Our first time ordering from here. The chicken and veg had no taste. I put extra soy sauce on it to get some taste. Ordered the combination and did not get the soup. Haven't gotten my food yet so I can't judge the food. BUT, we had to stand up front for 5 mins before being seated! Then another couple comes in behind us and gets seated a few mins after us. BUTTTTTT after being seated had to wait 15 mins to get our order taken (which I about decided to go somewhere else), THEN the server takes the order of the people that came in way after us!!! Absolutely ridiculous service!!! They have it all backwards. but then right after got our order. I'm just praying to god the food is good because if not I'm really going to be pissed. The food was good but they are very stingy. We ordered two soup and were only allowed 1 bag of crunch noodles and with three egg rolls give 1 hot mustard an 1 duck had to pay more for extra. Better watch going here they will rip you off and not care one bit. I ordered dinner combination. Which is supposed to include-entree, soup, and egg roll. I received meal with no egg roll and was charged extra for soup and $2 more for entree. I highly don't recommend. When I mentioned it they said well we charged you for this. It was okay, I've had better but it was good comfort food. I had the Kung Pao shrimp and vegetable dumplings. The dumplings had very little flavor and the dipping sauce was lacking flavor as well. Really surprised to see some of these negative reviews. I've found the food to be delicious. The Crab Rangoon is the best I've ever had. The Cilantro Chicken is delicious and has brought me back three times. Soups are flavorful. There are always customers and at noon today there was not an empty table. I was suggested to try China Panda and was told that it was the best Chinese is Athens County. With high hopes, my roommates and I scheduled a movie night with takeout. The young girl (most likely the daughter of the owners) was relatively kind. Our order came out missing items and my roommate thought that she had ordered the combination platters. The girl became petty and not willing to solve the problem. I asked for an order of three eggrolls and one order of crab rangoon. We get home, and we were missing an eggroll. This wasn't that bad since they aren't that expensive and mistakes happen, but this mistake was after they missed other items in our order. In all, the experience was average and the food was mediocre for the price of $20 per person. For that, I suggest you go to Columbus, dress to the nines and get (most likely) higher quality food in the same cuisine bracket. If you do go here, check your order AND count all the items internally before you leave. read more

I love eating here whenever I can. I ordered pickup many times this year. My order was ready very quickly and the food is always delicious. With the pandemic restrictions they have made it very easy to pickup my order without any contact with anyone. They have a very extensive menu and a wonderful variety of options. I don't know if they are open for dine-in yet as I haven't been there for a little over a month but I look forward to it when they do open the dining room again. read more

Not bad for a small town. If you have a sushi craving, this will do the trick. Although, I recommend the Chinese menu. I've dined here a couple times, all on the Chinese menu, and found they that it's pretty authentic if you know what to order (ie. none of those set combos, eat family style). I like the udon noodles (since I'm usually only in Athens during Christmas), but it's more like Chinese soup noodles than Japanese udon noodles. It seems to be a popular place for international students looking for some decent Chinese food. This time we felt comfortable ordering sushi (sushi in the middle of Ohio?!) We ordered sushi for 2. The salmon yellow tail, and white fish tasted pretty fresh. I had a few pieces of questionable tuna and mackerel, but it's been more than 24hrs and the tummy is a-ok. It was clean and quiet and generally welcoming. When we have our orders the server didn't write anything down and with a group of 3 ordering combo platters, and also from the sushi bar.. it was impressive. All the food same back correctly and rather quickly. I usually start with 5 stars and based on things or combinations of things I take stars off. So minus 1 star for the price of sushi. 1 piece is about $2-3 and minus another star because the sweet tea was rather odd tasting. I also had the general tso chicken combo that came with rice and an egg roll. The sauce had a slightly different flavor than I was used to, I wasn't attracted to it. Been going for nearly 10 years since we moved here. In all honesty it's had it's ups and downs and yeah they could use some new carpet but they recently re-upholstered the seats. There was a 1 year stretch where it was kinda mediocre. They re-made the menu and the sushi chief is far more skilled now. Their lunch specials are tops and a very good deal! Ohio has many good points, but having amazing Chinese restaurants is not one of them. If you travel to either coast, it seems like you are virtually accosted by good Chinese restaurants. Having eaten at some of them, I know the difference between them and the ones back home in Ohio. China Panda is a typical Mid-Western Chinese restaurant chain. (Yes, it is a chain.) It is not bad, and if you eat there, (as my husband and I did on Christmas when nothing else was open) it will do the job OK. If you want a perfect Chinese meal where every dish is done just right, head to a coast, or to the far better China Fortune in Athens. Update: upon eating here again, I will never return. I've enjoyed pretty much every dish I've ever ordered from China Panda. The food comes out quickly whether ordering dine-in or carry-out. I enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff is usually very friendly and most tables are usually filled with patrons of the restaurant. My one complaint is that there always seems to be old NBA games featuring Scottie Pippen on the TV. The children of the employees also seem to feel free to walk around the restaurant. read more

