The…read moretechnician's "inspection" consisted strictly of shining a smartphone flashlight into the firebox and looking up at the top of the chimney from the yard. He never climbed a ladder, accessed the roof, used a flue camera, or cleaned the chimney. Despite never actually inspecting the top of the chimney, he immediately claimed we had structural damage and quoted, with misspellings, $1,299 for a "Spark arstor riper" (Spark Arrestor Repair) and "Chase cover riper." (Chase Cover Repair) He claimed the soot discoloration visible from the ground meant it was failing, and then offered us the typical sales fake "neighbor referral discount" for $700, explicitly telling us NOT to mention the deal to his manager, if we agreed on the spot. It would also include the inspection/cleaning which was what the original call was about using one of their deals. He mentioned usually a full replacement would be $10K. We said no and only paid an inspection fee. After he left, I flew a drone up to check the chimney myself. The spark arrestor mesh is completely intact and fine, and the chase cover only has minor surface rust with zero structural damage. Quoting $1,299 in top-structure repairs on parts he never inspected, using only a phone light inside, and stacking arbitrary discounts to pressure us into signing on the spot is predatory. So far so good! I…read moreshopped around and had 5 companies come to my home and give me estimates. I needed two new HVAC units and I knew it wasn't going to be cheap. You'd think that having to blow (no pun intended) that much money these companies would be falling all over each other to get my business? Am I right or am I crazy? Anyhoo out of the 5, only two actually called me with estimates and explained the process...only two. Oh Hampton Roads c'mon you're better that that! Now remember, they all went to my home to see what needed to be done, but only 2 called me back with information. Anyway company #2 gave me a written estimate, and when I called with follow up questions they were less than helpful. Enter company #1 White Goods Services. Rusty (yep) called me and emailed me a lot of information, and even sweetened the pot a bit for me since I was on a tight time schedule. He was patient (I am stationed overseas and was flying home to oversee the install) with all my internet phone calls with more than likely dumb questions. But he wanted my business and explained it all in great detail to me. Even though at points during his phone calls my eyes did glaze over a bit, I mean explaining HVAC systems isn't exactly riveting like watching an Avengers movie...but I digress. Once at the home he came out with his crew (who by the way were the utmost professionals, going out of their way to make sure everything was perfect) and began the install. It took two days as this was a rather big job. Once it was done the house was cool, (pun intended) and all the new equipment was given a thorough inspection along with follow up visits to come. They taught us how to use the state of the art panels and climate controls, and bonus hey I can set the ac to freezing though an app on my cell phone just to mess with my tenants heads now..lol! They might think the house is haunted...But I wont. Out of all the companies Rusty and his team were not the least expensive, but they offered more bang for the buck in terms of service agreements and warranties. I have to say after dealing with this company I will always recommend them to anyone looking for honest HVAC repair or install. It was a quick turnaround and every bit of it went according to a plan Rusty laid out for me. No surprises, no added costs, I got exactly what I paid for. Really hope this reviews puts others on the right path to finding an honest HVAC company. I also hoping Rusty names his next horse after me, either way I am glad I called White Goods Services.

Comparable to the other company I went with, the other company did what they could to help me at the time and offered me an option that would be less stress in the long run (the options Best Care offered were still doable ones, but they would be more of a headache). I appreciated the effort the other company put into the initial consult, and I tried to ask Best Care about other things we could do but they were pretty firm. Also, the consult fee for Best Care was almost twice as much. I don't think you shouldn't go with this company, but I just believe they weren't for me.
