The prices are cheap and you can get big ass portions of stuff. An unassuming place among other such places is a good way to describe it. It's not authentic, but you wouldn't come here for that so it doesn't matter. The menu is about what to expect, with the classics that are found in almost any cheaply run Chinese restaurant. Has the lunch and dinner portions. There's not much difference except the price really. It's about $10 for an entree. We got the General Bean Curd, which is the best option for vegetarians. Came with a ton of crispy tofu in the spicy sauce along with some broccoli. They really kept it pretty simple, but we certainly got a lot. Certainly most people get stuff to go. It's closed Mondays. Visiting from California and ordered from China Cook to deliver to the Holiday Inn Express. Happy that delivery time was 30 minutes or less and there was no minimum to order. Prices are reasonable and the menu has lots of options. However, the food was bland. Ordered a small won ton soup which came with three large wontons and a mix of vegetables In a bland soup broth. Ordered veggie chow mein which was also bland. I did not ask for any Kind of hot sauce. The order arrived with soy sauce packets and sweet and sour packets which I did not open. Late night delivery is always a gamble. Especially when your unfamiliar with the area. Called a few places and finally found this gem. By far the best sweet and sour pork I've ever had. Huge portion on the large. Opted to sub out the white rice for shrimp fried rice. Yummy. Good amount of shrimp and decent size too A splash of soy sauce, and I was in fast food heaven. I live for a good Chinese hole-in-the-wall and China Cook is top of the line! And it's cheap! Walking in, CC isn't a whole lot to look at. The register is immediately in front of the kitchen and you do have to pick up a paper menu if you want to know what they serve. There are a couple of tables against one wall and some bar stools that face the window. I was definitely happy with the prices. And as an added bonus they have dinner and lunch specials that include an egg roll, rice, and entree for under $10. I went that route and ordered the Orange Chicken with lo mein. And then because I like being able to try multiple things when going somewhere new, I also ordered the Combo Platter (maybe "Sampler" not "Platter"... I can't remember) which comes with pairs of crab ragoons, egg rolls, fried shrimp, and chicken sticks which rings in under seven bucks! And My husband went with the Shrimp Lo Mein. Our orders took maybe 10 minutes for them to whip up and we could see right into the kitchen so I can say definitely that it was cooked when ordered. I loved everything I ate. The lo mein is perfect! Not too oily, so yummy! The Orange Chicken was insanely good!!! So flavorful and just enough spice! I used the extra sauce to dip my egg rolls in... seriously delicious! I would absolutely order all of this again. Oh and also worth noting, the crab rangoons were perfect too. It all was, so clearly you really can't go wrong here. I called in my order for pickup. They have a lunch special that is cheap and comes with a good amount of food. The staff was wearing masks and enforcing social distancing. My food was ready soon after I arrived at the restaurant. The food was good. It wasn't the Chinese food I'm used to but by no means was it nasty, just different. Also for it not to be ready when I arrived, it wasn't hot. It was warm which is a problem for me because I want my food steaming hot. Overall, I would return and try something different. Yelped a Chinese Take Out place en route to Chicago Hoffman Estates around dinner time and this place popped up. Really don't know what to expect. Reviews were so positive about large portions n good taste so decided to stop by and it's not far from the freeway. We opted to order once we got there bc reviews said they make your things on the spot in 10mins. Our plan was to eat it in the car anyways because we have an hour to go before we got to our destination. Once we got there we couldn't decide on what to get. Dinner specials were cheap and came with fried rice n egg roll. But dinner plates if u spend over $15 you get a free eggroll and if you spend more you get a free small fried rice. My eldest wanted steamed dumplings and in the picture they looked handmade but these came out store bought and no bueno. Please change your ad and pictures to reflect your actual food. The fried ones were same, not homemade. Was disappointed in that. My shrimp lomein special did not look like the picture either but it was super tasty. The fried rice was ok. Egg rolls ok. Store bought. Deep fried. But all our dishes were super tasty. In the take out reheatable containers they looked small n tons of onions in the Mongolian beef but once you eat it it was pretty tasty. Garlic chicken tasted a bit spicy. Szechuan beef ok. But my lomein is the hit. I like how they packed it all and gave us a ton of sauce n lots of fortune cookies. They were friendly n quick. Really our large order was done in 10mins. Seems like a family owned establishment. Glad we stopped by. Food was still piping hot an hour later as we enjoyed it at the hotel. I miss China Cook! I worked nearby for many years and would frequently order delivery and they were always so sweet and quick to deliver. I can't remember everything that I've tried over the years but I was always very impressed with my meals and can't think of a single complaint. After reading all the rave reviews on Facebook, we decided to give it a try. Egg rolls were so-so and though they gave us sweet sauce, no hot mustard was included. The Sweet-Sour Pork had no flavor and you could not even tell it was pork. Plus the sauce that came with it had no pineapple, green peppers or tomatoes. They need to reconsider who they have answering the phones to take the orders. The person who answered the phone sounded very bland , talked very slow and just didn't sound motivated to be at work that day. This has happened twice to me now, with a year gap In between both calls . Both times , I told them never mind and called a different place . It would be hard for me to eat the food. read more

