My family and I were starved. We wanted delicious food and a great energy. We decided on Chimney Rock!. We have been here before many moons ago. As soon as we were seated we were greeted by our server. The place was rocking! Orders were flying by for all tables around us. We ordered cast iron meatballs with ricotta and bread, french onion soup, pot pie, mozzarella sticks, with a large meatball pie. I returned here for a party. The service was decent. I am not sure if the server had other tables or just our large party. It was a little slow at times and there were multiple requests for items. I was able to have a few of their food items. The chimney salad, rigatoni with vodka sauce, and multiple pizzas were the dishes tried. The salad consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, pepperoncini, onions, and olives. The salad was solid. It appeared fresh and the house vinaigrette was appetizing. The rigatoni with vodka sauce was pleasant too. There was an ample amount of sauce with just a good amount of flavor. The pasta was cooked nicely too. I had three different types of pizza, regular cheese, white, and pepperoni. The crust was just way too thin for my liking, and the pizza did not hold together due to this. Have been going to Boundbrook location for over 50 years and previously had no bad experiences. So I condition in saying I know any restaurant can have a bad night but what I experienced and heard during last visit makes we question how often I will go in future. Party of 4. Place was not that busy. Took 40 minutes for meals to come out. When they did some entrees were cold and pizza was wrong order. Server told us they held back bringing out 3 entrees because (wrong) pizza wasn't ready. When right pizza came out it was undercooked and had to be sent back to cook longer. Server was great and apologetic and comped our drinks and desert which was much appreciated but still a bad experience. Was told they have been having recent problems because overexpanded with another location, moved kitchen staff around and new hires were inexperienced. This review is for the Flemington location. Great casual faire for an easy dinner out. Food is pretty consistent and good. My mistake in ordering their burrito. They are not a Mexican restaurant and should stick to American cuisine. It was dry, lacked flavor and any interesting seasoning. Took 1/2 home, dug out the insides & added seasonings with a fried egg for breakfast the next day. My husband's pizza was very tasty and my son ate all his burger so it must have been good (he has fancy tastebuds :) They were busy the night we went so service was a bit slow but it wasn't bad. read more

Great place to celebrate Oktoberfest. Either four different kinds of Oktoberfest beers and 1/2 to full liters this bar is in the spirit. Friendly bar tenders and a specialty German menu for the month to celebrate that German heritage festival of Oktoberfest make this place fun and lively . Ford does not have much seating so be sure to come early to get a seat. But there are booths and tables throughout the restaurant that you can get the same menus at. Chimney Rock is an institution of the Bound Brook. In fact, I am not from the area - but rather, my extended family lives here and comes to this place often. Whenever we have a big outing, they always make reservations for this place because it has a large selection of variety on the menu and is big enough to accommodate large groups. Not to mention - every time we come here, the place is packed with locals. Regardless of my opinion, I have to give props to Chimney Rock for establishing itself as a classic. I'm traveling from the Hudson County area, so I am coming with a bias - sorry to all my friends and family in the 'burbs! The pizza is solid here, but nothing compares to the true NY style stuff I'm used. Their appetizers are fine (although the last time we were here, the garlic knots were extraordinarily tough), and the food is fine too. It's a lot of fried things that you really can't go wrong with. There are also some pastas, some mains, and a fair amount of salads if you are in a heathy mood. (But if you're coming here, go for the fried stuff!) To me personally, the decor seems a little outdated. I understand it's supposed to look like a log cabin, but I personally believe some of the older areas (like the bar area, for example) can use a little TLC. This doesn't seem to deter customers, though. Like I said, this place is always packed! I would go here if you want some standard bar fare and a beer! read more

They messed up and made my gluten free steak over sweet potatoes with gluten and call after I get home luckily I had not started eating it yet, what they remade and gave me looks like low grade dog food as they must've been in a hurry to remake it so the 5 small slices of steak are bunt to a crisp and the sweet potato is black in some parts ( I hope there is a way to attach a picture to this review)and to say sorry for their mess up they give me a piece of chocolate lava cake that again is full of gluten. Chimney Rock Inn used to be great for gluten free dining but both the care and quality of food has significantly gone down hill recently, if you're looking for good gluten free food or just food in general drive a little further to Main Street Somerville and go to Alfonso's Trattoria. We ordered an old fashioned and glass of cab. Fine, average pours. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza. And waiter and waited and waited. We asked for water...finally, the pizza arrives. It isn't really cooked fully in the middle but the edges are kind of burned. We kept talking-I was in from out of town and we haven't seen each other in years. The servers rarely checked on us, never refilled the water and while they bought a take out box for the pizza, we had to ask twice for the bill and then ask to have them take the card to pay for it. My wife and I have eaten here on several occasions. We were dining out with one of my wife's best friends and her son who is also my wife's Godson. Last night, my wife had the Mango salad which she said was awesome. I really wanted to like this place, but the experience fell massively short of expectations from the moment we walked in. No one at the host stand made eye contact or greeted us, and the first table they tried to seat us at was already taken. As a former host and server myself, I found it odd that the solution from the host was to walk us all the way back to the entrance and have us wait again rather than simply finding the next available table nearby. Part of the job is thinking on the fly so as not to inconvenience your customers. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve from there. Our server never introduced herself and definitely didn't seem to care about us or her job. She instructed us to place our menus at the front of the table when we were ready to order, which felt like an odd workaround to actually being attentive and checking on your tables. The drinks were the biggest red flag. The ice was visibly dirty, and we both noticed particles floating on top of our two completely different drinks. We didn't feel comfortable ordering replacement drinks or much food now that it was clear the kind of place this was. What we did try in the way of food tasted like pre-made, frozen, and reheated dishes rather than anything even remotely fresh. Just updating my 13 year old review. Their main draw is still the thin crust pizza. It's thinner than regular "thin crust" like you'd get at Dominos, Papa Johns, or a regular pizzeria. The slices are also cut narrow, so much so that it only takes me about 3 bites to eat a whole slice. If you're not in the mood for pizza, they have salads, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and pasta. The wait staff has always been very friendly, whether it's for dine-in service, grabbing a few pies to-go, or purchasing gift cards. If you go during typical dining hours (i.e., lunch and dinner), it will most likely be busy, and a bit on the noisy side but not so noisy that you need to yell to have a conversation. I've been coming to this place for years. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the service has always been excellent. Last night I went with seven other family members to celebrate a graduation. We had food and drinks, all of which were very good. However, our server was very cold, very rude and honestly needs some serving 101 classes. For starters, four out of our eight party members arrived and asked for eight waters for the table. She said "well I'll bring you four because it's pointless for me to bring waters if people aren't going to drink them." Like woah, excuse me? This is a restaurant. It's super customary to just serve water. And now the server is really just making more work for herself. Also if they don't drink the waters, so what? Okay that means they will order other drinks which are actual $$$ and will contribute to her tip. Really foolish thinking on her part. These types of interactions occurred all night. She was very aggressive and rude in her communication. It was so awkward and we were nothing but kind and patient with her. Im also someone that tips well, so it pained me to leave less than 20% but I truly had no choice. We would have left a massive tip with a party of 8 - so I have no idea what her issue was.
