Living in Las Cruces, the options for delicious Chinese food are limited. We decided to head to El Paso to try China Town, and this hidden gem is worth the drive. We started with hot and sour soup. Delicious! And given that 2 of the 4 of us have been fighting bronchitis, it opened up our sinuses! My "make it or break it" staple is pork fried rice, and their version is different but wonderful. So many places the rice is oily and saturated with soy sauce. Not here. Very simple, plentiful chunks of pork, egg and rice with scallions. Flavored perfectly and a generous portion. The star of the meal was the honey walnut prawns. They were giant prawns, served with rice and a bit of steamed broccoli. They will always be a dish on future visits! We got the special of salt and pepper fish, and it was delicious. I was expecting a whole fish but the dish was bite sized fillets, perfectly fried and depending if you ate the peppers, a nice zing of flavor. We also had beef with string beans and it was quite good. I love crispy green beans and these were perfectly done. Next time it's noodles and buns, to explore! The restaurant had nods to cities with large Chinatown communities, Seattle and San Francisco were 2 of the street signs I was, and it made me happy to have a new find for Chinese food that doesn't require a plane flight! read more

This is why Chinatown remains the best Chinese restaurant in town! The atmosphere captures the charm of a traditional hutong in China, paired with a sophisticated décor that includes Bruce Lee. This decor really elevates your entire dining experience. I really love their burgundy romantic nook which is ideal for a first date experience. It's about as close to authentic Chinese cuisine as you can get here in El Paso. We sampled several great dishes, including the Shanghai Rice Cake with Chicken, Spicy Dumplings, Szechuan String Beans, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Each dish was flavorful and well-prepared, showcasing authentic cooking techniques. This time my fav was their delicious Mapo tofu which is a popular, spicy Chinese dish from the Sichuan province, featuring tofu in a fiery sauce with minced pork meat, fermented broad bean paste and black beans. This creates a signature numbing sensation with bold, savory, and spicy flavor. The service was attentive, though slightly on the slower side. Another great visit to China Town. The kids picked this place to surprise their mother on her birth anniversary. It being a Monday early evening, we were seated quickly, which doesn't always happen at this popular West side spot. Liz started her meal with a delicious Blood Orange Margarita. The kids got their drinks and I went with the hot jasmine tea pot. Liz was gracious to allow all of us our choices on her special day. She ordered the spicy wontons. The kids ordered chicken and pork soup dumplings (1 each). I was impressed that the dumplings came out pretty quick, another perk of being a Monday night maybe? To eat we got a good mix of staples and new things. The kids love and ordered the honey glazed chicken with orange zest. I went with the Singapore noodles. The former was delicious. The Singapore noodles were good, but not the best I've had. Noah also ordered the pan fried dumplings - also tasty. Let's just say we left filled. Stephanie L was a fantastic server. She was quick and caring. She noticed Liz's birthday tiara and made sure to give the birthday girl all her due. We were in and out. We've now been to Chinatown twice together (I've been here a couple of more times than my friend Yoshi), and our experiences have been mixed. On our first visit, the vibe was fun--decor like Hong Kong alleyways with 70s Kung Fu touches, great for groups with big Lazy Susan tables and a lively bar. Service was friendly, and the bartender even let us sample a new cocktail. Some dishes were solid (fresh dumplings and noodles you could watch being made), but others fell flat. The salt & pepper pork chops were mostly bone, the dumplings bland, and the Peking duck had chewy skin with stray feathers. The saving grace was the duck-bone soup--flavorful, veggie-packed, and comforting. Prices were steep, about $150 for two people, plus odd extra fees. We decided to give them another shot, especially the Peking duck, and they comped it this time. It was an improvement: skin crispier, scallions and cucumbers neatly cut, and wraps done well. But it came with hoisin sauce and... sugar. The chef explained it's a South China style, but I've never seen sugar with duck. Their house-made chili sauce would've been a much better pairing. The duck meat was moist, though the cuts were still chunky. Sadly, the duck-bone soup that we loved before was ruined with hoisin and soy sauce--so salty it