I think our waiter was one of the sushi chefs or something because he was so jumbled and confused. Poor guy lol. We ordered shrimp and veggie tempura bento boxes and the quantity of food was huge! Finally, a decent sushi joint, albeit next to the Radio Shack. I had the chirashi plate--perfectly cut, fresh fish at the right tempurature, and an appropriate amount of food. Best Chinese food restaurant in Athens and I've eaten at every one in town. Good quality has been consistently good on both the Chinese and Japanese menus. Just ate here for the first time in over a year and it was better than I remembered it. However, they have some new waiter staff now and they are not very polite. My table got our check and were having a conversation when we were interrupted by our waitress asking if we were ready to pay. I would take off half a star for service if I could, but the service wasn't bad enough to prevent me from eating there. 4 Stars based on relative quality in this area. Good chinese food for a small town. I was thankful to enjoy my lunch special of chicken with mixed vegetables in brown sauce w fried rice and egg drop soup. The fries rice was quite good. The meal was enjoyable, chinese restaurants are better in nearby Columbus, but this place was better than others I've tried in the area. My lunch was well worth six dollars. I have eaten at China Panda quite a few times and have really never had a bad experience. I don't eat a vast selection of Chinese food, but what I do eat, of the few places I have had it, theirs is the best. They also have sushi which my friend, who lived in Japan for 3 years, says is pretty good so I think that is a strong review on the sushi. When eating in, the service is fine. The language barrier is a 'issue'. If you are ordering on the phone or in person, it is a bit of a problem. It is difficult to get your point accross on something extra like...extra egg or cashews on the fried rice is almost not worth the hassle. And I think all Chinese food is expensive but this is high, buit worth it. If I go to town to get take out for 7 of us, it is not unusual for it to be $70+. The other night for 3 of us, it was almost $40. BOIL IT DOWN- best Chinese food in Athens. Best sushi in Athens. Food is hot and made fresh for take-out. The dining room is nice and clean. Staff friendly, although limited English skills. Semi-expensive. Go. You won't regret. Pass up Lams Garden and the terrible buffet for good food, and cleanliness. read more

Average at best. The combo Kung Pao shrimp dinner was only mildly spicy and consisted of mainly celery,green peppers, and peanuts. I dont know if this is an issue with non-combo orders but my portion size was small. This was a pint serving and the egg-roll was a half of an egg-roll and this was for dinner. This cost $8 and its not a good sign when you spend that much for dinner and you are still hungry when you are done. I am intrigued by the sushi side of things so I will give that a try but at this point a big miss for me. read more

The waitress/ owner didn't greet us, and she just dropped that two books of menus on our table without even asking us if we want some water. I have been eating here since they opened and I am sad to say I won't be going back. Quality has gone so far downhill. Chicken is always cheap and grisly and (alarmingly) sometimes pieces in my meal are cold! Best sushi in Athens county! I have so many good memories here. This is where I got my start into eating sushi, the sushi chef would make me so many unique and special sushi! He would make me rolls unique to my taste, really teaching me the joy in sushi. Even making me things that were not on the menu. The staff was so nice and treated me with such great hospitality! We have had Chinese and Japanese all over the country and China Panda ranks very high on that scale 1. Standard Chinese Menu, We love the flavor and how its prepared and we haven't came across anything that we didn't like 2. Authentic Chinese Menu (upon request), We have ordered a lot off this menu and everything was perfect 3. Japanese Menu, We order the Yaki Udon, Yaki Soba and Sushi all the time and the Menu over all seems to be our favorite. We have had Sushi all over the country and numerous times in Seattle and if you want Sushi that is prepared and is pretty much the same then China Panda is your place. The Sushi here is great! Alaska and Rose Rolls are our favorite but also order the Volcano Roll, Tuna, Spicy Tuna and California Roll. The service here is awesome! Everyone is so nice and willing to help you with whatever it is and make sure your experience is pleasant, this includes Kenny and Jessica. They are a treat to be around..
