I ordered takeout for the first time from China Rose on a rainy Sunday afternoon and was seriously impressed. The packaging alone stood out -- everything arrived in a thermal bag and was packed perfectly. The food was excellent and tasted just like we were dining in the restaurant. Everything was very fresh and still hot. Our order included two sesame chickens, General Tso's chicken, all with fried rice, plus pork rolls, wonton soup, and crab rangoon. Every single item was amazing -- no misses at all. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for great Chinese food and top-notch takeout service. Thought we'd try a new Chinese restaurant so we called an order in to go. BIG mistake! I always get Genrl Tso's. This time I got Genrl Tso's Chicken AND shrimp. O.M.G. It was terrible. We tried China Rose for the first time last night and were impressed. Ordered online and my husband picked it up - he said they are doing takeout only and are still taking covid precautions - which is fine since we're from NY and all the good Chinese places are takeout anyway. He likes chicken chow mein and said it tasted like what he remembers. I tried a bite and it was plain but good, with celery, carrots, onions, and Napa cabbage. I'm spicy so I got garlic shrimp, and it could have been a little spicier but the garlic level and sauce flavor was great. It had zucchini, carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, snow peas, and they didn't skimp on the shrimp. When ordering online you can add instructions, so next time I might ask for medium spicy. The fried rice was good and tasted perfect. I was worried because a lot of places around here make bright yellow fried rice and it's awful. The hot and sour soup was good, but not my favorite. The flavor was great and it had the correct ingredients, but they used soft tofu instead of firm, and it was a little too slippery for me to order again. We also got egg rolls which were crispy, yummy, and actually had filling (how do some many places get these wrong?). There's nothing wrong with generic American-style Chinese food ... when it's done right, and that's something that this place struggles with. I've never dined in, and don't really want to - it has your kinda typical "strip mall Chinese restaurant" dinginess, so it's all been takeout/delivery. The egg rolls are decent, as are the crab rangoons. The soups are "meh" - pretty flavorless. As far as main courses go, the lo mein is okay. Likewise, the cashew chicken is okay - nothing special, but the chicken is tender enough and they give you a decent amount of cashews. The General Tso's chicken is pretty disappointing; the sauce is pretty much like anybody else's but they seem to hide a lot of really crappy chicken in there - like eraser-tough and/or stringy. Same with the orange chicken - seems like wherever they buy the battered chicken nuggets (I'm assuming they don't make them at the restaurant), they use really low-quality scrap meat. The garlic pork is also disappointing - this is supposed to be a somewhat spicy, or at least flavorful, dish, and theirs is totally bland. Likewise, the roast park is just "sorta there" - not terrible, but not more than okay either. I've got to think that a little searching/effort will find you a better place than this, but if this is your only option ... well, it's okay, I guess. Avoid the deep-fried stuff and the soups, and go for the simpler stir-fried dishes like cashew chicken. read more

I ordered from here twice and both times the food was dry, old, and off putting. The first time I placed the order, it took over an hour for them to finally start preparing the food. After trying to contact them about the status, they said it was a power outage. After a few weeks, I decided to give them another try and had the same, exact experience. I love a Chinese place that delivers! The food is priced well and it only took about 40 mins to receive and I had a pretty big order. Horrible experience; we ordered by mistake for New Years eve take out dinner with friends. We normally order from China Palace on Mountain Street but again our mistake. When we walked in its only carry out no inside dining and once inside you understand why the place is filthy and disgusting. We asked for our order and they couldn't locate it and didnt offer to retake it, at that point we decided to go order at our regular china palace. When we returned home with food my wife was receiving harrasing Phone calls from china rose to pick up our order, they must have called four times from different numbers and didnt believe that they couldn't locate our order when we tried to pick up. Nice take-out style Chinese restaurant. You can eat in if you choose. There is nothing fancy about this place. It serves all your Americanized favorites. The combo meals are good and reasonably priced. On this occasion, I had Hunan chicken with fried rice and a bowl of hot and sour soup. Nice flavor in the Hunan chicken, but it needed more veggies. I prefer a nice balance of protein & veggies. The fried rice was good, light and not heavy. The hot sour soup was good, but I prefer the type that is a little more brown in color than red....the brown color exemplifies the soup was cooked longer and developed a deeper flavor. My wife had the chicken egg foo yung with fried rice an an egg roll combo. The thick brown sauce was flavorful and complimented the eggs well. The egg was nice and crisp with cabbage and fried pork. My son got shrimp with mixed veggies in brown sauce with white rice. He is limited in what he can order due to an egg & milk allergy. This restaurant has been very accommodating. Husband went and ordered food and waited on it, we live maybe 2 minutes from China Rose, chicken and broccoli was cold like refrigerator cold, dumplings were burnt, ordered egg rolls not sure what the rolls we got were. That's what China Rose used to be. About a decade ago, China Rose was a nice little Chinese spot hidden in the back of Kernersville! Over the years something changed, possibly ownership, and at times it was open and other times closed. Against my better judgement, and fear of the BEST NYC Chinese restaurant in the Triad finding out, I gave China Rose another shot. The pork lo mein was just there. The wonton soup was just awful, chewy, and canned soup tasting. The General Tso was just chicken drenched in a bright orange sugar mess. Kernersville needed a hole in the wall Chinese spot where you could get that comfort food "Chinese Style ". Sadly, they used to have that little gem. read more

Lately I have changed my diet to Vegan and found that China Rose is one of the few restaurants in the neighborhood that serves good vegetarian food. Been going here for years but tonight will be the last - the food is usually okay but tonight the egg rolls were not edible. One of he combos - the rice tasted bad plus it had a long hair in it. I decided to return it. I walked in and asked the young woman to come to the side so as not to embarrass her. She decided to yell at me in front of her customers. Then she said I ate too much and I had to throw it away. I said no - you can throw it away and she yelled that I had to do it. Then she said I would only get credit for 4 of the 5 egg rolls I had purchased. I said why, she said because there was only 4 there - I told her the other one was there but we had taken it apart to see what was wrong with it - "No Credit" then the young man decided he would get in my face and tell me that the egg rolls were free - I said no they are part of the cost of the combo. He screamed at the woman not to give me a refund. Then he started screaming I had to throw the food away - I told him it was the trash they fed me and they could throw it away. China Rose is an above average, mostly take out restaurant on North Main Street in Kernersville. My family and I have ordered out about 20 times in the past 9 months and, except for on occasional over-cooked tofu, the meals have been satisfactory. We mostly order tofu , mei fun or vegetable chow mein. Nothing special but not bad. This evening we decided to eat in at China Rose. No complaints about the food. However, and this is a first for me, when I requested three cups for water, I was told that each cup would cost 50 cents, essentially for tap water and a styroform cup. I tried to explain that we were regular customers and that such a charge was highly unusual. Nevertheless, I was told that the charge would be $1 with one cup thrown in for free. I dutifully paid the dollar and vowed to myself that I would never return there again;. Hence the true definition of penny wise and pound foolish. read more

I called attempting to place an order for take out around 6pm today and no ever answered the phone, after trying to call a few more times someone actually picked up the phone and immediately hung up. So unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience with China Rose this evening, although I should say lack of an experience because no one would even answer the phone so I could place my order. My family and I eat here quite often and have never experienced anything like this from them. So I'm disappointed to have to leave a negative review. But not answering your phone during dinner hours on a week night is unacceptable. read more