was almost inedible. Other dishes made up for it: juicy dumplings, the crispy eggplant clay pot (still my favorite), sticky rice dessert (very nostalgic), and strong drinks (though the lychee syrup was bitter). Prices have gone up--duck is now $85, and with other dishes and drinks our bill was over $150 (not counting the comped duck). Service remains a strong point--they even safeguarded my friend's forgotten credit card until he came back. Overall: Chinatown is a beautiful, lively spot in El Paso and worth trying for something different, but it's hit-or-miss. Some dishes stand out (eggplant pork, beef chow fun), others fall flat. If you find a favorite, stick with it. Just be ready for high prices and some inconsistency. read more

Very awesome exterior decorations as we walked in! The interior was even better! It felt very fancy yet oriental. The service was great! Our server was awesome and informative and recommended great drinks and food options. We ended up getting the Singapore noodles and Black pepper beef tenderloin. Ambiance is the only good thing about this. First our family meals came about 10 mins apart for a family of four. We had requested sweet and sour chicken came back pork. Informed the waitress whom was very rude to please take it back it's pork not chicken. She took our plate then came back with it stating the chef and manager both looked at it and confirmed it was chicken I told her it's not it's pork. She then says the chef ate a piece from my daughter's plate to taste it and it was chicken!!! We asked if it's the same plate she is trying to give us the same plate the chef ate off of and she said yes!!!!! Who does this!!? Chinatown is a beautiful establishment, staff is friendly, and their menu is pretty varied. We ordered the calamari, lo mein, another noodle dish, and honey chicken with orange zest. Our calamari was extremely salty and chewy (very overcooked). We noticed the waiter and all he said was sorry he didn't offer to bring us anything else or take the calamari from the table. The place is amazing!! If you love to try a little bit of everything, I suggest coming with a big group! Service was wonderful and food was delicious! My faves were most definitely the soup dumplings (xialongbao), and the wor wonton soup with chicken! We left no plate empty! There were 5 of us and we enjoyed every bit of everything! They did an absolute amazing job decorating and giving it a great vibe and the food is amazing and they serve it family style!!!! I stopped by Chinatown in West El Paso for lunch today and was really impressed! The atmosphere is stylish, decorated like a modern version of what being in China town would look like. Super cool and inviting vibe. They have full bar with a unique cocktail selection, which we really enjoyed--both drinks we tried were excellent. The menu features Chinese cuisine, including dumplings and bao buns, which were a great addition. However, there's no kids' menu, so keep that in mind if you have picky eaters. Service was another highlight...our waiter was fantastic...super attentive, and helpful throughout the meal. The restaurant is beautifully designed, and I appreciate that even with high ceilings I could still make and hear conversation comfortably. Service with Celeste was exceptional from start to finish, even offering to accommodate a meal for a toddler in the absence of a kid's menu. All of the food we ordered came out promptly. The black pepper tenderloin is outrageously delicious--tender meat and a great portion not overpowered by onion and pepper. The combo lo mein was also very tasty. The cocktails, while a bit pricey, were 100% excellent. They have nice happy hour offerings before 6 pm. Loved the experience all around and will return soon to try other menu items. The service is on point and the owners are on site to make sure their newest venture gets off to the perfect start- and they are well on their way. Came here this afternoon to catch up with a pal the just returned from Samoa and we had lots to talk about. We just kept talking and ordering different dishes to try- I had the tenderloin and it was like butter- just so tender and delicious- if you are a steak eater, you will love this dish. All the bao were flavorful and well filled in little pockets that were not so thick- this helped the flavors shine- just great. Everything that you would expect from a chinese restaurant is here. Noodles, dumpling, bao are all in house handmade, We came around 2:30pm so its not busy but they said it can get very busy and food can take 15 mins to arrive to your table as they are made to order. We are a group of 5 so we all order 1 dish each and we all share it so we can sample them Ambiance: you're greeted by a cozy yet elegant atmosphere.