I waited a while before posting this review because my luck with finding good & consistent Chinese food in the area has been beyond difficult. Upon moving, I was excited to try this place out. I was pleasantly surprised. There's a plethora of lunch specials (that can also be had at dinner time for a small increase in price), good appetizers, & some hard to find dishes (hello beef chow fun YES!) as well as the usual suspects. Orange chicken, fried rice, & the like. I can't speak for dine in or delivery as I've only had take out, but can we just talk about how fast, fresh, & friendly this place is??? Those 3 Fs are important! I've never waited more than 10 minutes after ordering inside & the food's always amazing when I get it home! The only oddity I found here is there are no bean sprouts in their fried rice, but they had no problem adding them when asked. Do yourself a favor & when you get that itch for a "treatyoself" night, stop in & enjoy some take out from China Cook. read more

Tried China Cook for the first time today. I had a lunch special General Tso's Chicken. The lunch special comes with chicken fried rice and a chicken egg roll. The portion itself with the rice is plenty large for one person; my wife and I shared it. There was a lot of meat, and of good quality. The egg roll was also quite good. I had an egg drop soup on the side. It was average, but was a generous portion. My wife had hot and sour soup, and it was very good. It had chicken and tofu in it. It could be a meal on its own. I ate here a couple of years ago but didn't review it. Decided to give it another try. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special with lo mein based on the Yelp reviews. The batter on the orange chicken was 100% soggy. It did not seem like it had been fried to order for me. I don't see how it could have gotten completely waterlogged just from sitting in the to go container. A big disappointment. Panda Express doesn't make their orange chicken to order -- they make it in advance in big batches. Yet Panda Express manages to keep it at least slightly crispy. Such a disappointment, I really wanted to like this place. Maybe a non batter fried entree is the key to ordering from here. read more

I paid $40 for 4 meals that were bland, ( they had the little pepper symbol indicating spicy) and mostly were rice with small amounts of veggies and even less entree. Granted they weren't loaded w/ MSG, that much is true. The guy at the counter was nice enough but I didnt get my order of crab rangoons w/ my order. So in essence I gave them $5 extra dollars for nothing! And Joliet thinks this is the place to go??! People its time to go back to Chinatown and reset ur chinese taste buds!! Overpriced, mediocre food is not where Im going again! Wish I could tell you Asian express but the owners I liked , have sold and the new owners have changed things unacceptably. Ordered the General Tso with white meat chicken and they used sliced chicken instead of breaded dark meat. OMG, what a great lower calorie change. I ordered online and for delivery to my senior citizen apartment. I ordered a very large order of over $80.00 worth of food. I usually go with Tony's Wok because they have treated me well and the food is good. But they were not open so I tried China Cook. I was asked for a pin number. Since I was always told to never give out pin numbers or tell them to anyone, I did not give one. I had given them more than enough information: telephone number, address, name, and I paid via Paypal and it was all successful. When it was delivered to my and I was called via my telephone number, I came down to collect my food and I usually sign the computer "phone" for any Chinese food that I have ordered by Tony's Wok. I assumed the same for China Cook. I was refused my food and I ended up yelling and swearing at the deliverer of my meal. And I demanded my money back. I didn't want to have a bad experience tonight- so I was sure too take my time deciding on which Chinese restaurant in the area would be best for me and my fiancé to have for dinner. There were mixed reviews for China Cook- however, the lower star reviews didn't seem to be too bad and the good reviews and entree suggestions gave me a good feeling about the probability of having a positive food experience. We decided to place an order and pick it up (even though they do offer delivery services) since it was only 10 minutes away from the house. as soon as I placed the order, to my surprise, he told me it would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes which I was very excited about. We ordered the Mongolian beef dinner special with lo mein substituted -instead of the included chicken fried rice- but also came with an eggroll. In addition we got the (very nicely priced) large steamed white rice, an order of steamed potstickers and a large wonton soup. (Thankfully, as a force of habit, I always check all of my food before leaving the restaurant to make sure not only that it is correct but that it's all there! **Good rule of thumb!