We visited on Apr 14, 2024. At first I was hesitant after reading the reviews, but we really wanted a Chinese Buffet so we gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the food. The buffet content was stereotypical American Chinese Buffet food, but it was well seasoned and prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will return again when we are in the area. read more

I truly do not enjoy giving bad reviews to small businesses, but I was pretty disappointed with this buffet. Maybe this is just based on my preference, but I found that the teriyaki chicken and the seafood was pretty rubbery. The flavor and quality of most of the protein options was lacking. I will say, the wonton soup was decent and the rice, lo mein, and fried dumplings were pretty great. This is the second time I've had to endure the awful "food" in this restaurant. The first time was a full decade ago when there was no yelp*. Not only is the food horrible the owners go out of their way to not put anything fresh on the buffet when it gets low. Also I witnessed one of the workers pulling loose lo mein noodle from the water of the green bean pan back into the lo mein pan. The "ice cream" from the machine was crystallized like it had been melted and refrozen, it was inedible. I will never come back. Twice in a decade was more than anyone should ever endure. What I find amazing is they have continued to be in business for this long. I guess that's lucky for them to be the only Chinese buffet in town. read more

Ah I have no idea how I forgot to review this place. I have been coming to this buffet since I was a teenager. Every year I come back to Indiana to visit my family I always come here. It does sadden me that I have been forgotten as a regular, but it's nice to see that a lot of the same people still work here. This was literally the first buffet I ever went to and the place I learned how to use chopsticks. (Came in handy later in life). My wife tells me it's nostalgia, but I absolutely love the food here. The beef is always on point, the chicken is always full of flavor, and the pork fried rice is seasoned perfectly. The staff has always been so kind to me here and they have always kept the prices very fair. You can get a meal for 2 and drinks for about 20 bucks. I look forward to coming here again next year!! read more

Probably the worst of the genre of Americanized Chinese buffet restaurants I have ever eaten at. Bland, missing traditional Chinese flavors. Veggies have the wrong bite, either raw or over cooked. Chicken on a stick, couldn't finish. Won Ton soup was watery and flavorless. Seasoning across the board was lacking. This is your typical China buffet. The coconut chicken is fantastic, as well as the general Tso's chicken. Everything else is good. I would not go out of my way to come here, but if you are in the town of Greencastle and want all you can eat for a good price, stop on in. It is pretty clean with a normal ambiance. read more

My husband and I come here quite often. They have decent options here and it's relatively easy to eat low carb by filling up on meats and fresh green beans and broccoli which is why we come so often. The chicken and mushroom and peppered chicken is pretty good as well as the wonton soup (not so low carb..). It's nothing fancy but you fill up at a decent price with a pretty decent selection to choose from. They lose 2 stars because it's not always the freshest and the atmosphere is meh.. I also unfortunately do not favor any of the desserts but they do have soft serve that you can never go wrong with. I recommend this place if you want to fill up in a hurry, but I don't recommend if you're looking for quality and fancy. read more

