I quit ordering takeout because he kept sending me home with no garnishments or maybe one slice of lemon. Today we ate in the restaurant and of course I had to ask them to please return the iceberg lettuce to the kitchen that I came to eat pho with bean sprouts. He came back with bean sprouts. Every time I eat there the pho is different. This time it had overcooked peas in it. Gross. I'm not sure why they continue to run out of food by 2 o'clock every day. Today was the last time We eat there. There's a reason the prices are so low. Pot Luck. I'd give 2 stars but I Ate it anyways.

I have never stepped foot inside the restaurant so I have zero idea how the service is or if it is clean. This review is solely based on the food taste. I usually get hot and sour soup, "cream cheese puffs" and general tso's chicken. It is really a hit or miss. Sometimes the food is great. It will be hot and flavorful. Other times, like tonight it was tasteless and bland. The hot and sour soup barely had any flavor. It was hot. The cream cheese puffs were probably the best thing of the night. However the dipping sauce is a really watered down version of a sweet and sour. I am not sure if they water it down to cut cost or if it is just because it is Sunday. Usually General Tso's is zesty and spicy, but it seriously lacked any flavor tonight. Again, maybe it was an off night. Sunday at 7pm might not be the best time to order here. Keep in mind this is just standard Chinese takeout style food. So again, it is just hit or miss. Good luck, I hope you get it on a good night.

But all things must change and I checked out Umi Sushi & Ramen for dinner on a Sunday evening. Parking is easy in their complimentary lot that they share with a bunch of other businesses. Service (4.5/5): We were seated at a booth in the corner and our waitress made sure to check on us regularly. A little too much for my liking but over-service is certainly better than under-service. She was friendly too so I appreciate the effort. Ambiance (3/5): Your typical neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Cozy yet unremarkable. Which isn't a bad thing. I wasn't looking for fine dining. Drinks (4.5/5): I'm a bit predictable when it comes to my drinking habits at Japanese restaurants. Give me a hot house sake and a Japanese beer. Rinse repeat. Umi delivered here. And for a good price. Happy camper. Food (3/5): This is where I was wanting a little more. We started off with the edamame as an appetizer. It was a bit bland. It needed a little salt. Easy fix. From there, I went with a specialty sushi roll called the Japanese lasagna. How can I say no to a dish like that? While the name was fantastic, the roll was a little underwhelming. And I was still hungry. So I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. I've had this classic ramen dish many of times and I've seen it done at a high level. Umi's attempt is mediocre. The broth hasn't had the care that is needed for a dish like this. Nor was the pork chasu up to par. Not a bad dish, but again, underwhelming. Despite the quantity of food I ordered, the price was acceptable. At least there's that. I'm not a connoisseur of the dining scene in Angleton but I'd venture to guess that it's one of the solid options in town.

The Grape Taste presents itself as a minimalist concept, but in practice it feels like a restaurant…read moretrying to be several identities at once. The menu is intentionally restrained in structure, yet broad in direction cheese trays. unexpected, almost out of place for a small establishment, tapas as a newer addition, a strong emphasis on wine with a sweet wine flight, alongside steaks, sides, pastas, and even burgers. There's ambition in the variety, though not always cohesion. Seafood leans heavily on tilapia, which appears disproportionately across the fish selection. Not inherently negative, but noticeable. The ribeye, priced at $33.95, carried mixed execution. tender in parts, but inconsistent with noticeable dry sections. The scallops arrived cold, which significantly disrupted what should have been a highlight dish. Service was not the issue. Atmosphere was calm, controlled, and easy to sit in without distraction. The space itself does not fight the experience. it simply holds it. In totality, the restaurant lands in an uneven space: capable, sometimes enjoyable, but inconsistent in execution where it matters most. 4/5. good, but not well. -L.T
