter loves going there to see miss Crystal and her friends, she is learning and having fun! read more

For a small community YMCA they're looking pretty good. There is a lot to offer like Pilates, Yoga, and other things that are included with the membership. No extra charges. The basketball courts are nice and the pool is a decent size. Lockers are tiny though. The weight room covers a full body workout but if someone is on a machine you are on then you have to wait because they're occupying the only whatever you wanted. Even with the small collection of machines it's not crowded. The cardio room has good ventilation and circulation. There are 6 treadmills and a couple elliptical. No stationary bikes but similar machines are present. Front staff is friendly and so are the patrons. All in all what a community YMCA should be like. read more

Oh YMCA how disappointing you are. Let me count the ways. From your perpetual unsanitary conditions throughout your facilities. To your clueless rude staff. The things that you will experience when you go here will simultaneously vex, aggravate and astound you. I could go into how they ran off a yoga instructor who always had a full class to the dangerously moronic water polo program that takes place in a 4 foot deep pool. All this for the same price as 24 hour fitness. Don't waste your time with this place. It is dirty, filed with nasty staff who will find ways to annoy you no matter how far you try to stay out of their purview. My boys have been taking swimming here for years. The youngest since he was 6 months old and doing parent infant water introduction class. The older, now 7, is now swimming independently in the poly-wogs class, and the younger is doing the tadpole class and learning to start swimming on his own. I definitely prefer the open air environment of the YMCA. but there are drawbacks, especially when the rare instance of cold weather rears up. Otherwise, the sun and the breeze is much preferred to the indoor chlorine infused atmosphere of some of the other swim schools. read more

I enrolled my son here for swimming lessons and I am very glad I did. I searched through various options and realize the more private lessons are pretty expensive, I am talking about a couple hundred dollars for only twice a week. No thanks. I didn't know this YMCA had a swimming pool, it is outdoors! The good thing about the pool is even though it's outdoors, the pool is heated at a consistent temp all year around. I believe 85 degrees, I've been in it an believe me it feels nice and warm. It's $50 for registration and $90/month for the 3+ swimming classes on Monday and Wed for half an hour. I was very worried because my son is very afraid of deep waters even though he loves water. Living in Cali, I feel it is vital to know how to at least survive in the water. The class is small and has about 4-5 other children but their are two teachers. My son was scared and cried like crazy but the instructors (Ms. Ashley) was sooooo patient with him even when he comes running to me by getting out of the pool. There isn't a shallow end for your kiddies so they have to hang onto the wall which my son was afraid to do. After a few classes of him screaming my name, she recommend me going to the parent/tot swimming lessons on Tues and Thurs. Basically I will be in the pool with my babe which he was more comfortable with but still cried. Ashely gave me pointers on what to do and most of them worked~! It's not strict class at all, so I got to work with my babe for now until he gets to be comfortable to be involved in class. Overall, I will keep trying with my son here and stick to swimming lessons for the year. It's completely inexpensive and the workers are very nice. 5 stars def. read more

They get 1 star only because ultimately the person running the show doesn't care about the customers at all. Basically they will do almost anything whatsoever to make sure they don't have to give a customer credit to their account for swimming lessons. The other day they sent an email out at 11:15 stating that the pool was closed because of some problems and our class is at 4:20pm. We were fine with that because we would get a credit for that until at about 5:10pm when we checked our email we found out that at 3:33pm they sent an email stating the pool was now open. We called at 5:10pm and the guy that answered was very rude and said it was our problem for not checking our email more often. Then today they had another problem and the pool was closed but instead of just giving us credit for the day, they said we had to bring our two kids in with 93 degree weather and go through a water safety training. Sorry my 3 and 5 year old are not going to sit through a 30 minute safety class in 93 degree weather. It's very bad treatment for having our 5 year in the swimming program for 4 1/2 years and now our 3 year old just joined. On a good note, all of the instructors are very cool and nice to deal with. The aquatics director is also great to deal with. I want to leave this place because the Director is so hard to deal with which is mainly why they get 1 star. After the last couple of incidents I think my wife is almost convinced as well. read more

This review is for Jessica ( hope I got her name right ) who does the babysitting. I came as a guest with my mom in the evening to workout in the gym area around 7pm. My daughter (2years old) we put her in the babysitting area. My daughter cried a little when trying to drop off but Jessica tries to distract her. After I got away I kept peaking to see how she was doing and I was happy to see my daughter was doing okay with a first time stranger. Jessica even got a coloring page of Elsa and my daughter talked about seeing the "water" all the way home. Oh and Jessica even bought her some chips. Thank you for going above and beyond. VERY disappointed ! The swim instructors are careless and treat kids unfair. It was two instructors for 4 kids that day. After first turn they put my 5 year old son under the hot Sun on wait at least 15 mins for doing nothing. It was very hot last Saturday. My heart was almost melting when I saw it. I choose here because it's closer my home. We went to Aquatic Zone at Corona before. They have indoor pool. They offer make up lesson. The instructors are patience and enthusiasm. My son had learned so much there. I bet how much can you learn in one lesson at Aquatic Zone equal five lessons here. I high recommended it! This is our second lesson at YMCA. We decide to go back to Aquatic Zone. Don't waste your money and time here! read more

