Trust the 1 star reviews - I really believe if anyone posted more than one must have selected the wrong restaurant to rate. China Garden is a take-out only, if you dare to sit inside you'll probably want a lot of hand sanitizer. As for the food, it is as if they buy all out of date meats and produce, or maybe the just don't clean anything. This place would be a gold mine for take out food with the right people, but the owners are stuck in their ways. Lastly, I've never said this about any restaurant, but the truth is this place shouldn't even be open and shocked the the Health Department does not close them down, but it is Pender County and unlikely they have the staff to visit or would even drive the distance to view this place; or maybe the Health Department just gives low ratings and it's up to the public to not support in order for a restaurant to close. read more

Yikes. I went in with my son. The place looked like it was under construction with sloppy looking plastic hanging everywhere. I couldn't clearly see the person behind the "dust protection". It said we could get to go and sit inside. I said "does someone have Covid?". I believed it was actually a valid question due to how confusing the situation in there is. It said I was being rude. I said excuse me? It was reiterated that I was being rude. I was shocked. I truly felt they were rude. We left instantly without saying another word. The place looks super sketchy. My family really likes China Garden! The food is consistent. It isn't fancy, but it does the job!

Okay, this place was awesome in a clutch! Went there with my buddy and his kids about 10 minutes before closing time on a Wednesday night. I know it's not ethnically correct to do but we figured we'd give it a shot and the staff was extremely friendly and got all of our orders taken care of and completed before they closed. My husband and I decided to go out of our little town and try a new Chinese restaurant. We ordered our food, and when we got home with it I took a bite out of my chicken and had a metal staple dig into my gums. My wife and I just moved to the area, we have a habit of comparing all chinese food to "east coast'" chinese food we grew up with in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I'll tell you this, we have found our Chinese Resturant in Hampstead, NC. We love this place, the Orange Chicken is wonderful, boneless spareribs to die for, everything was fantastic. We'll be sure to take pictures next time but we truly ate it too fast to take them before!!! read more

Well we finally decided to break the chains and stray from our standard "go to" sushi/Chinese place and give China Garden a try. There's not really many options for good Chinese food here in Hampstead so when I saw that there were 4 or 5 positive reviews of this place on Yelp I decided to swing in and place an order. I was really hoping that China Garden was going to be a decent little hole in the wall type of place but unfortunately this was not the case. After waiting approximately 25 minutes or so at the front counter/ lounge/dining/here's some extra space so throw in a few tables area, I expected our food to be fresh and well prepared as it seemed they took the time to cook it to order. So, we get home and layout our catch on the kitchen table and set upon it like ravenous lions. We had large orders of general tsos, chicken lo mein, spicy beef rice noodles, beef and broccoli, vegetable fried rice and two orders of crab Rangoon, this totaled $53. Oh and they did manage to throw in some kind of free fried sugar donut type kind of how's ya father, so there was that. I mean it was gross but at least I didn't pay for it, right? Anyway, the beef and broccoli was a little slimy, and everything else had an aftertaste that was do to whatever kind of oil they are using to fry/sauté with. Even the free sugar donut thingy's they gave us had this aftertaste. I'd have to say that overall it was a pretty miserable dining experience, if I had a gun to my head and HAD to choose the best offering I guess it would have to be the crab Rangoon. It tasted like some fresh from the box standard Sysco frozen foods satisfy the hoards operation. Judging by the few positive Yelp reviews and the drunk prison inmate looking fellow that I shared the 25 min wait with at the restaurant, I'd say they do at least have a loyal crowd. This is just my 2 cents. So at the end of the day, I'm sorry to say that we most likely won't be back for a round two. read more

We travel from Jacksonville to eat here because the food is cooked fresh and it's so good.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! I eat here at least three times a week! They have a big variety on their menu and the prices are great! The service is fast and very friendly. It is nice going to a place where they know who you are and what you want and make it just the way you like it. It makes the experience more personal. The food is no where near bland. I do not know what is wrong with that other guy but all of the food has nice flavor and tastes good. Especially the sesame chicken, honey chicken wings, and boneless spare ribs. Those are my personal favorites. Another thing I love about this place is that they can do some substitutions for you. Like I do not like eating foods with MSG in them so they make the food without MSG. Overall this place is AWESOME and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! read more

We ordered chicken wings, roast pork lo mein and beef and broccoli. Each dish was delicious. The chicken wings were crispy on the outside, moist inside. The roast pork lo mein was loaded with meat and was incredible. The broccoli in the beef and broccoli was crispy, fresh and delicious. So happy to have enjoyed a wonderful meal, close to home and reasonably priced. Already looking forward to our next meal!! read more

We are from NY and have eaten at many different Chinese food establishments. The food here is just as good, if not better, than the local places we would eat at back in NY. My kids love the steamed dumplings. If you're in the mood for some Chinese food, you can't go wrong with this place. read more

The food is good. My opinion on the service .... I was soooo mad when I left there that I seriously will NEVER go back. I ended up not even getting what I was supposed to get. PLUS the person at the front was TOTALLY rude with NO personality at all. If you don't have the kind of personality to work with the public then find a job in a cubicle or work from home!
