This China Moon (one of three - others are in Newport and Lyndonville which is in northern Vermont) was pretty good. However, it was not as good as the one in Derby (can't say anything about the one in Lyndonville as I have never been there before). The price is cheaper if you come on a Mon-Thur rather than on Fri or Sat. The buffet is quite extensive with crab legs and shrimp. This buffet also serves soft serve ice cream. Higher-end average. I've been coming here occasionally for seven years, but mostly in the last year. I've never had a bad experience here; the food's always tasted good and the aesthetic and cleanliness are among the best I've encountered in NH/VT buffets. The food is hot and some dishes are even visibility steaming (just to address some experiences others described). Take smaller plates, maybe. For years, I frequented the China Moon Buffet in Lyndonville, which is now a different and better Chinese restaurant called Lyndonville Buffet; but I mention it because this one in White River Junction is quite cleaner. Dusty blinds and windowsills in some places I've been can be unappetizing. There's usually not much going the extra mile in these buffets, and this isn't an exception. I'm knocking a star off for the selection being typically small and some items being frightfully bland. That being said, the staff has never been difficult or rude to me. A colleague of mine and I are in town for work. We decided to eat here because it was a couple blocks from the hotel where we are staying, and we didn't feel like getting back in the car after the long drive. It is buffet style, but has a nice mix of different types of dishes that seemed fresh and were constantly being refilled. If you are a vegetarian, this is probably not a good place to eat, though, because almost everything had meat and/or seafood in it. Was it the best chinese buffet I've ever had? no. was it the worst? no. 3 stars for China Moon for being open and fully stocked after driving 4.5 hours from Boston (should've only taken 2.25hours, but that's what we get for leaving on a Friday at 4pm on a 3 day weekend.) we were famished! we were tired! we arrived at the condo we were staying at (it was probably 45degrees inside) and knew we were going to have to be out of the condo for at least an hour to let it heat up, China Moon was open. and even if the locals tell you to avoid this place like the plague, it really isn't that bad. Yes, there are better options, but if you need to be fed immediately, I wouldn't turn my nose up at this place. My parents have eaten here a bunch of times and really like it. The hot tea was definitely the high point, absolutely delicious. Order the hot tea. The desserts were not bad either. The buffet was, you know, your normal chinese buffet. My husband quite enjoyed the sushi actually. I thoroughly enjoyed the crab rangoon among other deliciously fried goodies. The green bean dish was extra tasty, we both went back for seconds on that one. There was some coconut chicken dish that was so delicious, I've never had coconut chicken like that before. Is the food great for you? obviously not, but it's not like you're eating it every day, indulge! They had a sign in the restaurant that I really liked, it said something like "please take what you would like, and eat what you take, you can always come back for what you like." love that. We were the last ones in the restaurant, and the people who take the food back to the kitchen at the end of the night were nice enough to check if we were done eating before cleaning up. that was super nice of them. read more

Who doesn't love a buffet? Priced just right and a great mix of Chinese and America food. The wait staff is pretty attentive and the place is very clean. When we have relatives or friends from out of town this is where we go. It's affordable and good. read more

I stumbled into this buffet after hiking a week on the Appalachian Trail in Vermont. I ate fast so I didn't taste much of my food, but I don't recall it being bad. I ordered a bottle of the Long Trail Ale, and the hostess was not happy when I tried to carry the empty bottle out with me as a souvenir. read more

I travel quite frequently and after a full day of flying there were few choices for dinner in the immediate area by my hotel. Fast food just wasn't what I was looking for when I saw this place as I drove by. I parked and gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with the food at China Moon. I haven't been to any of the others as some of the reviews indicate there are. I just returned to the US from South East Asia (including China) 2 months ago so my bar for Chinese food is kind of high. For a Chinese buffet this really isn't bad at all. I've been here 3 times and the food is pretty fresh and not the usual steam table dried out items that they leave out all afternoon. I was going through the line and a person came out and replaced the crab rangoon with fresh and didn't dump the old ones on top like you so often see. I travel to the area every other week and find myself coming back to this place. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The food is about average or slightly above average than your typical Chinese Buffet. There is plenty of choices and you will have plenty to eat. Though the location is convenient the food is bland and overly greasy. The price is fair so long as its the buffet your getting.The service is friendly and they were prompt on drinks. The bathrooms were dirty, the smells ruined my appetite and the locks on the stall doors were not working. We left the restaurant shortly after using the bathrooms...so if you must use them....finish eating first. I find that the wait staff has NO personality, unfriendly, and when you ask for something she looks like you asked her to clean the floor, I felt like I was bothering her. Upon walking in I spelt the odor of a corpse. Sitting down my appetite dwindled. The waitress offered me iced water out and I had to invite myself to the buffet. When I arrived upon the buffet I saw a lot of unique dishes. The first dish that sparked my interest was a "chicken terriyaki" that resembled a rat on a stick. I have general tsao chicken the befit of the doubt but the after taste made me know it wasn't chicken. I immediately regurgated my food. The crab Rangoon were so delicious and the best thing there. I then went for another dish. There were "Vietnam country rolls." I think they were made of rotten chicken salad. In the background of this shit show dinner was soft Chinese music that resembled American pop. I can sum up my experience with a couple burps and some loose stools. So my girlfriend and I went here with my brother and bestfriend. The first thing I noticed was the split sections of the restaraunt the food was across from the seating which is unconvient and cause unessary accidents. Next the waitress was very blunt and not very friendly she didnt seem like she enjoyed her job and was just plain rude. Then during the meal when she refilled the drinks she hit my friend in the head with a pitcher!!! The waitress didnt even apologize for it and turned and just kept on with her refills. At the end she gave us our bill and refused my brother exit of the booth till he have her his card and wouldn't let him pay at the front desk. Then when she brought back his bill. She wouldn't take it and kept in sis it ng he tip her for her "excellent" service. This is the most rediculous and unbelievable thing I have ever seen in any food service I would rather eat mc donalds. Will never go back. read more
