China 1 is where I decided to eat in Whitsett. There were a few dining options in the shopping center but this seemed to be where everyone was going so I decided Chinese was my best option. I looked at the menu in the window and decided what I wanted. Then when I went to order I was asked what size. I asked about the difference and was shown the container sizes on the wall. It was suggested I do a small combo and get half shrimp and broccoli and half rice as it came with an egg roll. I had almost ordered the large but I couldn't finish what I ordered. I do wish I ordered another egg roll. I enjoyed my food very much. The prices are very reasonable. Service is really friendly here and orders are prepared quickly. I did have to ask for a fork but they likely didn't know I was traveling and not a local. My order was prepared to go but they do have tables to eat inside. I'd eat here again. read more

I went there last week and didnt know what to expect. The staff seemed friendly the food seemed a bit pricey to food quanity ratio according to local other chinese places but the food was delicous. When i went in on a saturday i was shocked it wasnt busy in there. It made me a little nervous wonderding why it seemed dead on a sat night making me think the food wasnt good but boy was i wrong. This place the food tasted spot on! I had ordered crab ragoons, general tso chicken combo but take out the fried rice and add shrimp lo mein. I had ordered about $30 of food for 1 person and tore it up that night. I dont know if they forgot my fortune cookie or if they even provide one but i didnt get one. The chicken didnt taste dry like other places which is a relief. The food was so delicous i forgot to take pictures of the food. I cant wait to try more items from this restraunt in the future! I would give 5 stars but not sure if they forgot my fortune cookie and also wished food quanity portion was a bit bigger for the price. read more

I called to complain but was told no refunds, and the owner just kept talking in circles! $30 for crap!! Called in my order at 630pm for 30-wings all flats. They said the order would be ready at 7pm. Arrived at 7pm and they said it would be ready in 20-mts. Ugghhh Went home and returned at 730pm for my order. They were removing the last wing from the grease. As I stood there waiting for them to pack my order another employee was answering the phone advising that any customers order would be an hour. The wings were decent but they L-shaped. In a number of ways this is another typical Americanized Chinese restaurant - it is small, has little or no ambiance, is located in a strip shopping center, and serves rather large portions at very reasonable prices. But there are some differences, as well - they offer a small, all-you-can-eat buffet at lunch (10 or 12 items) for $6.95, and they serve up better than average items from their regular menu, at least they do in my opinion. The Chicken Wings with Pork Fried Rice was a nice dish, the wings were nicely cooked, and full of flavor, and the fried rice was solid with a nice amount of pork, corn, & green peas. The Shrimp Egg Roll was very tasty, but a bit on the greasy side. The Mongolian Beef was very nice, and would be a perfect version for me if the touch of sweetness in the sauce were eliminated. It has a nice amount of thinly sliced, tender beef, and is loaded with coarsely chopped green onion, both the white and green parts. The Black Pepper Chicken was quite different from other versions I've tried (I really like this dish when done right, at least right for my tastes) in that it had sliced green pepper and zucchini, as well as the usual sliced white onion.Like the Mongolian Beef, there was a definite sweetness to the dish, and very little heat - still not a bad dish, at all. Called in the order, was ready when I walked in the door. I'll try some more items here, and will almost surely give the small buffet a shot. If I could I'd give them another 1/2 star. read more

I went and had to wait for a long and didn't get my food for a hour but the food was excellent I would recommend you to go

I was definitely surprised to find out that they were open on Christmas and even though they were busy I still got my food within 10 min. The crab rangoon i ordered were really crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. The only problem i had with them was the taste of the filling because it was more of a sour and yet sweet taste. The chicken wings were tender and juicy on the inside and extra crispy on the outside. The chicken had a great flavor and seasoned perfectly. The lo mein noodles were cooked perfectly and and had lots of flavor as well my daughter didnt even need duck sauce or soy sauce on them. I will definitely go back to order more food and try other dishes. read more

This is another of those instances where Yelp needs a 1/2 star since I want to give this place 3.5 stars. I'm long overdue in reviewing China 1 because I have been eating here for 7 years or so. Location: China 1 is located in the Stoney Creek Shopping Center right off the Rock Creek Dairy exit along I-40 - very easy to get to. Food: This is typical mom and pop, combined Szechuan, Hunan and Cantonese style Chinese restaurant. The menu is the order at the counter by number layout with somewhere between 150 - 200 options. A lot of these choices are versions alternating only the choice of protein. Despite all the options, I almost always order either the Singapore Mei Fun (#41, $7.95) or the lunch buffet ($5.95). I order the Mei Fun extra spicy and the cook loves that! I guess I don't explore this menu much because I really like these two selections! The buffet is a 12-15 item layout and unlike many places, the items pretty much remain the same. In this case, I'm completely fine with that because I'm a big fan of almost all the items and am glad to see them there. There is also dedicated lunch specials ($5.55) and hibachi selections too. Menu food is prepared fresh per order and the portion is on the large size. The buffet is kept well stocked by restocking with multiple small servings rather than large, infrequent ones that grow cold and stale. This is a huge reason why I prefer this buffet over many similar ones. 4 stars for above average food. Service: is efficient and effective. You won't find yourself drawn into any rambling conversations with the family owners but you'll get a hello and smile. 3 stars for service. Value: This is another reason I often wander in here. Most of the dishes are offered in both small and large options. The smalls run in the $4 - $6 range while the larges go for $6 - $10. The hibachi style is 9 or 10 dollars depending on the meat and the Chef, Cantonese, Szechuan & Hunan Specials are mostly the same with the top end hitting $13. Due to the price points and the size of the portions, I give this 4 stars, especially compared to some of their competitors. Atmosphere: This place won't be making the cover of any restaurant industry magazine anytime soon. It is low, low-key, however, the Sanitation Rating is 98. You'll see a steady stream of eat-in and to-go customers and most customers, me included, don't loiter long after eating here. 2 stars for atmosphere. Overall, I've tried several of the Chinese "fast-fry" places in the area and this is by the far the best in terms of food flavor. It also is very competitive price-wise. Im a local here in town, and you can't go wrong with this place when it comes to Chinese food, even with covid guidelines, the lunch buffet is cheap and worth it, just make sure to get their early (11a - 130p) to get the freshness and to avoid the manual labor crowd. I have eaten here at least four times before finally deciding I would not throw my money away anymore. I am a big fan of Chinese take out on busy nights, but the food seems to get worse and worse. The last time I went im not even sure that the "chicken" was even chicken. My husband Orders the general tso chicken with rice and I got the sweet and sour and a side of lo Mein. The chicken was so stringy, old and dried out that it didn't even remotely resemble or taste like chicken- it was completely inedible. Being that I already had low expectations due to other mediocre visits, this didn't really surprise me. The lo Mein was completely tasteless and greasy As could possibly be. Hardly any vegetable in it, despite being vegetable lo Mein. I ate a few bites before deciding Id be sick from the amount of grease if I continued. The rice was ok, but also greasy and bland. Overall the food is far from fresh, tastes old and reheated, and the atmosphere is also a mess. I could deal with reheated food of it was at least tasty. It's not. Unfortunately this is the only Chinese in the area and we will just have to hang up our desires for Chinese takeout. read more