I don't understand after reading all these reviews about the front desk, things have not changed. I will not be bringing my kid back here, mostly due to the girl who is at the front desk with the personality of a door knob. She always looks miserable. As we were leaving lessons, we have to pick up our membership card at front desk, I kindly asked for my kid's card and gave her our name, she just handed it to me without even looking at me or saying thank you, thank you for coming, have a nice day, see you next time, nothing. No customer service/people skills whatsoever. At first, i thought she was having a bad day, then after a month of seeing this, I knew this girl hates her job. And it shows. As a business owner, I don't see how somebody can have someone like this be the face of your company, when she is the first and last person they see and talk to when they walk into your establishment. Not a good gatekeeper whatsoever. As far as swimming, I brought my kid here for swim lessons this month. The instructors were good, however 4 kids to one instructor for a 30 minute lesson will not get your child the attention he or she needs, especially when they have to spend a lot of time getting other kids to stop crying or put them on time out. For the price we are paying, its worth paying a little bit more for more private or semi private lessons. read more

I absolutely adore the YMCA!! It's our second home and its family atmosphere makes us all want to come back each day. My girls have done almost everything they offer and I enjoy seeing them luv the programs . I use the gym myself and absolutely look forward to going. Mrs Crystal and Miss Jen and the other teachers are so awesome !! Mrs Crystal literally Luvs the kifs and cares so greatly for them. My daughter Luvs her!! She Luvs Miss Jen too. The staff are extremely qualified, the kids are actively involved in the class and I love that the have two trained lifeguards on site at all times. VERY rude... horrified by their sevice desk or front administrative ladies. Just went in with a friend to see about the new membership for both of our families. No greet from the two of the front ladies behind the counter... that was okay... As we stood front of them there was NO... "how can I help you?" or anything, just a unwelcoming look as if we were bothering her. Anyways, we asked about the new membership info and one of them just rudely pointed and told us to look at the spinning rack. My friend and I looked at each other... is this for real? We pulled and looked at different flyers and didn't see any membership fee or options, so asked another lady... she didn't say anything just pulled out a sheet of paper with a numb face. We sat down and talked about the swimming classes and saw bunch or people come and go... and that 15 minutes we sat there... absolutely NO greetings or any acknowledgment from those two ladies unless someone came up to them and spoke to them first. We were horribly disappointed and walk out with a bad taste in our mouth. Absolutely unwelcoming experience. We will never return to that YMCA nor recommend it to anyone! read more

I've been working out here for two years and its a simple little gym with the necessities, but the one thing that turned me off were the visible mouse traps around the building and even hearing from the staff how they find mice all the time. The last thing i want to see is a mouse running around while im doing my ab work on the floor or my nephew seeing ot touching a mouse in his tiny tot class. First of all I have a daughter who goes to ymca preschool. The tuition fee is very affordable but the problem start when a month of going to ymca preschool she got UTI. how did she get it first the bathroom is not kids friendly and the ONLY bathroom close to the classroom is under renovation. So if the child needs to use the bathroom they have to come out of the building and use the portable toilet in the courtyard which is very high too and hard to use for kids HELLO YMCA and very unsanitize for kids. The classroom of the kids is also a yoga room which is dusty and also all the sweat of the people who use it for yoga is mix with kids too. VERY UNSANITIZE!!!!!! One month I tried it and she got UTI so I learn my lesson dont fall for the cheap tuition fee. Piece of advice find a school for your kids which are kids friendly and the bathroom is accessible if they wanna use it. Ymca needs a lot of improvement when it comes to there facility. If they wanna cater kids they need to make sure kids can use there facility without problems like what my daughter encounter. read more

I had my kids in swim lessons over the summer and they were great and even now the lesson itself is great, the teacher is amazing. My daughter is in a higher level class and the teacher, she was great. What i didn't like however was the large lady at the front desk. She was rude and extremely unhelpful. Also i noticed during the swim lessons there was this lady with curly blonde hair who yells at the kids waiting for their turn, she always tells them to hold onto the wall even if they are. DO NOT take swimming lessons or join the swim club at Chino YMCA!!!!!! My daughter learned all of her strokes there and was on the porpoise club until she recently switched to the Vellano Swim Club. Once she got on the Vellano team they told her that 2 of her strokes were illegal and needed to be worked on. YMCA taught her how to do butterfly and breastroke completely wrong. I read the recent comment from December about the bathroom situation and I wanted to set the record straight. My children have been apart of the YMCA for years. When the bathroom renovation began, the preschool teacher, Ms. Crystal, assured myself and all of her students' parents, that the kids would be using the restroom in the park. The portable bathrooms WERE NOT the only bathrooms for the children. The kids walked to the park restrooms which are in the same parking lot as the YMCA. They did this everyday for 2 months. I trust the YMCA with my children and Ms. Crystal loves her students as if they were her own. The bathrooms are totally renovated now and are beautiful. My family and I will continue to utilize the services that the YMCA and their staff offer. read more
