Sweet and sour chicken
Christine H.

Came here for the first time about two years ago and I was not impressed. Came here again for the second time and still wasn't impressed. The front entrance has no curb appeal at all. Looks really outdated and uninviting. Upon entering, we weren't welcomed warmly, but to only be asked, "for how many?" After sitting down, was asked several times after just minutes if we were ready to order. Appreciate the enthusiasm of taking our order and all, but we weren't asked with enthusiasm, we were asked more like, "are you ready to order, or not" tone. The server was lacking people skills. We ordered: honey walnut prawns, chicken and shrimp lo mein, green beans, sweet and sour chicken, Szechuan scallops, and house fried rice. The honey walnut prawns were drowning in sauce and looked like a glob of mayonnaise sauce under it, around it, and over it. On top of that, it was decorated with broccoli encircling the dish - the weirdest thing I ever saw! No one in their right mind, who knows how to serve (and cook)honey walnut prawns correctly in a restaurant would ever do such a ridiculous thing. I almost gawked at the sight. The lo mein was probably the worst lo mein I ever tasted - soggy, and flavorless. The string beans were decent along with sweet and sour chicken. If I HAD to ever come back to this place it's either one of 2 things: 1. Someone was paying for it. 2. It would only be for sweet and sour chicken and the string beans. That would be it! I've had better Chinese food in Utah county than this place.

Orange chicken combination dinner

I've been looking for a good Chinese place in Utah county and saw this recommended in a Facebook group I'm in. I came here and read reviews and thought I'd give it a try. My guy got the orange chicken and I got the sesame chicken. The orange chicken was ok, it could use less soy sauce and more orange flavor. I think we both agreed the sesame chicken was better. We both also got the combination dinner so it came with ham fried rice, egg roll (or paper chicken), a large breaded shrimp (that was SO delicious), a little chip, and your choice of egg drop (we both got this and agreed it was very different than other Chinese restaurants but good!)or hot and sour. Our waitress was efficient and we were probably in and out of there in less than an hour. My only complaint is that it was probably 80 degrees in there! I look forward to going back to try other dishes!

General Tao's Chicken, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, house special Lo mein, Chicken Lettuce Wrap, Egg Roll

We had a very nice meal, everyone was stuffed. Very reasonably priced and fair to large portions. We had Cream cheese wontons (so fresh!), egg rolls had a beautiful crust, (not heavy chewy!) we also had the chicken lettuce wraps, (was not expecting such a large portion). Our mains included General Tsaos (MIL was raving over it), house special lo mein and salt and pepper shrimp (wow!). Service was prompt and courteous. We would come back (we are not locals).

I haven't been to this restaurant in quite a while. I believe it used to be China Light Cafe. I actually did door dash on this visit and was actually quite disappointed in a few things. I'll break it down for you. The biggest disappointment was how long it took to get my food. It took almost an hour and a half from order to my door. Three dashers came and went before the food was ready to be picked up. I attempted to call the restaurant to see what was going on and it went to voicemail. This was about 7 PM. They closed at 8. To me, an avid fan of Chinese food, I assume it shouldn't be too difficult to get out a dinner order of lemon chicken and cashew chicken. It was the lemon chicken, it had been over cooked until it was hard to chew. The flavor was your basic lemon chicken, so that was good. I do recommend the cashew chicken if you do go here. The egg rolls are great, but the prawns were pulled out of the freezer and fried up for you and unfortunately over cooked again. The person on the fryer must have been having an off night I guess. There was a large helping of ham fried rice with each meal. There wasn't anything special about the rice which is just fine. The soup was fantastic. I got egg flour soup and it came with two big crisps to crunch up. The soup was actually what kept this at three stars for me. All in all, pretty disappointed in this restaurant, but it was the only one open on a Sunday. I will probably not recommend this restaurant given there are a couple others that really hit the mark and are located in the same city. See my other reviews for those. Cheers, Mike your favorite food critic.

We've enjoyed coming here over the years. A fun tidbit about China Isle is that on the first day of Chinese New Year, they gave each of us a brand new $1 bill! So fun. I don't know if they do this every year but it was fun to be a part of this year. I feel like they need more staff on hand, especially since we were there in the evening on a holiday. There was only one waitress running around like a mad woman and one busboy. Watching them was exhausting and not at all relaxing for the customers. The food was good. We always get the dinner combo meals. They come with your choice of a main entree (limited), fried rice, egg roll, and soup. We always get general tsos chicken-- CLASSIC, and the egg drop soup. So yummy!

Our experience yesterday was a little different than we've had here in the past. It may be because we accidentally came on Chinese New Year, but they were understaffed and the service was extremely slow. The food was still very good, and is one of the better options in the area for full service Chinese food. Be warned, though, they did not honor their 10% off coupon for checking in on yelp. That was very disappointing.

Kung pao chicken, fried rice, spring roll and fried wonton

This is one of the best Chinese food places in Utah county that I have found. The food is consistently good, even though the service isn't. Hence the 3-star rating. But I keep going back. That says it all. Lunch special is definitely the best. Comes with soup, entree, fried rice, spring roll, and a fried wonton. Mostly for under $7 (there are a few with shrimp that are a little more). Although if you get it to go, they won't give you the soup. But the chicken is good, the flavors are good, the portions are huge. I also love the soup. Favorites have been Kung pao chicken, general tso's chicken, and cashew chicken.

I ordered the combo seafood boil and the calamari appetizer to start. The appetizer did come out after our meals so we didn't get to eat much of it since we wanted our meals. I don't know why it didn't come out shortly after ordering. The calamari appetizer does have fried jalapeños as well, which is a nice addition. The dipping sauces weren't anything special - I wish they had a jalapeño ranch like other seafood boil restaurants do. The seafood boil itself was delicious! I got 1lb of shrimp, with the head off, 1/2 pound of black mussels, and then they include sausage, corn, and potatoes. I got a mix of all the seasonings/sauces and a medium spice level. The flavor was so good and it's so fun dipping everything into the sauce before eating it. I also ordered a side of white rice to add my sauce to as well - always a must! The shrimp was juicy and tasted very fresh. The mussels also tasty fresh and did not have a sour or fishy taste. Everything was very yummy! I can't wait to come back! Prices are fantastic for portions!

Shrimp with head on, side of rice on the side, with the medium kickin' sauce (combo of all the sauces together) - had great flavor and the shrimp was great! Comes with 2 potatoes and 1 corn on the cob. Also ordered the fried calamari appetizer with jalapeños - flavor was good, but needs another sauce served with it to justify/elevate it to another level - maybe some cilantro ranch! Service was attentive and friendly. Will def come back here to bring the rest of the family! Love the fact that this was originally China Kitchen, and they are still China kitchen, so you can have your favorite Chinese dishes here as well! They just added the seafood boil option to half the menu.
