Extremely Disappointing Experience -- We Will Not Return…read more I've had over 250 OpenTable dining experiences in the U.S. and overseas, and this was, by far, my worst experience with a restaurant hostess. I originally had an OpenTable reservation and needed to add more people to our party. Since the restaurant required a credit card for reservations, I contacted them directly rather than modifying the reservation myself. I was told my credit card would be charged if I canceled and rebooked through OpenTable, so I trusted the restaurant to handle the change. Despite OpenTable showing availability every 15 minutes, the restaurant refused to honor my original reservation time and moved us 45 minutes later. When I spoke with the hostess/manager about keeping our original time, her attitude was incredibly rude and dismissive. She insisted that I open my OpenTable app to prove there was availability. When I did, she simply gestured toward the dining room as if I should check for myself. The entire interaction was unnecessary, unprofessional, and left a terrible first impression. At that point, I would have walked away, but it was Family Weekend at Johns Hopkins, and we were taking our son and his friends out for dinner. We stayed because of the occasion, not because of the service we received. Unfortunately, the food was equally disappointing in several respects. Our appetizers arrived after our entrées had already been served. The surf and turf was excessively salty, as was the build-your-own seafood pasta. The crab cake was delicious, and the broiled seafood dishes were enjoyable, but those were the exceptions. The highlight of the evening was our waitress, who was the better part of an otherwise disappointing experience. For a better seafood experience in Baltimore, I would choose Baltimore Seafood over this restaurant. I took two more tentative bites after the first one because I thought, there is no way they're using American cheese. No, they definitely are. I ended up calling because I was disappointed that I didn't have anything to eat for lunch (it was that bad, which is remarkable when you're talking about tacos), and the staff confirmed, with no irony, that they use white American and further, that they use it on all their dishes. Crazy. I'd also ordered lunch for the staff of a local business who had been really kind to me recently, so I can only hope their food wasn't anything like mine. I probably won't try them again, but hoping their sister restaurant, La Tolteca hasn't similarly declined.
