I dont like MSG, and from the taste I don't think they used any. Owner speaks good english which can be a huge problem when ordering over the phone, and I love having the feeling the place making my food actually cares about the health of everyone else. The delivery driver was really polite, what else can you ask for? I got orange chicken, chicken fried rice, and chow mein. YUM, I didn't think I could find someone to deliver on a sunday but they did! read more

My family and I ate dinner here last night. We ordered six different dishes, mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, chicken asparaguus with mushrooms, mixed vegetables, chicken fried rice, pork fried rice, and hot and sour soup.. To start, the service was horrible. We were not greated as we walked in the door. We stood there for a full five minutes, before we were finally acknowledged. After being seated and handed menus, we waited another twenty minutes before a waiter asked us if we would like to start with something to drink. We ordered water and tea, and were only given the water. Then waited another twenty minutes before taking our order. Then, about twenty minutes after taking our order, the owner of the restaurant came over to our table and abruptly stated, "I'm not sure about what you ordered. Can you please tell me what you want again, and I will order it now. At this point, I also asked for tea, again. Another twenty minutes later, the owner of the store started bringing the food out. She said, "oh, this table is too small for all of your dishes", and yet she did nothing to move us to another table. The last dish that she brought, she just handed it to us, and left. rather than set it on the table, as there was no room to place it on the table. So where are we suppose to place this dish, hold it in our hand while we eat? We ended up moving all of the condiments off of our table, and placing them on the dirty table next to us, to make room for this last dish. The food was the worse chinese food that any of us ever ate. The presentation was as plain as day. The hot and sour soup was cold, both rice dishes were soggy, the mongolian beef didn't look like any mongolian beef that I've ever seen before, as it was filled with just onions, and the beef tasted spoiled, and was rubbery. The sweet and sour pork was fried to a crisp and placed on top of cold sweet and sour sauce, onions and pineapple. The aasparagus, mushroom, and chicken dish was stateless, and the mixed vegetabes were also tasteless, with no sauce at all. After the long wait, horrible service, and inedible food that was delivered, we were ready for our bill. My husbad ended up going to the front desk area at the entrance of the restaurant to tell the owner that the food wasn't up to par, and her response was, "what, you don't want to pay for the food?" He said, I just want to tell you how disappointed we are with the service and the food, and we're ready for our bill, as we want to leave. She asked us if we wanted to take any of the food home, and we declined. She also stated, "well we have two new waiters." , and never mentioned anything about the food. Please don't waste yur time and or money here. There are much better Chinese restaurants around the Rohnert Park/Cotati area. read more

My wife had never gotten Chinese take-out and was very excited about the vegan options at this place, so we tried it. My food was ok, a little bland, but edible. My wife had an extra, free, bonus in her dish. She got a free worm!! It was a cute little green guy, perfect for extra protein in her meatless meal. Needless to say, she did not continue eating. I called the place back to tell them about it and was offered $10 back on that item (which had cost us more than that). Or, I could get the same food delivered again. I chose door number one and a poor Yelp review instead. read more

China Chef - Free with purchase!! - Chinese Near Me - Cotati, California

Best restaurant in town! Great service and the food quality is fresh and delicious. Must try the pot stickers ( made fresh every day) the mango salad, kale and mushrooms and the mushu. Serving sizes are generous and reasonably priced. read more

Worst Chinese food I've ever had. It's Chinese food not American Chinese food! I got chicken chow mein for dinner tonight and I think there was only three pieces of chicken in it. I would not recommend this place. read more

Bumping up my rating to 5 stars. The last several times we've ordered delivery they have been quick, consistent in quality and did not disappoint...and they still have the nicest delivery guy ever. Keep it up, China Chef! read more

This place is wonderful! The service is incredible, they are very accommodating and a pleasure to interact with. Highly recommend visiting China Chef. Plus, their vegan menu is full of so many delicious options. read more

