Cheers to Yelp and this Chimney USA. I've been a user of Yelp for quite a few years now (shows in profile). For the first time I went to an 'all Yelp' solution to see how things panned out. I used the message service in Yelp and received 3 quotes from all the chimney sweepers with one click. I promptly received the quotes and of all the quotes - this one was the highest by a small margin. To be consistent to the solution, I went with Yelp b/c of the rating. I'm quite floored how awesome the experience was. The owner worked with me to get in as quick/best as possible and was able to get to me sooner than planned. When the technician arrived, he was very polite and even took the time to take his shoes off (we're a no shoe inside household). The fact that he recognized that was very unique as whenever we get other services, the contractors often don't respect our 'rules' and walk around (even upstairs) with their shoes on. The technician was very respectful of answering questions, keeping me informed of what's going on and made sure there was no dust or soot kicked from any of the cleaning process. I was able to even cook dinner with him doing his job in the fireplace which was only 20' away. That's how well he sealed the area off to ensure everything was clean. He was polite, professional and arrived on time. Before he left, he showed pictures of the crown, cap, corbel that were a bit weathered and some missing shingles. We were unsure how this would go because our last house was a gas fireplace and we never had to call a chimney company the entire time we lived there (18 years). Called Matt and the team at Chimney USA to do the seasonal chimney and dryer vent cleaning. Asked them to check out the chimney flashing and chimney condition. Did a great job as normal with the maintenance and then took photos of the chimney in detail. I needed new. Flashing and some repointing g along with work on the chimneys crown (didn't even know what that was). They scheduled the repairs and completed within 10 days. Sent before and after pics as well. When your chimney isn't letting the smoke out or when there is VISIBLE DAMAGE, we are HAPPY TO HELP." I am disappointed and unhappy that the best your EXPERT company could do, is blow me off that you couldn't help, & then went on to give a recommendation for a poorly-reviewed company on the other side of the HRBT, & not interested in doing business in Va Beach. That's the honest truth. The contractor who worked on my chimney did nothing more than tear down the top-half of the chase structure. I wasn't comfortable asking them to continue any work building up or repairing the structure (which had some water-damage to the chase) b/c I learned the contractor wasn't licensed! Chimney USA gets 5 Stars from me! I just bought my home and this is the first time ever having a real fireplace so I wanted to get everything cleaned and inspected. Matt, my technician, did that and more... he took the time to explain everything he was doing and why, explained everything he found on the inspection and then took it further to explain what was a safety hazard and what was not, what needed to be fixed by a specialist and what could be fixed by myself and gave me all pricing. He also gave me a "fireplace user for dummies" lesson from cleaning to lighting a fire, to correctly putting it out and disposing of ash. I also had noticed a few days later that I had what appeared to be mud inside my disposal door, so I called them and the other Matt who answered explained that it was old ash that was getting wet due to a rusted and broken door that was low to the ground and getting flooded. He also gave options on how to fix the issue. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my Chimney USA experience and highly recommend them! read more

We were very impressed with the professionalism of Chimney USA! We get our 40 year old fireplace inserts inspected once every two years. The company we had been using no longer serviced our area, therefore we were on the hunt for a new inspection company. We chose Chimney USA from an online search. We made an appointment for cleaning and inspection. The crew on time and did an exceptional job of cleaning. The inspection uncovered a problem of rust through the flue, therefore we agreed that a fireplace replacement was in order. Matt jumped into action and within three weeks he and his crew had a new fireplace, chimney chase cover and 2 new termination caps installed! The quality of the equipment, materials and workmanship were exceptional. The company does not do finish carpentry or tile work so the owner must make allowances to either do it themselves or hire someone else. Hopefully our other fireplace insert will not need to be replaced, but if it does I will be calling Chimney USA. read more

we love our fireplace. its one of the biggest reasons we bought our house and it was our first really big $$$ home improvement job (since it was built in 1953, neglected for years, and converted to gas). we shopped around (and heard a lot of bull) but eventually found a reputable company and they did a great job. since then we've had an inspection and cleaning at least once a year and never had an issue. sadly (for us) they retired to the good life a few months ago. so, we started shopping around for a new chimney sweep, inspection and repair company. chimney USA had great ratings here and elsewhere so we gave em a call. i've never been so glad we'd had hucksters & con artists try to pull a fast one on us before, because boy oh boy these guys tried every trick in the book. without doing even the most cursory cleaning first, without inspecting on the roof, without using any sort of 'professional' chimney inspection camera equipment the technician showed us a picture on his cellphone that "showed a very dangerous crack in our liner that had to be fixed immediately." now, though we were with him the whole time, neither my wife or i saw him take any pictures and, in point of fact, because of our funky smoke shelf/smoke chamber he couldn't have taken a cellphone picture of our flue -- unless he had an invisible, collapsible pizza oven paddle in his jacket. when i asked to see the picture more closely, he shoved it in his pocket while pulling what looked like a carrot-curl of asphalt from the other pocket declaring "you probably didn't even know you'd had a chimney fire!" at this point i'd had enough, told him so, opened the front door and asked him to leave. his voice went up as he got louder, "i'm not trying to rip you off!" today we had an inspection and cleaning by a company with an A+ rating on BBB, angie's list, (yelp too!), and all their technicians are CSIA certified. first they cleaned (since that is the ONLY way to really see problems). they asked if i'd like to watch the screen while they used the professional grade, lighted camera (i did). there were no big dangerous cracks and absolutely no evidence of a chimney fire. i would strongly recommend that anyone thinking of dealing with chimney usa be warned, be informed and GET A SECOND OPINION before you let these guys begin any work. read more
