This is the 4th Chinese food place we have tried since moving here 6 months ago and so far the only one we kept the leftovers from and would order from again. They deliver on post and promptly which was a big plus for us. Placing our order over the phone was very quick and simple and the guy over the phone was very nice. We had our food hot and in hand within about 40 minutes on a Friday night. We ordered egg drop soup which my daughter said was really good. The sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, And the pepper steak were all cooked well and very tasty. The last two were very heavy on vegetables and light on meat though. We all enjoyed the fried dumplings and cheese wontons but thought the pork egg rolls were very greasy and had a strange flavor. They do use large strips of pork as opposed to Char Sui in their pork fried rice, lo mein, and pork egg rolls which I do not prefer personally. I missed the flavor the char sui adds and dealing with the big strips of pork was a pain. I'll probably just order a vegetable version next time. Over all my family was very happy with our order. One of my favorite places to visit, just took a 180 degree turn. I understand the economic situation at this time when prices rise, but when you change the product delivered to your customers, now that's not right. Personal experience; Vegetables where cut wrong, chicken disappeared in the vegetables and quantity on the soup is reduced. Second time at Peking Kitchen and it will probably be our last. The food is priced for a good deal but the quality just isn't there. My girlfriend loved her sesame tofu but that was about the only good thing we had. The beef with broccoli was tough with only four or five pieces of meat. The sauce on the orange chicken tasted like it was from a jar. The service was not good as the young girl could do more than one thing at a time. Take an appetizer order, leave, bring two drinks but not the third, then leave but come back five minutes later for our order. Just not very efficient and she knew nothing about the menu. Worse of all, she named off the fountain drinks only to come back and tell us they were out of one, leave and then tell us they didn't have anything but lemonade or iced tea. There comes a time in every man's (or woman's) life when you find the greatest thing purely by accident. Such was the case for me today, considering I wasn't even looking for another great Chinese restaurant since I found Soya Cafe the week prior. However, that was all put to rest when I came across a little corner of heaven known as Peking Kitchen (not to be confused with Peking Garden). But it's...definitely not perfect. Okay, so I should clarify a thing: this place is actually Szechuan style cuisine, but that's still an overall theme of Chinese. Only...south western Chinese. What does that even mean to us plebeian American consumers of all things? Not a damn thing. They serve all the appetizers and sides you would expect from a typical Chinese place. Today I decided to try one of their lunch specials. Once again, like their distant cousin Soya, the lunches were well priced for what they had to offer. In fact, I'd say I enjoyed their menu configuration even more because they just had more to offer. Basically, you get a main course, soup of your choosing, an egg roll, and your choice of fried or white rice. So being the huge seafood connoisseur that I am, I decided I wanted to see what their butterfly shrimp was all about. It was nothing like I expected, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The best way I can describe it is...deep fried shrimp meets sweet n' sour sauce. The texture and flavor were all great. I wasn't a fan of the pineapple swimming in sweet n' sour sauce and resembling the color and appearance of cubed grapefruit, so I left it on the plate. Now, here's where things become both interesting and mixed. First, I had what was possibly the BEST cup of egg drop soup I have ever tasted since moving back to El Paso! I'm talking about the kind of egg drop soup that's perfectly seasoned, perfect broth consistency, plenty of egg (of course) AND....they serve a copious portion of fried wontons perfect for dipping into the soup. I also love the fact that it was piping hot when it came out...but not like, boiling hot. So many other places screw that up. For a side, I ordered the fried rice and...this is where things get mixed for me. Because I'm a huge fan of fried rice, both in the Japanese and Chinese cuisine. That being said, today's fried rice was bland and forgettable. It had hardly any egg in it and lacked so much flavor that I had to add a dash of soy sauce just to continue eating. Not a complete fail; just a bit of a let down. So here's what I intend to do for my