Very disappointing. The sesame chicken was great but the sauces were bland they forgot some food(we had delivery) nothing amazing at all. As a lover of Chinese if you dont wow me the first time i will never go back. Delivery driver was rude and when i told him we were missing stuff he said he couldn't come back and i never received a refund and when i decided yo not tip very much( still did) he stood at my door giving me a dirty look..no thank you! read more

Do not order take out from this place, the portions are ridiculously small, I ordered Mushroom Egg Foo Young and there was one smallish pancake that didn't even cover the bottom of the container. An order of a large Wor Won Ton soup that the menu says will feed four barely came in one container and only yielded two, 1 cup bowls. When I have have ordered large soups elsewhere I get two containers, how expensive is soup to make after all? The Beef Chow Mein was greasy and we counted exactly three small pieces of beef in our order and hardly any vegetables. Same for Shrimp fried rice, just three Shrimp... We paid $40 dollars for a lot of carbs and very little protein, we felt ripped off and got a below average meal. At least at Panda Express they don't skimp on the protein. read more

Decent price but i strongly disliked the food. It tasted old, cold and flavorless. The meat is dry and tough and the soup was strangely sweet. Was really disappointed. read more

Worst Chinese I have ever eaten. Had been looking forward to eating here for some time because the signage states they have organic food. Finally had a chance to stop by and boy was I disappointed. I had the orange sesame chicken lunch. The chicken tasted old and dried out. The fried rice was only rice, egg and soy sauce with no flavor and the egg roll was still cold inside. I hate giving bad reviews but I have to on this place. read more

Beyond cheap Chinese food the veggies were almost inedible and the noodles had no flavor the crab wontons were ok but pretty greasy

The salt and pepper ribs are to die for tried everything on their menu delicious except for steamed pork buns they are straight from a package Safeway select are better The food here is good real good the main hostess however leaves a lot to be desired her attitude is that your somehow bothering her by coming in even when you order takeout Overall the best Chinese food in cotati and rohnert park read more

Completely acceptable dim sum. The selection isn't big, but they have the favorites. The crispy tofu wasn't as fabulous as others I've had, but still tasty. We ordered to go as a last minute thing born out of convenience. We liked it enough to call it our "just in case" place. Give it a go! read more

We had a delivery order last night, and a bit after recieving it, we realized an item was missing. Unfortunately, it was 20 minutes before they close, so we were nervous to call...but the woman we spoke to was so sweet and had our missing item delivered within the next 15 minutes! Great customer service. The food was also very good. read more

Unfortunately I have to agree completely with the negative reviews. The Kung Pao chicken and pork fried rice were very very bland. Kung Pao had no flavor or spice to it. I also got the "BBQ" spare ribs, they were anything but BBQ. They appeared to be boiled only, all grey in color with some kind of orange coagulant sauce. Truly awful, I through them away. I don't how they could get any kind of review above mediocre. read more

Maybe I'm just a Chinese Food snob after years of Kirin and China Room, but I was far from impressed with this joint. Clean inside, friendly and prompt service. And the pork buns were delish! The Hot and Soup Soup was neither hot nor sour nor had any real flavor to it. The hot garlic chicken was not too greasy, however it had virtually no taste and was not even the least bit spicy. The brown rice I got to accompany it was undercooked. Even the beer didn't get to the table ice cold. Next time I have the hankering for Chinese I'll head up to Santa Rosa read more

Worst Chinese (or whatever it is) food ever! Disgusting is putting it mildly - I rather not eat lunch today - thanks for nothing!

