I love the Chinese food from Chinese Gourmet inside Cielo Vista Mall. They have lots of different options to choose from. My favorite is the bourbon chicken with fried rice and I also get beef and broccoli as a side. Service is always great and nice dining area outside the restaurant. read more

I recently ordered a #2 noodles with two sides. When I began eating, I noticed the noodles were dry and hard, similar to how pasta gets when it's been left out too long and starts to harden around the edges. I went back to the counter to request a new plate since I saw they had just put out fresh noodles -- no issue there. However, while my new plate was being prepared, an employee with colorful hair made a very unprofessional and disturbing gesture. She looked at my plate and sarcastically asked, "Is this wet enough?" while pretending to spit in the food. I was watching her the entire time, and she immediately started apologizing once she realized I had seen it. She claimed she thought the plate was for a coworker and offered to make another one. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable eating there and politely requested a refund. The entire experience was unprofessional and extremely off-putting. I hope management addresses this behavior seriously. read more

Chinese Ghetto Gourmet Now just to warn you, I'm talking about fast food Chinese takeout inside of a shopping mall. At Cielo Vista mall, you would hope that this place would be worthy of heaven delight. After all, Panda Express started out in shopping malls nationwide and became its own standalone store. With so many mall patrons lining up here, there just had to be something special cooking up here. So let me tell you a bit more. The FOOD: WILL IT LIVE UP TO PANDA EXPRESS? Noodles: WHEN CHEWING BECOMES LESS OF A PLEASURE AND MORE OF A CHORE I was excited when a fresh batch of noodles came out and expected something great. On first glance, the noodles were unusually yellow, while the texture was unusually chewy like uncooked dough (-1 star). They carried the sauce well, but there was still a bland taste with each bite. The sauce tasted like sugar and soy sauce, but without any seasoning or spices to bring it to the next level. I think white rice would have been a better choice. Orange Chicken: NOW FOR VEGETARIANS You just cannot mess up Orange Chicken! However, if you double, triple, and quadruple coat the chicken with batter, it becomes difficult to taste anything but batter with a side of chicken. With the amount of batter coating the chicken, you might as well just skip the chicken and save this for the vegetarians. The orange-flavour stood out like a caramel enriched with orange peel, but the lack of chicken made this dish much less to be desired (-1 star). I had a huge piece of orange chicken the size of softball and was disappointed to find that it was maybe 25% chicken. What a Christmas story in the making. Spicy Bourbon Chicken: ONE OF THESE IS MISSING Whenever I see the word spicy to describe a dish, I always take it with a grain of salt. Most of the time, there is little or no spice. This dish follows suit and tastes only like a bourbon-caramel glaze without the spice (-1 star). With chunks of juicy chicken in a burnt bourbon sauce, this was the star of this circus. Each bite became a little more addicting than the last. Carrots, bell peppers, and black pepper helped deepen the aromatics of the dish and made it wonderfully complex. Thank goodness I chose this one. The VERDICT: WE MISS PANDA EXPRESS Remember those days when Panda Express was in the shopping mall with their "we don't use MSG" signs? I sure do. Although Chinese Gourmet Express attempts to fill in that niche of shopping mall food court Chinese food, it falls a bit short compared to Panda Express. Although they offer some unique choices, the execution of their dishes leaves much to be desired. To the noodle enthusiasts, the noodles were lacking in seasoning while having an unusual yellow color and doughy consistency. The Orange Chicken had a good orange-peel-caramel glaze, but was sadly a lot of batter with a side of chicken. The Spicy Bourbon Chicken was not spicy, but the burnt bourbon sauce worked well with the juicy chunks of chicken to save this meal. Overall, I will not be coming back considering the Thai place next door may be better and there is always a Chick Fil-A nearby. read more
