This is the second time I've been to China Star and it does not fail to impress! Upon arrival my boyfriend and I realized that we forgot our cards at home, but the host offered to manually type in the card information instead for payment. The first time we went was around 8:30pm and we were the only ones there. The second time was around 6pm and the place was packed and lively. The food is really good considering it's a buffet. Food was terrible - overly salted, tasted pretty bad. We hadn't been there in over a year and now I know why. The bathroom had urine on most of the floor, no soap in dispenser, trash can was overflowing to the point of falling on the floor. When I told the person at the pay counter - no reaction of concern. Amazing food and very friendly staff! The pepper chicken was my favorite! Very crunchy and perfect balance between sweet and spicy. The egg rolls were also nice and crispy. Not sure why the 3 stars. We arrived with 5 of our grandchildren about 11. Everything was great. I would suggest more of a variety of kid deserts. Not just the cakes. It seems like good buffets are harder to find but this one always delivers. At least 20 visits and I have never had an issue with the food or service. There are a ton of choices from hibachi to sushi. I definitely have some favorites like the peppered chicken, pepper steak, Mongolian beef and the coconut shrimp. I have eaten just about everything on the lunch and dinner buffer and some of the items are just ok but I have never eaten something that was bad. Give them a shot if your wanting a Chinese buffet that is clean and has good food. read more

Vegan Buffet Galore. China Star, a charming Asian cuisine with a lot of options. China buffets are great places to look for plant-based options; you have to double-check with the establishment. Things to ask about; butter/oil used to cook, egg/non-egg noodles, egg in the fried rice. If you aren't sure, ask. =] During this visit, due to COVID, the staff placed the food on our plates. We were able to ask if items were vegan or not or where the options were. We got -Grilled veggies -lo mein -green beans -potatoes -mushrooms (so good!) *You can also ask the hibachi grill for a vegan dish. COVID Notes -At the time, dining was available at limited capacity. -The wait staff walked with us and served the items we chose. A little awkward, but it makes sense. -Excellent customer service, masks were required, the employees wore masks and gloves. Very clean. -No issues at all. Horrible fucking experience so we come in party of three we told the host that we would like a booth then proceed to take us to a table she ends up accommodating my party of 3 our server comes to brings us our drink we only ordered 3 for whatever reason he had 4 drinks and as he sat the 2nd drink on the table he spilled the whole other drinks all over the table my party of three is completely wet our food is wet they cleaned the table which was still wet and put the WET FOOD BACK ON THE TABLE !!!! We decided that we wanted to sit somewhere else when we go to pay they charge us 60$ for a party of 3 as if it really 20$ per adult which it isn't they wouldn't tell us what were the unexplainable charges then proceed to say we gave you a 7.50 discount WTF! Then to top it she says our server is a good kid and he's tired so if he is and you acknowledged that why is WORKING when silly mistakes like this could have been prevented management is horrible staff are kids under 18 and over worked also this was my first time is lake Jackson horrible experience overall read more

Food was subpar. Do not do the "hibachi" it's raw meat on a salad bar, you scoop up the bloody meat, put on a tray with some noodles and then set it on the "hibachi" window and ring the bell. My food sat there so long I didn't even want it when it was "ready" Zero flavor. Plus old thawed meat My three year old was supposed to eat free but they charged us anyway. (The waitress even asked her how old she was!!) and she literally ate 2 dinner rolls. It was just really bad. Don't waste your money. Go somewhere else. read more

Servers are nice but the food is not good. The best things there are the bread and ice cream. The fried rice has the flavor but the rice was hard, meat chewy, salty, and dry. The baked fish was okay to eat with fried rice. The sushi tuna tasted mushy and the salmon has a light tan color so it wasn't tried. Hot tea has no tea flavor. Very mixed results here. Many of the buffet entree items were old and dry. I understand that it was an hour from closing time but still this was unappealing and unsafe. The hibachi grill is the strength of this place and absolutely lived up to that billing. I got pork, cabbage, mushrooms, green bell peppers, and minced garlic with hibachi sauce and sezchuan sauce. Loved it! The desserts were good tonight. I had mocha cake, cheesecake, mint chocolate chip ice cream and tapioca. The restrooms looked like a construction zone. I was sat in a booth that had a strong urine smell.. everyone at my table was disgusted and almost didn't eat. We were moved and less than 5 mins someone was sat at the same booth which didn't stay more than 15 minutes and when walking out I mentioned it to them and they said they were disgusted and lost all appetite. I asked for one of 3 buffet meals to be removed because one didn't eat after as well as the wait staff telling the manager he didnt.. she refused to remove a meal and said she would give me a discount. What a discount of $3.20 to sit in a urine soaked booth and eat a meal!. Disgusting I will never be back and I will call corporate. I also gave the leaving guest sat in the same booth behind me the number as well. I paid 54 bucks and some change to sit in urine and eat a meal! I'm also considering calling the health department on the establishment for its food!. Not worth anything. Disgusting all around, the cantaloupe was a red color, the food was dry as it had been out all day under a heat lamp. The waitress was great and she was tipped well.. the management is no good with no consideration to customer service! The bad food was not complaint, it was sitting in a urine soaked booth that was the issue with no concern from management, only telling the waitress it was her job to clean the booth. Lots of choices! I was surprised to see coconut shrimp and orange chicken. Two of my favs and I can't recall ever seeing these on any buffet. Restaurant is very clean, buffet well stocked. Lots of healthy choices rather than just fried food. They also have a variety of sushi which was yummy. We went on a Monday for lunch. We were right away. Restaurant was clean and staff was very friendly. Food was very good with a lot of variety. Tried a lot of different food and all was good.