For the price of the buffet, I was expecting fresh food and a good atmosphere. I was sadly disappointed, especially since there's not much of a lunch choice around the whitsett area. The buffet selection appeared like it had been sitting there for a while. The food looked oily. The buffet had a selection of about 10 items or so. It wasn't the worst I have ever had, but I also won't be going back. For the price, I could buy much better quality elsewhere. There is also the option of ordering plates. Maybe these are a bit better in quality, but since I haven't tried, can't say for sure. The inside of the restaurant is a bit small and for some reason very hot on the day I dined there. I called in my order for carry out, one large Chicken Lo Mein and one order of Crab Rangoon. I arrived around 5:15 pm to pick it up and had time to snap pictures as I waited. The server was less than friendly, it seemed as if she was inconvenienced by stopping what she was doing to ring up my order and take my money. She had no personality whatsoever, totally emotionless, no greeting or warm welcome. I was the only customer in there at the time of my arrival. I noticed the place looked a bit run down and dirty, but figured I'd give it a shot since they were close by and I had only a half hour to grab food. My order cost $12.92 including tax. When I opened my bag at home, the first thing I noticed was how disgustingly dirty the ENTIRE container appeared that my food was packed in! It could not have been due lack of time to prepare it properly, I was the only one there at that time. Reluctant to even taste the food, I went ahead and gave it a try. The Crab Rangoon tasted like the cream cheese was soured, soggy in the middle and not even Luke warm. My drive home was less than 5 minutes, so for food that was just removed from the deep fryer 5 minutes ago, I was bewildered as to why. The Chicken Lo Mein tasted like it had been reheated and there was NO WAY it could have been freshly prepared. It seem to be dried out but yet very heavy and greasy tasting at the same time. It too had a very soured taste to it. This was my FIRST and LAST visit to this restaurant. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever been served. It is obvious that there is no pride taken in the food served and seemed to me that there was no regard at all for customer satisfaction, or for any level of quality in the food being served. With business so slow at this time, I would think they could have time to clean up some, but there was no cleaning being done here. The walls looked nasty around the self service drink station and the door frames and walls leading to the bathrooms were very dirty and probably had not been touched by soap and water in a very long time to become as nasty as they looked. I don't want to even imagine how the bathroom looked inside! Eewww!!! It was about 88 degrees outside that day and it did not feel as though they had any A/C running in this restaurant. I cannot figure out China 1. Every now and again a friend and I go to their lunch buffet. It is usually pretty good, not great by any means, but with about 10-12 hot and flavorful selections on a small buffet. Chicken with broccoli, fried rice, sautéed green beans, lo mein, wonton, chicken drumettes, shrimp and vegetables, pepper chicken, etc. The bins are not jammed full; they keep making more and adding a few more cups of each regularly so it isn't sitting too long. The price is very reasonable and at lunch the hostess and cooks seem friendly and helpful. I will continue to go for the buffet now and then. But I have gotten take out twice in recent months, and this is a different story. The quality of the food is just lacking freshness, flavor and proper preparation. Most recently, we ordered mo shu pork, steamed dumplings, fried wonton, beef in garlic sauce. Where to start.... The mo shu pork flavor was actually pretty good by itself, but it was far to wet and mushy, and the 4 wraps that accompany the dish were obviously made and packed much earlier; they were completely stuck together, hard in the center and could not be separated, thus thrown out. There was an abundance of liquid in the dish as well, just saturated with oil and/or water up to the top of the container. The beef in garlic sauce was also mostly a "mush" when we opened the container. It was soggy, oily and did not taste fresh. And I have never gotten beef in garlic sauce with sliced cucumbers. There was gobs of them. Didn't get that, and they did not fit the dish at all. The steamed dumplings had a sort of acidic taste, and were mostly thick doughy dumpling and not much filling. On the bright side, the friend wonton were very good, except that most every other place provides a sweet sauce to dip them in, and China 1 does not (or forget). This reminded us of why we had not gotten take out there for so long. Overall, just bad. The service was fine, however. So I think China 1 is a nice place to grab a bite for lunch with their buffet, and it gets pretty busy. But we will not get takeout again. I don't know why it differs so much between lunch and dinner.