** Lol) All of the food was very hot, packaged nicely, absolutely plentiful, and everything was sealed nicely with no messiness or drips. There only mistake thus far was that they forgot to give me my egg roll- which they fixed in a matter of seconds. This egg roll was delicious by the way! (: (We are just arriving home and I will update after tasting the rest of our order. ) As far as service the attendant on the phone was courteous a good listener, and very pleasant to speak with, even though he had an accent he understood me well and vice versa- he repeated everything back to me and gave me my total and suggested arrival time (in case you're wondering my total for this whole order was about $21.) I will show the portioning in my photographs and I'm sure you will all agree that the pricing was beyond fair, I honestly expected much smaller portions for the quote I was given! When we arrived to pick the order up I was in and out in less than 30 seconds, even with one patron ahead of me. once again the receptionist was extremely polite, greeted me with a genuine smile and reread my order to me to be free of error. & with a quick signature I was on my way. I wanted to get some coffee from DD and came upon this place that had Chinese food. Of course, lunchtime came rolling by and I thought treating myself to some General Tao's chicken would be very nice. First impression when I walked into this place, very clean and tidy! Smelled nice! (always a plus!) Two fancy flat screen TVs showing the menu. I ordered the General Tao's chicken lunch... First, the food was in a nice plastic resealable container. The portion size was VERY generous! I couldn't even finish it, which then also became my dinner for the day. There was more chicken than the breading which I really liked! (I never like biting into a breaded chicken and feel like I"m eating undercooked flour before I even get to the chicken). I got my money's worth and felt SUPER satisfied. I guess the lesson learned? Always walk into a new food place with slightly lower expectations than usual because I didn't expect anything from this small restaurant, but I got blown away...Much better than I thought! Just ordered delivery. I get so so scared ordering from new places... I have some stupid anxiety, and I hate it. The usual place we go to doesn't deliver on Sundays, and the Hawks game is on (call me lazy lol) and I had such a taste for Chinese. I will never go back to our regular Chinese place ever again!!! Ordered vegetable pan fried noodles for myself. Did not need to add anything to it! The noodles were actually pan fried! Usually when I order this from other places, the noodles are just soft. This had some crunch to some, just like it's supposed to!! I also got egg drop soup. Perfect consistency and seasoned beautifully! When we saw the signage go up for China Cook, my wife and I were excited to see another option for Chinese food opening in our neighborhood. We get take out maybe once a month or a little less so and our normal option has been going up in price and is rather far from our house, so another option was very welcome. China Cook offers your typical "American" Chinese menu, i.e. General Tso's chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken and Broccoli, Fried Rice, etc.. My wife and I ordered a Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef Fried Rice, and we tried a Teryaki Beef Stick appetizer. Everything we tried was delicious. The Sweet and Sour chicken was actually more meat than breading and the sweet and sour sauce was good. The Beef Fried Rice was very good. Mongolian beef seems to be a dish that's prepared differently at just about every restaurant we have tried it at, but China Cook's variant was good. Large peices of green onion were cooked to perfection (Not too soft, not too crunchy). There maybe could have been a little more beef in the dish, but it was good overall. They placed the entree over the thin, crunch rice noodles which were soggy by the time we got home, so I'll know to order those on the side for next time. We really liked a few things about this restaurant. One was the packaging - the entrees came in plastic, resealable containers instead of the typical "Chinese take out" box. The white rice and the meat for the Sweet and Sour chicken still came in these boxes, but it was a nice touch for the other entrees which made transportation and refrigerating left overs much easier and a heck of a lot less messy. The second thing we really liked was that the lady running the front counter was very friendly and polite and just made for a nice experience overall. We will order from here again, and as Chinese take out restaurants go, they have so far earned their four stars and I'd recommend giving it a go. read more

We decided on this place due to location and being open on a Sunday. We usually go to another place, but their delivery fee was getting absurd (over $5). We ordered typical Chinese food and then soup for my husband battling a cold. Everything was surprisingly tasty and we received in a reasonable amount of time, definitely under an hour. New to the Joliet area and this is hands down my go-to Chinese place. Looks unassuming in a strip center, but don't let that turn you away. I ordered take out with my girlfriend a few days ago and it was amazing. I had the General Tso chicken dinner special, she had mushroom egg foo yung and we both loved it. The portion is sized for 2 meals honestly, and as good as it was fresh, we both swore that it was somehow even better the next day as leftovers. Also, the service is super friendly and accommodating. The kitchen made my girlfriend's egg foo yung with just mushroom instead of all the vegetables as a special request with no hesitation. Fresh vegetables and light and flavorful sauces made this new addition to our neighborhood a must repeat location. Service was unobtrusive and the server seemed knowledgeable about the menu offerings. We chose one of the family style menu suggestions and started with excellent hot and sour soup and an assortment of appetizers. The bbq pork was tender and moist, the fried items light and crisp. The meal that followed did not disappoint. Everything was cooked fresh, vegetables retained an appealing snap. We sampled chicken, shrimp, beef and pork, all were tasty. Sauces didn't overpower the ingredients but added just the right amount of additional flavor to every dish. Yum! The hot and sour soup is awesome (I have a cold, and it was better than any chicken soup!). We ordered two dinner specials, along with the soup, and we had more than enough food for 2 adults, 1 toddler, and lunch the next day. Well priced, too! The food came with coupons, so we'll definitely call back.. Even the toddler was happy with his dinner! The delivery was fast!