Great Chinese if you have food sensitivities. They can accommodate and prepare many dishes gluten free!!! It's been years since I've had Chinese food. What a treat read more

We love this place!! Friendly service and also appropriate for our toddler. Always get the veggie chow mein and hubby loves the Szechuan chicken. I love the spicy eggplant dishes. We are picky about Chinese but love this place! read more

Great food, great staff! I'm a vegetarian and I moved to the area this past summer. My boyfriend and I have quickly made this a favorite. There are lots of options for vegetarians, and the staff remembered us after just two or three times going in, even recognizing the first time I ordered a dish with meat in it (for my boyfriend) to ask what was up. The woman working the front desk is kind and funny, always fun to work with. The coconut curry vegetables are amazing. Love this place! read more

Ordered egg drop soup and got hot water with egg -literally nothing but a scrambled egg in water. Totally tasteless, pretty gross. Also ordered the house chow mien which didn't have any sauce, just the meats with plain, kind of dry noodles. Again, almost tasteless, but at least edible. The szechuan beef was pretty good, but just couldn't save the rest of the meal. I guess I'll reheat this the next time I'm wasted. Not the egg drop tea though, maybe the dog will like it. read more

The food was absolutely fabulous! This is the BEST Chinese food I have ever had. The food was flavorful and perfectly cooked. We organized a vegan event here and they were wonderful. Thank you!! read more

I was just here for the first time recently & everything was just fine. It's a good place to walk to after going to happy hour at flagship. I was famished so I ordered the #4 combo, with lumpia, egg flower soup, chicken, beef, rice & all was good. I don't think their menu on the internet is the same as in person, like most places. Maybe the Chef's Specials are only available for lunch. There were many more items on the menu I would like to try, so I'll be back. We returned & it was even better this time, since I had the half Peking Duck! Yum! Next time will be the Kung Pao Combo. Ready or not, here we come! This is our favorite new Chinese restaurant. read more

I eat here regularly. Best Chinese food in the area hands down. Also, has great vegan options. Friendly staff, always quick when it come to preparing the food. All around great place. read more

great food, smiling service. driven by this place for years and never tried until today - total mistake. Will def be going back - you should too. read more

I originally ordered from them on Christmas and they were very, very busy so we had some delays in getting our food (a large order for 15 people). The food was so good that I went back recently and Lisa, the owner, was really kind, warm, welcoming, and apologetic for the delays on Christmas. The eggplant dishes are my favorite. I also really appreciate that they have gluten-free and organic options on the menu. read more

This place has ok good but the service is horrible I waited 2 hours for food then when I called to cancel she argued with me and kept offering me a discount, I had to finally tell her NO I DONT WANT IT, then she hung up on me and kept putting me on hold and transferring me to other people very frustrating will never order again read more

We ordered one of their specials, organic greens salad with mango dressing. The salad was electric orange and tasted like they poured an Odawalla mango smoothie all over it. We sent it back. Over the speakers they were playing KZST. The DJ was reading the most depressing listener letters. It did not make for a good atmosphere. As we finished up eating the mediocre food, we noticed a strange tingling and pressure in our faces followed by neck pain. One by one we all felt it. It was the effects of MSG! We asked if they put MSG in their food and they said "no" but we are certain they were lying! We will never eat here again!! read more

My husband and I went in to the restaurant the other night we love this Chinese food the food is amazing however the service is lacking. The lady who runs the place is rude she threw our to go containers on our table and ignored us most of the time we were there. Very disappointing, I'll order take out next time read more

This is the worst Chinese food I've ever had and the worst service, not once but both times I've been. The food was dry and tasteless, and the service was rude, slow, and totally incompetent. We almost walked out the first time it took so long even to get tea and water even though there were only two guests in the restaurant. The second time the teenage waitress stood playing with her cellphone the entire time and I had to get up out of my seat TWICE after waiting for a beverage. The food was moldy, soggy, and lifeless. The experience was so bad the first time I swore I would never go back but I heard they revamped the place. The second time was laughable - just awful - dirty plates, horrible food, terrible service, that for the first and only time in my life I didn't tip. I wouldn't let my worst enemy eat here. read more

