One of the best places to eat in Roosevelt. Very good. Always the same. Good portions

Busy place with Chinese, American, and Mexican food on the menu. The have a dated but festive decor and a friendly staff. The Egg Drop Soup is unusual, a vegetable soup and egg drop mix. It's okay, but... different. The house special chow fun was pretty good, with huge portions. My companions had moo goo gai pan and shrimp in lobster sauce, both were okay. Egg rolls weren't good at all. My scoring breakdown: Food 3 stars, service 4, value 5. Total would be a 3.5, but since I have to round off... It's a toss up. My better half says 3 stars is being generous, but I thought it wasn't that bad. Staff and prices lead me to round up. read more

Went with family and food was not as great as it looked, ate it not because it was amazing but it's what I paid for. The prices were not worthy for the food and it's did not taste good at all. Also the cheese used for the nachos was not nacho cheese. Have low expectations for when ordering at this place. Left very unsatisfied. (They also add the tip to your bill. :() read more

i'm just ordering fried rice bcs it's amazing that's it. service is decent. and ambience isn't lively as such but it's fine I guess.

I love the super spicy veggie fried rice from this place! It was delicious! Off course you have to request to make it super spicy. The rice is not too mushy and not too oily. Occasionally they have the prime steak stew and it was amazingly delicious. Unfortunately it's only available on certain times like holidays. The service is always great. Off course in a small town where almost everybody know each other. Those waiters almost know what food is the best for you when they sense you came in a bad mood (hangry). The ambiance is good. The room is simple and clean. That's the most important thing. read more

I should have known better. The sign says Chinese, American and Mexican food. Well, I was referred by a local so I gave it a shot. The lunch special was Mongolian Beef with egg drop soup, egg roll and Egg Flower soup. The Egg Roll was okay, soup was decent but had vegetables I have never seen in egg drop soup. Mongolian beef was more like stew sauce, gravy colored. Next to no flavor. It seemed to be a busy place, so I think must not be country enough to like it. If you're satisfied with mediocrity, then this is the place for you. I used to be a cook in a chinese restaurant. I would have been fired for serving this food. The hot and sour soup was so hot from chili peppers that my wife and I could only eat a few spoonfuls. The ham fried rice was passable, the egg rolls had been cooked and (it seemed), kept warm, which made them soft and not crispy. The tangerine chicken was ok. Had to ask for hot mustard. It was served in a squeeze bottle.... Won't be back. We'll drive to Vernal instead. read more

Considering the area, this is a fairly decent place to get some food. Like me, if you come here on work, by day 2 you will be craving for some decent tasting food. I prefer to to take it to my hotel vs sitting there and eating. Its cheap fast food. read more

The pickings are pretty slim along US-40 between Heber and Vernal. But nearly every town has a chinese restaurant. The question is, do you dare venture inside? Chinese restaurants in the boondocks are a real wild card. And from the outside, China Star has all the warning signs that you should just keep driving... meaning the advertisement that they serve Mexican and American food too! I actually avoided the place on my first two visits to Roosevelt, but a local convinced me to give it a try -- with the warning that my eating experience will improve significantly if I get take out and don't eat in the dining room. So I got the General Tao's Chicken combo plate and took it back to the hotel... The hot and sour soup had decent flavor, but was a little thicker than I prefer. The fried shrimp had too much breading, but tasted fine once you peeled off 90% of the batter. The fried wontons ended up in the trash, but in the interest of full disclosure, I am not a fan of fried wontons. The ham fried rice was unremarkable, but edible. The General Tao's Chicken was actually not too bad... they actually used decent hunks of chicken breast! Again, it had a little more breading that I prefer, but not so much that I felt the need to peel it off. The sauce was a little on the sweet side, and not really that spicy, but had a decent flavor. And the most important part -- no ill effects after eating the meal. Overall, I'd consider that a success in Roosevelt. The two stars are based on what I would think if I found the restaurant in a legitimate city. It probably gets three stars for a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. read more
