I have had the pleasure of knowing this family owned and extremely popular restaurant since they opened over 25+ years. The food is ALWAYS on point with very generous servings, and the food is by far the very best Chinese food I have ever had. I always highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to the area, and know some people travel over an hour to eat here. It's not a fancy place, but it is a staple to our community and I simply cannot imagine not having their food, or wonderful family in our town. The food is always great. I've been to Chinese restaurants in surrounding towns; Lancaster, Gallipolis, Jackson, Athens, and Chillicothe, etc. Peking Cook's food is the best. This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area, known as "Jonnies" by the locals. They make great food at a good price. We've sampled a number of items, and they do everything pretty well. The buffet is small, but they do a good job of keeping food coming out. As a previous reviewer said, don't let the appearance put you off. I arrived shortly after opening time (11:00 am). There were already 10 people seated in the small dining room. I intended to order off the menu, but after the gentleman suggested the buffet and I saw the freshly cooked food coming off the grill, I agreed. Good decision. The buffet was relatively small - about 8 main dishes plus the usual sides. Everything I tried was delicious. (The hot and sour soup had a bit of a kick.). I live in a bigger town about 40 miles away and we have no Chinese food of this quantity. Business continued to be brisk the entire time I was there. read more

If it's Friday night, it must be Peking Cook. We're regular customers and "the usual" for us is an order of egg drop soup for me and hot 'n sour soup for him. It also includes the BBQ pork appetizer - the sauce is great. We ordered from the combination platters this time around: (one) Orange Beef with Vegetables and (one) Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables. Each combination platter comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. If you're a fan of garlic, you'll love the Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables. Talk about garlic? Wow! The veges are fresh and the shrimp is HUGE! The fried rice is a little dry, I'd say, so have the soy sauce handy. Finally, y'know those little "fried crackers" that come with the soup? 9 times out of 10 they're stale. The one and only consistent criticism I have of Peking Cook take-out. Otherwise, as fans of Johnny's have said - BEST Chinese around. read more

Johnny's is arguably my favorite Chinese restaurant, but I may be a bit biased as I was raised eating there. Last night we ordered a spread: Crab rangoons, house lo mein, and general tsos combination platters with fried rice and egg rolls. The rangoons were perfectly crunchy and generously filled. The lo mein was loaded with pork, chicken, shrimp, and an assortment of veggies. The General tsos flavor was on point, and all pieces of meat had the perfect breading to meat ratio. The egg rolls and fried rice were also good. Downfalls were a thirty minute wait and them only accepting cash. Overall I was pleased and will continue from order from here when home. read more

Don't let the outside appearance scare you off, it's really good chinese place. The inside used to look really iffy as far as decor but they sort of recently remodeled and changed the flooring, walls etc. Looks much better!The owners are very nice people, and run a very clean place. They have a buffet everyday from 11-3pm that's around $6, which is a great price. They have a small buffet with a lot of your standard american chinese highlights. It's a very popular local spot so the dining area can get very crowded on holidays and weekends/ lunch time. read more

Considering the area, it's not too bad. It's not a place you are going to go out to or get excited about, but it's your average Chinese take out when you need options. They have a decent lunch buffet. There is nothing special about the building. Matter of fact you could be scared away if looks concern you. But the proprietors are nice people. Just like the other reviews mention the appearance of Peking Cook (or "Jonny's" as the locals call it) can make you second guess eating here but obviously they have to follow some kind of health code so the food is worth it for us. They have pretty good general tso's chicken, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoon. The owners are super friendly and they have a cheap daily lunch buffet. During buffet hours it can be hard to find seating because there's not a whole lot of seating and the place can get pretty packed. Most tables seat four people, and there is only one large table and I think it only seats six. They still don't accept credit/debit card so make sure you bring cash when eating here! read more

My #1 go to Chinese food place. The building may need updated, but Johnny and his family always have good food. Food is usually ready in 20mins or less. Even when they are busy it doesn't take long to get your food. But they only accept cash and if you are short on cash a little bit they may not care if you are one of their loyal customers. read more

It's as good as you're gonna get it in the middle of nowhere, especially for Chinese takeout. They have a good lunch buffet that is very cheap and good if you're starving and want to load up on deep fried chicken with veggies and a egg roll on the side. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Only downside for me is it is not the cleanest or best kept, but it's not a complete dump or anything. read more