With such a nice variety of Chinese restaurants in the Rohnert Park/ Cotati area it can be a little difficult to find one that works for you. Some places have large quantities but not so great flavors, some places look beautiful but house a staff who don't know how to be polite or attentive. After years of looking, my wife and I finally found our place: China Chef. Whenever we want to get a great Chinese meal close by, we always go to China Chef. This place has a great menu with such a welcome variety of options (including dim sum in the evening which I am always happy to find) and they don't skimp out on the flavor. Aside from their food being delicious, the prices are reasonable and so are their portions. I also put a lot of emphasis on the wait staff, and every time I have gone to China Chef they have always been polite, friendly, and attentive. On top of that, they also offer free delivery! If I had a long day and want an easy night it is nice to know that I can call them up when I'm feeling extra lazy and they will literally come to my house with food for no additional charge! USA! USA! When it comes down to it, the place is clean, pretty, well staffed, and offer reasonably priced super tasty dishes. Everyone's pallet is different, and I know that there is better Chinese food out there in the world, but for where we live and what we like, I cannot speak highly enough of China Chef. read more

Love the food! It's great and affordable... only thing I don't like is that they do not clean out their shrimp. If course it's not bad to eat the digestive tract but it's just a preference of mine that the shrimp is completely cleaned out before I eat it. Other than that, food is great read more

I ate here yesterday, really horrible. I was here about a year ago and wow has this place gone downhill. I ordered lemon chicken, it was nuggets of tough chicken I believe was frozen, also they threw in some frozen vegetables. The fried rice was scooped up with what appears to be an ice cream scoop, and it looked the same as my dining partners rice which was brown rice. Eggroll was very greasy. Soup it was wonton the broth was water that is all water. read more

Christmas day nightmare. 2 hours for food to come out it was ice cold. The schewan beef was so awful. The hot sauce tasted like rotten meat. Not to mention now of the employees that came up to me and tried to make us leave our table as my daughter was still eating. Her breath smelled soooooo bad. Never again. read more

Ok,, its really a 3 star place, but I give it 4 because the food was really good and fresh. 7 of us ate several dishes for 70 bucks plus tip. 5 dim sum plates 3 appetizers, chow fun, garlic spicy chicken YUMMY YUMMY, Kung pow Chick,, egg foo young and two big bowls of rice. It was all fresh, with nice variety of vegies and just the right amount of spicyness.. which we love.. I highly recomend the place. Solid chinese food and very nice service. I think the place needs a face lift, but in times like these thats hard to come by. The bathrooms could use upgrading.. Place was clean, but worn looking. Oh yeah,, I hate, hate plastic water glasses.. gross to me. I want to drink/eat off of glass. They can really make a go of it though I think,,, I look forward to going again. They also offer really good deals on meal specials. Check it out.. I think you will like it. read more

Gluten Free Chinese Food!!!! Cooked in coconut oil. Need I say more!? She will make any dish gluten free! I seriously LOVE the owner for creating a place where I can finally fulfill my desire for Chinese food crispy egg rolls, chowmein, lemon chicken.....all gluten free. I am so hoping this place stays forever because it is a gem. Also the owner, is so kind I was blown away. She literally offered to bring delivery to me after she gets off work any night I want because I'm pregnant and we live in Santa Rosa and they don't deliver that far. Will definitely be going back, like tomorrow. read more

So, my wife and I decided to order in tonight, and both wanted Chinese, we decided China Chef. Probably should have decided differently, delivery was spot on..... earlier than the anticipated arrival, went south from there. Walnut shrimp was buried under its sauce, tasted old and limp, walnuts were almost non-existent, fried rice was clumped into the to go box like the restaurant was getting rid of the day old rice, the other item (orange chicken)?, we weren't really sure. We sure miss the old China Chef when the whole order would of been spot on. read more

I was a regular here when I lived in sonoma county. Food is made fresh and not greasy as some chinese could be. Lunch time it's all about the Combo C. Mongolian beef, hot garlic chicken and fried rice. Prices are good and service is great. I miss this place. read more
