You know what you're going to get every time you order. We've had popcorn chicken (5/5), pork cutlet (4.5/5), fish fillet (4/5), braised beef (4/5), stinky tofu (3.5/5 for me but others give it 4/5), dry noodles with Taiwanese sausage (4/5), braised beef soup noodles (4/5). The sides are consistent in what you get and the nice thing is you get to choose 3 with bento boxes. The complimentary soup is alway nice and my rating varies depending on what they made that day but never below 3/5. Price: At prices between 10-12$, this is a great place to get takeout lunch or dinner.

Gluten with preserved vegetable and braised tofu pocket were both really sweet, three cup eggplant didn't have much sauce, bittermelon with egg had very little egg, and the stir-fried mustard was quite bitter. When calling to check if the soup of the day was vegetarian, I was told it was chicken broth and asked to make a note not to have it included, only to end up receiving a wintermelon soup that didn't taste of chicken, so not sure what happened there. The seaweed was great though.

A few weeks ago, I was looking at my Fantuan app. There was a flash deal on a number of dishes. One of them was the curry beef or beef brisket. It was on rice and came with your choice of beverage. I went with these items: - Curry beef brisket on steamed rice, with an iced lemon tea - Shanghai-style noodles I paid with a credit card. I got an estimated time to pick up my order. This eatery is in a plaza roughly fifteen minutes from my home. My issue was the signage when I got to this restaurant. On Fantuan, this business is listed as Red Tea House. If you can't read traditional Chinese, you'd think that the place is called Hong Kong Beef Noodles, as it's the only English sign that you see. If you can read Chinese, the three characters literally translate to Red Tea Street. Maybe it's me. A house and a street are two different objects. I don't get the translation. At least the sign is red, to match the first character. There was lots of parking in this plaza. I backed into a spot and walked in. It's a Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng. I have only visited Hong Kong once and loved the food. There were several folks eating when I walked in. I waited at the back by the payment area for someone. I looked at the blue Fantuan bag in front of me. It looked like my order. I got a woman who first started to speak to me in Mandarin. I don't speak it. I spoke to her in English. She switched to Cantonese. I did, too. She asked me what I had ordered. Both items were listed in English on Fantuan. Instead, we went with my order number in Cantonese. The blue bag was indeed my order. I thanked her in Cantonese and left. I drove home to enjoy my food. It was dinner. I had half of each dish. I then had the rest the following day. The curry sauce in the curry beef brisket was excellent. It was great mixing it with rice. I also enjoyed the cubed potatoes and bell peppers. I enjoyed the actual beef brisket. The downside was that the brisket had a lot of tough parts attached to it.. It wasn't worth getting this dish. I loved my iced lemon tea. It was cold and was exactly what I needed on a hot summery day. The shanghai-style noodles were delicious. I loved the chicken, veggies, and thick noodles. I'd order this dish again in a heartbeat. Excellent! I'd return to try more items on the menu. Maybe I should have ordered the curry beef. I'd steer away from anything with beef brisket. (315)

Just when…read moreyou thought all wonton soups are the same, I just tried their small takeout portion and OMG this is the best wonton soup and there's no close second! I've never seen wontons so huge with so much meat in them! Even cutting the wonton in half I couldn't fit the half in my mouth! And the best part is that in addition to the pork wonton there were also chunks of sliced pork mixed in with the broth! The ratio of wonton and pork to soup base was easily 90% meat and 10% soup! Look at the photos I just added and see for yourself! ----------- Original review: We decided to come this restaurant for my birthday this past Monday on a recommendation from my neighbor. WOW we made a great choice! Not sure what some of the negative reviewers were expecting, but our entire experience was perfection! Dine-in: Yes we knew ahead of time this restaurant was mostly take-out, but they still have dine-in, and sure it's not a 5-star seating experience, but if that's what you want, then go pay 100x more an an upscale restaurant. Growing up in NYC, the dine-in experience here reminded me of almost every Chinese restaurant on Canal Street (Chinatown in lower Manhattan) - very authentic, where the focus is on the food and service, not the seating and decor, so we all actually enjoyed the atmosphere. Food: There were 4 of us (all very big eaters and starving) so we ordered the "Dinner for Four Q" special: 4 egg rolls, chicken fried rice, chicken Chow Mein, beef with broccoli, sweet & sour chicken balls and breaded jumbo shrimp PLUS the lemon chicken (highly recommended by my neighbor). WOW was the food outstanding! HUGE portions (we were using the other tables to place the food trays) and all very tasty and authentic! The chicken balls were 90-95% mostly tender juicy meat (not mostly breading like other places), and the lemon chicken was the best I've ever had (trust me, I've tried hundreds from other restaurants) and they did not hold back on the sauce - half the container box filled with it, of which was spectacular, not tasteless and overly tangy like other sauces)! We were all stuffed and every single dish we ordered was still at least half full! Today is Friday and I'm still enjoying left-overs! (since it was my b-day I took most of the leftovers ) Service: All the food came piping hot and fresh very fast! Ruby was a ray of sunshine full of joy, constantly smiling, making sure we had everything we needed, and even cracking a few jokes during our festivities. She even re-packaged all the leftovers in bags without us even having to ask! For our first time dining at this restaurant all of us meeting up coming from Toronto, London and Guelph for my birthday, we are so glad we chose this restaurant, and will all be making the trek back (individually and collectively) to this restaurant, as everything was PERFECTION! Thank you Ruby for the excellent food and service, and the fun and amazing experience - we will see you again soon!

Perusing the menu for Chinese Food Gallery, I seemed pretty confident exactly what type of food I would get. I was so right. We were feeling a little peckish after spending the afternoon building an Ikea TV stand, so we decided to go with the Dinner for 2 ("2 Egg rolls, Chicken Chop Suey, Jar-Do Wings, Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, Chicken Fried Rice") and we added a plate of the Stir Fried Chinese Broccoli to our order. Everything was exactly as I pictured it (and hoped it would be). None of the items reminded me of the authentic Chinese food I've eaten over the years, but was the food comforting and well prepared? It absolutely was. Everything tasted fresh and there were some strong flavors in the separate dishes. (The bright orange sauce for the sweet & sour chicken balls was exactly as sweet as I was hoping.) I certainly wouldn't check out Chinese Food Gallery if you're looking for an authentic experience, but if you're in the mood for some old-school, nostalgic eats, it certainly fits the bill.

It is a little pricey compared to our other place but I think it is worth the extra considering there isn't much around (as far as i know, if you have suggestions that would be great) One thing I would recommend them changing on one of thier dishes would be the shrimp fried rice. Instead of unflavoured jumbo shrimp try adding some cooked miniature shrimps, would be a lot tastier rice for sure. Still good though. The restaurant is small but quite clean inside. It looks like they recently renovated. The service wasn't as good as some of the other reviews suggested, but it was pretty much what you would expect from a typical Hong Kong café--very casual. We ordered the chicken with vegetables. There was a good variety of vegetables, and the portions were quite large. However, the plate was so small that it was difficult to get to the food underneath if it wasn't on top. I don't understand why they couldn't simply use a bigger plate, which seems like the easiest solution after a renovation. The prices weren't as good as we had anticipated. Maybe we just didn't order the right dishes. They also offer dish combos, but instead of letting you choose the dishes, they have set combinations to choose from, very limited choices.
