Stopped by for lunch yesterday. Had a philly cheesesteak with loaded wedges and an IPA. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I thought my beer (the #6, forgetting the actual name) was good, the wedges were tasty if a little underseasoned (needed more bacon and more cheese to make these really feel like they were "loaded") and the cheesesteak was good, albeit too top-heavy on the cheese, as opposed to cheese that was layered on the steak while it was cooking. It almost felt like the sandwich was packed with steak then baked with a cheese layer on top. The space outside was great, which was helpful because there really is no inside space. A great little spot right by Chimney Rock. They have a few local beers and ciders & a variety of food options. I enjoyed a Philly cheesesteaks, pretzel and quesadilla. You order at the bar and pick up at a little window outside. The folks work g there were friendly and th ere is only outdoor seating which is limited and in 3 levels, but it's perfect to get a view of the river and to get your feet in the water off you'd like. Chimney Rock is one of my favorite areas in NC, the scenery is absolutely beautiful, and Chimney Rock Brewing is one of the best spots to stop and eat, and drink a delicious beer while visiting. I'm definitely a beer guy, and I enjoyed all the beers I had here. I tried the Moroccan flatbread which was a "today's" special, and wow was it delicious! Definitely should be added to the full time menu! The back deck overlooks the river, and the scenery is amazing and relaxing. I stopped by Hickory Nut Gorge Brewing yesterday while in the area. It's a small brewery in Chimney Rock that is nestled amongst other store fronts on the main road. I practically drove past it missing the sign out front. Due to the Covid issue, you order the beer from the window in front but, you can take your order and sit inside or on the deck over looking which over looks the Broad River. I just found it slightly weird doing that. Anyway, I had a pint of the Eagle Rock Pale Ale and pint of the Scuba Juice IPA. Both were very good. The pale ale had a subtle hoppy ness to it and finished dry on the tongue. The Scuba Juice was a hazy style IPA that had strong citrus notes. It was very refreshing. Overall the two beers I had here were very good. The view sitting outside is quite nice. You can take your beer down to the riverside and hangout there or stay on the deck. The rolling sounds of the running water adds to the relaxing atmosphere here. They do sell cans and growlers to go I believe. Definitely check the place out if your traveling through the Chimney Rock / Bat Cave area. read more

I love visiting this little brewery and stop every time I hike Chimney Rock. The atmosphere is really nice. My only issue is the food. I ordered the chips and cheese dip... and, well it was nachos. It was just tortilla chips, with nacho-style cheese and jalapeños. It wasn't a dip, per se since the cheese already came on top of the nachos. Also, one you eat the top layer, you just end up with chips... But, forget all that, go here for the beer! Pretty good stuff. read more

First time here was Oct 2022 with 2 friends. Beautiful local brewery right on the river. Great craft been and really good food. I got the coffee stout and my 2 friends both got the wheat beer. After a few days in Asheville, we traveled down to Brevard for the rest of our stay. We took the scenic route and toured Chimney Rock State Park. But before climbing to the top of Chimney Rock we stopped for a light lunch at Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery. Right outside the entrance to the park, sits a number of small shops and restaurants. The brewery is right there off of the main road through town. Orders are placed at a window (though that might just be a COVID protocol). From there you grab a seat at any of a number of tables that overlook the Broad River. Food was quickly delivered to our table. My wife and I split the pulled pork nachos topped with slow-smoked pork, bacon, beer cheese, sour cream, spring onions, and your choice of BBQ sauce ($12). These were delicious! The pork was well-flavored and combined well with the beer cheese and sauce. Our kids enjoyed the cheddar and mozzarella cheese quesadilla ($8) and the Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese ($7). The beer was pretty good, the only IPA's available during our visit were the English IPA and the Hazy IPA. I went with the English, and while not my preferred style, it was a good beer, malty and a bit of hops. But the view that I had while I enjoyed this beer was top-notch! The kids also enjoyed getting their feet wet in the river before and after their meals. So much that my wife and I were able to enjoy a second round of beers! read more