next visit, and I'm sure you'll agree: just get the white rice instead and season to taste with soy sauce and enjoy. If I'm gonna eat stoic rice, it might as well be the white rice. At least then I don't have to worry about avoiding the peas. I also didn't care for the presentation. I dunno what it is...it's just something about a pile of rice looking as if it was placed on the plate and molded with an upside down funnel that seems unappealing to me. The egg roll was a near miss for me as well. Because whilst the outside was crispy and inviting, the inside (ya know...the part that matters?) was slightly bland and unexciting for me. Again, I had to pour a dash of soy sauce inside the egg roll in order to enjoy it fully. I usually never do this, btw. Other than that, I really don't have much to complain about this place. I want to return for lunch one day soon. The inside looks and feels very comfy and is the total opposite of cramp. I have to wonder if this is a fairly new restaurant because they only have 1 review from a few days ago so far. And so...I had to put them on the market and make sure everyone far and wide knew that this place is easily a comfy lunch spot worthy of 4 perfectly seasoned bowls of egg drop soup accompanied with crispy delicious fried wontons which taste like heaven on earth out of 5. read more

This review is going to be short and sweet. The general Tso is so freaking good !! It looks like it could be spicy but honestly it's not...I mean at all ! They did not skimp on the amount they give as the "dinner" option. THE NOODLES THOUGH I could literally just order that and be a happy little lady lol. I've been during lunch and dinner time. Same order different price. Lunch is about $8.60 and dinner (what's on the pic) is $12.95, but if you're military you get a discount so it came out to about $12.25. Kuddos to the lady who asked :). In El Paso for work for a few weeks and had a craving for Chinese food. I struggled with deciding between this place and another place with a similar name. I drove to this restaurant and ordered shrimp egg food yung with fried rice. My coworker just ordered fried rice. I'm used to a smooth textured shrimp egg foo yung but when I bit into this one it has a fried texture. I don't like it at all. Then I tried to put the "brown gravy" on it because that typically makes it good, but it wasn't a normal brown gravy it was some sort of brown sauce (sauce and gravy two different things) that contained peas and carrots. It has a somewhat sweet taste to it. I am extremely disappointed and wasted money because I threw it in the trash. I gave them two stars because the staff was friendly, but I'll never visit this place again Update: after this review I tried my fried rice which was also not good. My coworker stated the same. Rant - This is by far one of my favorites lunch place. Unfortunately, the service is not good at all. 16 Tables = 2 Servers & 1 Register Associate. The waitresses and register personal push themselves 120% and more that's the reason for 2 stars or I would do 1. I want to believe that the owner/s are penny pinchers just because I've been coming here for like 2 years and still same amount of severs, especially during lunch hour. Shame on them if that's the reason. On today's visit, 2 customers walked out because there weren't enough bodies to clean dirty tables. Food was good. I ordered a tofu and veggie dish. Veggies were cooked just the way I like them, with a slight crisp. Despite other negative reviews, I had a great experience with Peking Kitchen. I ordered delivery with General Tao Chicken and Cheese Wonton. Food was good, wished the Chicken had a little more kick but maybe I could have requested a hot version. Wonton were crispy and filling was tasty. Delivery was really quick (just over 30 mins) and the food was hot on arrival. There were missing items from my order, when I called to report it the restaurant wanted to give me a $2 credit for future use. I'm not from here so I told them no thank you. They reluctantly brought the missing items. It was clearly not the delivery persons fault but the restaurant. The egg foo young and the egg rolls were good but the Happy Family was less than tasty, it had over-cooked squishy vegetables and almost no shrimp. I am not from Texas and I am used to a certain style and taste of Chinese food. Many places in El Paso don't taste anything like I am used to. I ordered the wonton soup, General Tso with fried rice. I will admit the fried rice is a little bland but the service was fast and friendly and my dining in experience was excellent. My meal as a whole was wonderful, soup was very good, egg roll was crispy and hot, not mushy inside, and the General Tso chicken had the flavors and taste I am used to.