I'm adding a little to this today because I also ate there yesterday when I did my last holiday prep shopping. Was a choice between all I could eat of fairly decent frozen food reheated at the Chinese Buffet, and a pizza made with blood clots at the restaurant across the road. I'm learning to like this little Chinese Buffet and the food has been pretty acceptable twice in a row. The best things yesterday were the tempura zucchini and carrot slices and the broccoli in the broccoli with overcooked beef. OK, this time I could not handle the stuffed mushrooms, which looked like they had a lot of mushrooms they otherwise would have been throwing away, and they stuffed them. Most of the food available was ok, but I got a chance to try their very scary submerged plank of fish this time and I have to tell about it. The sunken fish is a huge fish fillet in a pan of slightly greasy water. Looks horrible and mostly it's never been touched, and I did see this same thing in a buffet in Mississippi this year and no one had eaten any of that one either. I don't mean there was a little water in the pan, I mean this was submerged totally. Yesterday they had made something that looked more like food than like something you would find at the beach. The pan had only a half inch of water in it, the fish was mostly above water, and it had a rub of seasonings on it. Hooray. I was the second person to try a piece, and it was creepy to actually cut fish with a spatula. I know, technically it's possible to do that, but yikes. You don't want fish you could spread like peanut butter. At the table, I cut a piece off with a fork and looked at the underside, and it was covered with gray greasy skin. Well, ok, I'm a fisherman and I eat fish skin. I ate the piece and was surprised to detect that it was salmon. But! it was like the most ordinary canned salmon that you get, except it was boiled and had less flavor. I'm shaking my hands in the air as I write this, because this is a terrible thing to do to a nice piece of salmon, even if you start with frozen salmon fillet. I will guess that the cooks in Chinese buffet restaurants all across the country have no idea how to poach salmon, have only heard about it and think it should be profitable. You actually poach salmon pieces (not a whole entire plank) in a simmering mix of wine and chicken broth, for ten to fifteen minutes, and then take it out and rub it down with spices. You take it out. Out of the water. Out. You don't leave it submerged in the tub of greasy water, even at half depth, forever. If you've done it correctly, you should be able to add the spice rub without the fish actually crumbling into paste. You add butter and garlic and salt, it's good. Poached salmon should taste nice. Should not taste like something you found at the beach. Poached salmon is not just boiled fish. They lost a star on this one. So what follows is the old review: I went back to the buffet after about a year! just because I was curious. I ate supper there on a Tuesday evening. I recognized no one, not the lady who picked up the dishes on the tables or the lady who took my money. She smiled, that's a nice touch. I ate some of just about everything that I considered interesting, and it was all ok. Hey! it's a 9$ buffet, they have to work with what is cheap. This time I did not find all the weird nauseating things I found before. I took three plates of food and I ate three plates of food. Not sure if they made the egg rolls there or if they were frozen, but eh, they were not the same as before and were ok. Supper in a microwave oven but you don't do it at home. Maybe they fired their old cooks? Maybe it's a new bunch of Asians running the place? I dunno. But it was ok and I will eat there again and hope it's just as good next time. A cheap meal. Went to a similar buffet in Mississippi this summer and it was fantastically better, but this is Indiana. I appreciate the improvements and hope it's not an accident. read more

Not a bad place to spend $9.00, their selection is small even thou their stablishement is large. They seem to replace items very quickly, you can find anything you find on other Chinese buffets from shrimp to your chicken on a stick which is the best thing there, only one choice of rice, small dessert area, overall, not a place you want to eat every week looking for a variety. You served your own drinks which is unusual for me, only one waitress when we went which also clean tables and took care of everything else except cook it seems lol. Overall not bad, would had given more stars if it had a bigger selection of food, end up eating almost same in all three courses we ate. Ohhh and their vanilla ice cream I saw everybody going for it lacks flavor and texture, stay away. read more

This is hands down the best China Buffet I've been to. If I went out to eat while I was at DePauw, it was likely that I ended up at this place. They also offer (or offered?) a student discount. It's been around a year and a half since I've eaten here, but I've been here dozens of times. I recall reading an article in The DePauw about Greencastle restaurants' health violations. This place had a few, but no way was that going to deter me from dining here. The iced tea is disappointing. It is clearly labeled as such, but since it is located between two hot beverage dispensers, it was hot tea instead. It takes quite a bit of ice to cool it down. Also, I was always perturbed by the bad artwork of disproportionate cats. My favorites: pepper chicken (back when I still ate meat), pepper shrimp, seafood mayonnaise, noodles, fried rice... The salmon is very good - one of my dad's favorites. I will probably be back here if I ever visit Greencastle again. read more

This place used to be a favorite place to eat, but no more. Food wasn't hot or fresh at 5:30 PM Friday evening, new owners aren't helping the problem either. The board of health should visit them unannounced at least weekly. read more

I am pretty stingy with stars. this is clean, reasonably priced and offers tasty dishes on a buffet. Friends complain because the menu seldom varies but I find that the norm when eating out. this is my choice for quick, yummy and clean. read more