We have been coming here for sometime. With the resent new owners taking over the place has gone from a place for a beer and a view to a place for a beer, food and a view.The previous owners had food, but it was just bar food. Don't get me wrong this is not fine dining but the new food compliments the beer they serve. It's really nice to have a option to go to a brewery at 11am on a Monday for a cold one and food. We stopped by this cute little local brewery on the way to Ashville. The ambiance was 5 stars for me. So relaxing and very laid back. This is a place I would love to spend my next vacation. Its located across the mountain and the sound of the river is so relaxing. Food was great too! We ordered the beer, pretzels and wings. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because there was a part that did not look safe which was the foundation of the building where there was a swing and I wish they could fix it. read more

HNGB has another meaning per the sign. It's Hiked Need Good Beer so we hiked at Chimney Rock then checked this brewery out. There is only outdoor seating currently but that is the only place that you will want to sit because it's right beside the river and the view is beautiful. I tried the World's Edge IPA and Devil's Head Red Ale and my husband tried the Flowering Bridge Saison. They serve food so we split chips with beer cheese and salsa to snack on. Made a stop at HNGB after spending time in Chimney Rock State Park. Great location right in the village of Chimney Rock. Right on the Broad River, so you can watch people playing on the rocks or fishing in the river. The brewery has a small sandy area where people could dip their feet or your pup their paws. While we just stopped in for a pint, the food coming out looked great. The BBQ nachos were my favorite. The beer was solid, Swayze Hazy IPA comes in at 7.6%. Slight haze with some tropical notes. Nice after hike beer for me. Overall, great location and views... Solid beer, and drool worthy food. read more

The town is a tourist trap, but this place is a highlight. The food portions are incredible (or should I say irresponsible?). We had the fish & chips and nachos. Both were good, typical pub fare, nothing that would have us coming back. Beer was good too. Service was lacking, but I'm guessing they are understaffed (isn't everyone?). We found a nice spot to sit right at the river. Definitely a bonus to have direct access, cool your feet on a hot summer day. read more

Great little brewery on the river! Located across the street from Burnt Shirt Vineyards. Awesomely unique flavors and a huge variety of brews considering its small size. I always try to order a flight and they had a 4 flight option for about $9, all delicious! It was winter so they had a crockpot of hot, hard cider which I loved, a brown ale, an English ale, and a tart wild ale, sour which I was told had yeast from the trees outside! I love the vibe here, there's a gorgeous view of the river where you can watch kayakers go by. Log cabin style wooden walls, custom live edge wood tables and stools. Perfect location. Really great beers and ciders. In the time of COVID, and after a hike up and down Chimney Rock, exactly what we needed to cool down and relax. Sits right on the river with designated access. Plenty of tiered patio and "beach" seating. Service is only though two walk up windows. A bit of a challenge if you've never been there before and don't know exactly what you want. I wanted the ice cold beer more than the service. Chose a cider for me and a beer for my guy. Lounged on the patio. Not really socially distanced tables and lots of people but it wasn't too crowded and we were outdoors. Everyone hanging out were pretty friendly. The "hot" cider definite had some heat and was full of flavor. Ultimately cut it with another glass of "regular" cider. Would definitely go back for the drink and the view. Hickory Nut Gorge is basically at the bottom of Chimney Rock. Sadly for us, Chimney Rock was closed for maintenance while we were in town. We did end up doing a morning hike at Wildcat Rock and then driving in to enjoy a post hike well earned beer. There are so many reasons that Hickory Nut Gorge is getting 5 stars from me. First off, they are taking COVID seriously and I love them for it. They require masks, even when ordering while standing outside and placing the order to the one employee inside and they are actually adhering to their own rule. I support this! Their indoor seating is not open, they instead have 4 incredible decks out back along the river that provide plenty of space to not only be socially distanced at, but to enjoy the beauty of the river. You get to appreciate the natural surroundings while enjoying your home brew. You can even get in the river from the bottom deck. I can not rave enough about the gorgeous scenery that Hickory Nut Gorge has! It is almost breathtaking. It helped us stay much longer than we planned. It gave me plenty of time to try many of their beers. The two I was partial to were the Highland Rising Haze IPA and the Tropical Tantrum IPA. They were the perfect beers to enjoy next a flowing river after a vigorous hike. In fact I would go as far to say that Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery is the perfect brewery if you are a fan of nature, good service, and good beer. Seek them out, they are worth the stop. read more
